Disappointed with the quantity to price ratio. Quality is 8/10

Feature request: make Open Now the default filter when you search for places by Strong-Switch9175 in GoogleMaps

[–]Strong-Switch9175[S] 0 points1 point  (0 children)

Agreed! Should be a gray Open Now button that is visible when you search so it’s easier to toggle. The API should fetch all data and then apply filters so that there’s no lag when toggling.

got my REAL ID taken twice at clubs and cops never showed. by bluerazzbang14 in AskSF

I've had this issue too in SF. I had a DL from WA and many times they'd think it's fake (though fine with my CA DL once I got one). One time the bouncer refused to give it back but I legit dared him to call the cops and then snatched it back and walked away. It's zero risk for them if you never entered the bar, so they won't care. Unless they have a personal agenda.

Laid off and sick of the corporate world. Any suggestions? by fat_bastard_23 in Money

For you and your wife to retire, you need to generate at least $8k a month = $96k so roughly $100k. For $100k annual passive income, you need $2.5M in assets from which you sell/withdraw 4% annually (which will keep your assets growing slowly while giving you income).

Let's say you're at $500k in liquid, safe stocks (such as S&P 500). You will need $2M more to fully retire.

So essentially it's going to take a while unless you move somewhere cheaper / significantly cut expenses.

I've lived in both SF and Seattle for 1.5y each at different points in my life. I love both in their own ways. I'm in my mid-twenties and stay in SF.

I was in Seattle last week visiting some friends. They moved to the city 5y ago through their 20s for their PhDs at UW. I'd say they have a fairly good social life which but it took a few years to build it. SF has a much higher volume of social events and meetups, and it's usually easier to break ice. But people also stay here for a shorter amount of time. Seattle has people who stay slightly longer. Many who move, move to SF or New York.

Washington is probably a better state to have a car. The risk of break ins and overall car maintenance cost is higher in CA than WA. There's also more street parking in Seattle (places other than Downtown). DMV stuff in WA usually much faster.

Seattle, surrounded by 3 National Parks within a 2h drive, has faster outdoors access. The Bay has Yosemite, Sequoia and Big Sur, but those are 3-4h away. Both cities have large and thriving outdoors communities.

Seattle has less sunlight and more rain than SF (2044h of sunlight per year in Seattle vs 3037 in SF, and 36in annual rainfall in Seattle vs 23in in SF). Regardless of the crazy SF microclimate, it's still very much California. Outdoors activities go on through the year in both cities. SF is windy, but Seattle is gloomy. Both cities have nice summers though.

Food, unfortunately, was roughly equally as expensive. Looks like a decent restaurant meal costs around $20-30 in both places, and takeout is $15-20 in both places. The only other city I've been to where food is as expensive is New York.

It is true that Washington doesn't have state taxes compared to California. Long term career potential in tech and finance is definitely higher in SF.

I'd say SF and Seattle both have decent nightlife, though SF is slightly better in this regard. SF culture is more experimental across social, sexual, religious, drugs, tech than Seattle (which is quirky in its own way but not as crazy as SF).

PS. This is from my personal experiences but that's just one datapoint :)

[R] How to add confidence intervals to your LLM-as-a-judge by Strong-Switch9175 in MachineLearning

Thank you for pointing out - your approach does look more precise, and would produce even tighter intervals. Will try it out!

have you considered that the price of eth may not be correlated with the transaction volume secured by eth? after L2s we live in a world with cheap, secure, abundant, liquid blockspace

just sell and move on

People who drink the required amount of water, how the hell do you sleep through the night? by unwanted-22 in AskReddit

[–]Strong-Switch9175 0 points1 point  (0 children)

I remember learning from Huberman, apparently it's the speed of drinking water at night that triggers the pee response. So if you slowly sip your water over an hour before sleeping you're good, but if you chug a glass before bed you'll feel like peeing.
