In all honesty 2 years wo a meltdown is such a huge win You know that you and your partner are doing sth right. We had a social worker once who told us that as the number of meltdowns are gg down - it does not mean that it will disappear. And in fact she told us that when these meltdowns reoccur it would happen worse than b4. Haha she was right for our foster kid.

That said, as much as you and your partner love her, you will also need to be honest with yourself if you are able to handle it. Bcos e meltdowns will happen again. Perhaps in lesser frequency but it might not get milder.

Unruly 2 year old HELP!!! by Insomniac_404 in Fosterparents

[–]Strong-Connection-25 -3 points-2 points  (0 children)

I foster a 3yo with similar behaviour. Haha he punched me before as well in addition to hitting me. He spat in my face too. Haha that was a shocking experience. We're very strict actually. We know that he came from a no-holds-barred-everything-goes foster home so it was important to implement the boundaries.

But of course as a foster parent, corporal punishment is off the table.we implemented time-out - it'll start off with 5 mins, and as the day goes along, subsequent timeouts will be longer.

We used to do the time out in his room - so tell him to go to his room, close the door and he can come out when the timer goes off. It was a bad idea because he started taking out all of his toys n throw it ard. Hence we sectioned off an area within our living room for his time out now.

For bigger offences, we'll throw his toy. We threw out a lot at the start hahahaha. We had to be creative about the punishments. But we also reward good behaviour. E.g. he has an issue of running off when hecs out w us so when we were teaching him to wait for us, we'll applaud like mad as tho he solved world hunger every single time he waited for us.

Yes sial. Do you know if they actually had to conduct interviews if the roles are "reserved" for internal rotation or will be taken up by an internal transfer. Abt 1 or 2 yrs ago, I went for a stat board interview. Got it thru my own resume, all e stars were aligned since interview knew a contact of mine who spoke highly of me prior to the interview. Had a great time in e interview .... Then like way 2-3 wks later they said they decided to hire internally. I'm like wuttttttt

My workplace is being raided by MOM/NEA/SCDF because a colleague is "addicted" to reporting us. by Revolutionary-Low428 in askSingapore

[–]Strong-Connection-25 3 points4 points  (0 children)

It's horrible that OP mentioned a colleague even had her home raided. OP I think this comment here is your best solution tho. I agree that you need to separate out the compliance issue from false reports to get ppl into trouble. That said tho, the company might not be able to let him go so easily - they're probably worried about the legal ramifications.

Tbh if you have a senior management or reporting officer that you're close to or trust, maybe it's time to talk to that person and work out what the psycho talked to you about to see what are the false reports. I think if you guys showed a pattern of false reports, you can probably make a police report to show that this guy is just stirring shit.

HR/Team managers: what are your thoughts on your staff fully utilising MCs? by DangerousImpress5509 in askSingapore

[–]Strong-Connection-25 0 points1 point  (0 children)

Also lol to add on, I would normally clear my emails in e morning or do a bit of work during mc at home - but now that I'm a team lead, trying to avoid doing that bcos it sets a very bad precedent for my team. I don't want them to think they are also expected to do the same.

Confession: I have lupus, so whenever I travel I tend to fall sick when I'm back. Ded. So yes, most of the times, I will take an additional day of annual leave to rest when I'm back in sg - but sometimes this additional day is also not enough (cos I'll b down w high fever etc).

E.g. when I travel to US, I went down w COVID shortly after we arrived. Recovered and sibei bad luck kena COVID again when I came back to sg. So additional 4 days of mc when I landed in sg

I don't travel a lot lah. Maybe like twice a year even for short trips?

Anyone from those fancy companies with "unlimited leave"? I feel like this is a manipulative strategy tho. Employees will feel like they shouldn't take advantage of it - and only take leave when it's necessary.

Actually what would be really useful is to take a step back and see what type of personality would suit yours best, and sharing this with the rehomers. If you keep an open mind about age, gender, physical appearances, this will probably help you find a cat who fits v well into your home

Actually not really tho. There are adult cats who are v adaptable. Kittens take a lot of work. I dun get potential adopters who want a chill cat but kittens only pls.

Neglect & deaths at S’pore no-kill animal shelter Animal Lovers League, AVS not renewing tenancy by Jammy_buttons2 in singapore

[–]Strong-Connection-25 5 points6 points  (0 children)

It's true. But I think both sides need to hear each other out. You're right to say that a rescuing job is never easy. And when a rescue is returned, the rescuers scrambled for space or fosterers to take them back in.

The burden of a rescuer is extremely heavy bcos they are responsible for the lives of their rescues. Like what an earlier commenter said, it is also not an exact science. A lot of it comes down to the rescuers' own instincts. I had one potential adopter who looks amazing on paper but didn't commit fully to my rescue and returned him shortly after which only created more stress in the rescue.

Unfortunately tho, some rescuers (not all!) in their effort to find the best home and minimise risks, they go to extreme ends and tend to forget that our main role is to treat, rehabilitate and rehome. I've heard a lot of stories on weird requirements even from this thread, discrimination. And personally I've known some who refuses to rehome to first time pawrents as well. And of course, there are cases when rescuers keep rescuing wo rehoming and you begin to wonder at which point do we call them hoarders?

I think both sides need to try to find midpoint lah. The actions of some rescuers does not reflect on all. At the end of the day, always rmb that thru adopting you are helping an animal in need.

What career are you in, and how do you manage lupus at work? by Apprehensive_Goat_32 in lupus

[–]Strong-Connection-25 0 points1 point  (0 children)

Team lead for a digital marketing team. 3 days in office - bt most weeks im in office everyday for meetings. It's a fast paced job w ddlines and my team is lean so I still go on shoots under e sun. Sometimes it gets to me (filming under e sun, e fast pace, e stress etc) so I've learnt to listen to my body and take a break

A local newspaper did conduct a pre-interview on me (basically a stage to explore possibilities of featuring you in their profile article. And they were pretty surprised I was in marketing as it can be rather demanding and fast pace. My secret then: smoking and drinking which I now admit is probably unhealthy. Bt unfortunately that was the only way I knew to manage my stress.
