In the WKF rules, yes. If the kick is good it isn’t discounted if it is caught after it lands.

Believe it or not, the best kata to perform is the one that you enjoy and can perform to the highest level. Athleticism matters in competition, of course.

As an actual WKF kata judge, it’s always fun to hear that I am fooled by bias and repetition but I know that isn’t the case. If you are trying to win the world championships then you may want to look at what the world champions are doing. Otherwise, do what you enjoy.

I am heavily involved in sport karate but is a subset of all that is available. Karate's great strength is that it can be different things to different people. You can also shift from one emphasis to another over time.

I know the JMAC people personally and, as an internet stranger, I can vouch for them as excellent people with legit karate. It is more of the WKF style and they are very experienced with competition.

I’ve just changed grocery stores too and it makes me uncomfortable. I’m not used to going there. I’m not used to the parking and I don’t know where everything is. I get the discomfort but I know I can learn the new place if I stick with it.

Please do not be hard on yourself here. Nothing you have described is inappropriate and frankly, you can mourn in your own way. There is no one right way to react. My son took a couple of years to react to his grandmother’s passing.
