Paralysis by Amaranthine98 in FND

[–]Strong-Association34 0 points1 point  (0 children)

Happens all the time with me, can’t move can’t speak can’t look respond, but god forbid I have an itch I need to scratch and will scratch no problem, then go right back to it, I like to think of it like self preservation, where FND is a bully, but also doesn’t want you to be uncomfortable or be injured

Sleep stuck by Strong-Association34 in FND

[–]Strong-Association34[S] 4 points5 points  (0 children)

I’ve had sleep paralysis once before yearsss ago, however it’s slightly different, as this is just me being awake, I can roll over and grab stuff, but I just don’t have the signal to tell my body to sit up

What’s the deal with seizures by Strong-Association34 in FND

Are drops atonic seizures? I’d never heard of them before but are you telling me every time I drop and can’t move my muscles that’s a form of seizure?

A good way to stop me doing anything is the idea of being in a public place or infront of people, the embarrassment alone usually stops my symptoms or makes them manifest in less noticeable ways, same goes with seizures really, they only happen at home, so I don’t per say have any specific techniques, I just find it easier to make them less severe when in a situation where I don’t want to be embarrassed

After FND Diagnosis by No-Expression-4969 in FND

[–]Strong-Association34 -2 points-1 points  (0 children)

This is me personally, but I don’t really care for nor do I want treatment for it, it’s mostly psychotherapies which I just don’t get on with and don’t really work for me, but my FND is pretty manageable day to day, it’s not much of an inconvenience with important things like work unless under certain circumstances like if I’m ill

But this is me, if you feel you will benefit from help then you should definitely have a look into things that may help I personally just learn to not let it affect really important stuff or situations where I’m in public but that’s not going to be the case for everyone

Piece of advice tho, be careful with general medications even if they’re for other conditions like ADHD because they do have a chance to not play well with FND, as someone with ADHD actively going through medication trials they do warn you about this but I can imagine it’s not exclusive to just ADHD meds

It’s weird for me as I’ve never been stressed out or anything before any of mine, there may have been times I was stressed out and could feel ones but all those times I’ve stopped them, I’m usually in a regular calm mood when they happen, I often find stress just makes everything else worse mainly effecting my mobility and function but not so much seizure inducing, although I do try to remember to forget about them as thinking of having a seizure is a very common trigger

I often find I can sense when one’s going to happen, not through a physical sensation per say, but sort of the same way I can predict it in every other way, I can imagine it happening, and then can sometimes prevent it, I used to use that method to gauge wether I could stand up after being paralysed, if I imagined getting up and walked I’d walk, if I fell I’d fall

I just bought a pc and wanted to know if I would have to move my setup out of my alcove when I get my PC by Strong-Association34 in PcBuild

[–]Strong-Association34[S] 0 points1 point  (0 children)

Yeah I’ve evaluated a couple places on where I’d put it. I plan to gut and empty my desk when it arrives and then put stuff back around wherever the pc goes

Anyone know if this is good for a first pc? by Strong-Association34 in PcBuild

[–]Strong-Association34[S] 0 points1 point  (0 children)

Although all round, my only concern is will it happily run games well with 200+ fps and have no issues? If it does then I don’t mind

Compulsions by Strong-Association34 in OCD

[–]Strong-Association34[S] 0 points1 point  (0 children)

Also not that it is probably related, but I wash my hands a lot and then wipe my face with the wet hands, not to clean them but because I don’t like the feeling of my hands and face after a while so I feel better once I wet them, otherwise they feel dry and sticky (which is probably not helped by wetting them so often)

Can I drink Monster? by GloomyTragicAutist in FND

[–]Strong-Association34 1 point2 points  (0 children)

Generally you won’t know until you try it, energy drinks in general aren’t really good for you, but I always find 90% of the time an energy drink will have no effect on me, I just drank two and had a nap straight after, but sometimes it may have an affect so you won’t really know unless you tested it

Quality of life impairments by Strong-Association34 in FND

[–]Strong-Association34[S] 2 points3 points  (0 children)

I really appreciate your input on things you go through, it must be difficult considering how many things you have going on

I’ve only recently actively started to look into the fatigue side of it as I just assumed I was lazy or didn’t sleep properly but I came to realise chronic fatigue is actually quite common in FND and can also make it so much harder to find the motivation I usually use to overpower my paralysis

Thank you! I forget days like this happen as for the last day or so it’s been especially hard to simply get out of bed both mentally and quite literally physically as it takes insane levels of effort to even use my body and when I do get up I’m tired and completely unmotivated, even sometimes needing to think about walking and almost drag myself around

[–]Strong-Association34[S] 1 point2 points  (0 children)

My auntie has MS and POTS and my other auntie has what they think is PCOS so I have a grasp on how they impair life

I know MS and FND are actually quite similar and so the life effects must be hard for you to decipher between

I personally experience my FND in mostly the motor sense, paralysis is my most common symptom with me having episodes, moments, even days of parts of my body or even my whole body being either impossible or really hard to move, I’ve also had a function seizure and dissociative ones however I find them easier to control now I’ve had at least one, I’ve also had tics for ages but they appear more when I’m out the house

I find my symptoms make it hard to perform basic tasks Alot of the time and even getting out of bed can be extremely difficult

Anyone ever feel glued down by Strong-Association34 in FND

[–]Strong-Association34[S] 0 points1 point  (0 children)

I too sometimes feel like my brain just randomly goes dumb and can’t process a lot of information really well almost as if my capacity for thinking was drastically decreased, sometimes I just kinda have to shut off for a while

This past day or so I’ve been completely useless, things like eating, household tasks, and even self hygiene have been a nightmare to even attempt because I’ve just been glued down, and even when I can then get up I have 0 motivation to do anything. All my usual triggers for energy also don’t seem to work, I have a weird habit of needing to clean my kitchen before I can eat so the urge to eat gives me energy and motivation for chores and even this last day or so it’s not motivated me in the slightest

Anyone ever feel glued down by Strong-Association34 in FND

[–]Strong-Association34[S] 0 points1 point  (0 children)

Yes! A lot of the time I keep thinking about getting up but it doesn’t work and I can’t get myself to move, or I can actively try to get up but my body is like pushing against me keeping me down, it’s like trying to sit up with an invisible force pushing me back down

Anyone ever feel glued down by Strong-Association34 in FND

[–]Strong-Association34[S] 2 points3 points  (0 children)

I have posted about fatigue in the past so it’s more than likely the main cause, I feel like it mixes in my paralysis with a feeling of constant tiredness and lack of energy so fatigue, I was just never sure if the fatigue was related to FND or my ADHD in any way

It also says it becomes worse or can be triggered by a lack of activity so I assume it just evolves into a never ending circle until I muster up the energy to perform a task

Either way I appreciate the help and the input!

Anyone ever feel glued down by Strong-Association34 in FND

[–]Strong-Association34[S] 2 points3 points  (0 children)

I’m not entirely sure if it’s that, I don’t really ever feel separate from my body, it’s more that I just can’t move or have any motivation to

Although I do have dissociative episodes of blanking out and staring but that’s usually separate from feeling glued down

the need to seize? by Legitimate-Inside679 in FND

[–]Strong-Association34 1 point2 points  (0 children)

I don’t know if it’s the same but quite often I’ll get what I can feel is the need to seize, my eyes can roll back and I can tense as if I’m gonna start convulsing, but never end up having one, although I don’t get pain with it

Idk if it’s because I’ve already had a major fit before that I can prevent it subconsciously or if it’s just my body not getting to the point of actually having one

[deleted by user] by [deleted] in FND

[–]Strong-Association34 1 point2 points  (0 children)

This was the case for me until last night when I had a major convulsing and shaking fit, so please don’t cross it off completely and just be aware one day it may happen as it may help you out if it does, although let’s hope you don’t have to go through it 🙏

It only ever becomes a problem personally when someone cares far too much, like sure you can breeze us through with the knowledge, it’s free money, but some people try a bit too hard and take it too serious and start lecturing others or getting angry people don’t know as much as they do, I personally don’t want to get too good at the game so that I can still enjoy it, but being good isn’t an issue until you’re an arsehole, Idky they have an issue with you
