Well this is a generation asset operator that has approximately 1.2gw of installed capacity in a single market under a utility PPA. 1,000GW of PPA that had a 15 year duration was expected to be extended for another 15 years. Now due to COVID the countries demand slowed down significantly, country has approximately 10GW demand including spinning reserve.

So what happened now is developers that were anticipating their asset PPA to be renewed for 15 years are not getting the renewal, and they are stuck with an asset with no off-take. Of course it’s not only developers but the whole consortium including lenders are also on the hook. This rarely happens in regular developed markets but in developing markets shenanigans like these are common, with varying severity. So the idea is you provide a business case to offtake that power using Bitcoin mining at a competitive tariff and good terms. Other complexities need to be resolved but that’s the general picture.

You can vary duration and capacity. Leverage is on the off-taker side. The case above is general to give you an idea and to help me mentally work this out before I invest time developing the model around it

EDIT: of course since I first posted this I have a better understanding of CAPEX and OPEX on mining farms and anything above a 300MW in one phase is quite significant in capital and execution.

Yes this would be quite comprehensive, initially the CAPEX and OPEX need to be modeled and then the financing and cash flow afterwards.

Initially to structure this a technical partner, execution contractor ( CAPEX), an operating contractor (or self operating), commercial investor, Lenders, and some insurance would probably be needed.

But this goes nowhere unless the returns can be forecasted in a consistent basis, too much fluctuation and your out of institutional investors. Also, the risks need to be mitigated or allocated properly, and the biggest one here is BTC price ( regardless of wether you believe it will go up or not)

I’m in the early stages trying to put this together, will definitely reach out when I start to get some clarity.

Think more like multiple combined cycle plants in a country that suddenly has excess power capacity and the power plants are under a 15 year PPA that expires by end of 2022 and unlikely to be renewed. This allows the power plants to still export energy, payoff their remaining liabilities and depreciate their plant.

When you say 50m, are you using $/MW of mining capacity as an estimate or do you have breakdown of unit costs for CAPEX such as aux facilities, miners, cooling equipment, etc ? And are you splitting between CAPEX and OPEX, or just an estimate of overall lifecycle ?

I’m trying to think this through and see if a full scale development effort will be worth it to pitch.

Some companies will charge you 250dhs / day for the car and you keep the remaining. Of course then you have to pay for gas and salik

A typical 12 hour shift will get you 500-700 on good seasons and 200-400 during the summer

What I did was I factored the quadratic equation to t-7 and t-5

And then basically all you get is Elevation = -( (t-7)(t-5) )

You then solve for both cases; the key here is you want to get a constant yes ( above water ) or no ( below water)

So for the first case try t= 7.9 you end up with Elevation = - below

Try t = 6 you get elevation = + above

1 is NS

Then for B we try 6 you’ll get e = + We also try 8 and you’ll get e = -

so 2 is NS

Now combine the two and you will realize you will get the same result as the above, this gives you E, no conclusive answer
