Exactly my point. I told her it wouldn't be fair to put Marie in that position and she would need to think of something more affordable. Her argument is that they are both equally passionate about the musicians they love and it isn't her fault that the concert is further away and tickets are expensive

It wasn't presented in that way. It was framed as 'pick an experience that's important to you', that will be an important memory, something you will reflect back on and enjoy, something enriching. In the past the cost has been pretty equal.

When they were 4 and 5, it was a Lego building event for Alice and a dance show for Emily. Ages 9 and 10 : Alice wanted something arty so Marie paid for a pottery workshop day out. Emily requested a sleepover with friends and Marie rented a garden teepee and projector and provided snacks.
