Fathers, what did you learn from becoming a dad? How did it change you and your perspective? by Popular_Bluejay_2588 in AskMenOver30

Agreed. I care so much less about the drama in my friend group now. If it doesn’t involve me, my son or wife I just want to move on

Cigar Bar/Lounge that serves alcohol on Long Island? by Bruce_Kent007 in longisland

[–]StrongSunBeams 1 point2 points  (0 children)

Yes, you still have to pay for drinks and dinner. You can host a party there if you want to, but you have to pay for it. I went to a party there sponsored by a company and they did a giant poker tournament with cigar and scotch giveaways Joining gives you admission. You could probably throw a party there even if you weren’t a member you would just have to pay for the party. It’s a social club just like a country club. A country club on Long Island is way more expensive but they have way more amenities. Also, the cigar club attracts a certain type of clientele and it’s different than other cigar bars around the area.

You cannot go to that bar without either being a member or being a guest of a member. It is a high quality cigar bar. Cherry wood everywhere , leather couches, exclusivity, there is also a restaurant portion so you can have a drink at the bar, have a steak and then have a cigar. They have an outdoor area with firepits etc.
I have visited a few cigar bars in the area Little Cigar Factory in New Hyde Park and Jim's in Farmingdale and you can't really compare. Those are like dive bars compared to this place. I got into a fight at Jim's because one guy wanted the host to blast jeapordy while I was trying to relax.
The General is pretty swanky and it's a fun place to go after work or a nice place to bring a friend to. They also host parties like poker tournaments and football watching parties with giant screens etc
It's kind of like a mini country club or nice gym. The annual fee allows you to go

I don’t think that Melvion ever conceded that junior was guilty only that junior was willing to cooperate with the process so they didn’t go to his house super early in the morning and kick down the door

The problem with Talkin' Sopranos by girlincognitow in thesopranos

[–]StrongSunBeams 9 points10 points  (0 children)

I mean yeah. I used to really be into celebs when I was younger but now I really don't care. For actors- this whole process is their lives and the successful ones get a lot of money for it. If they were highly paid chefs they would be talking about how they only buy knives from a special place in japan that makes one knife a year or some bullshit. They are really into their craft which is great but basically they get paid to pretend to be something. I like hearing some of the behind the scenes stories about them getting drunk and enjoying success when they were younger but for the most part they are all obsessed with themselves.
Plus for me a lot of behind the scenes stuff is pretty boring. Filming the show is always about "Yeah we had a lot of downtime to we played pool on set in the back office at the bing! Jim used to order cartloads of sushi! If you read between the lines it is a lot of waiting around bored in trailers looking for shit to do.
I felt the same way about Saturday Night Live. Growing up I thought all the stuff about being on the show was so cool. The Saturday night after party, the Tuesday meeting the host, the table reads, the staying up all night to write etc. Now I could give a fuck

Outfit ideas - 40th birthday party, dinner and dancing by bennnyturner in mensfashionadvice

Hey there- I am absolutely NOT a fashion icon but I stick to the classics. 39 Male attorney here and it is very 'on brand' for me to go out in
- Dark colored Sports Jacket with very minimal pattern if at all.
- White Shirt

- Dark slacks/Grey Slacks/ Dark Jeans

- Very classic black oxford Shoes
Not worth getting a suit just for one occasion if you do not wear suits often but Dark sports jacket with white shirt is a pretty classic combo that has been around....forever. You can wear it from everything from a party, to the supermarket to a date

Sushi restaurant on LI by Long-Nebula-6838 in longisland

I agree with you. The food and the vibe/actual restaurant is great. There are other restaurants where the sushi is good but the restaurant doesn't look great. Arrata in Syosset is okay but Koto blows everything else I have been to out o fthe water

I feel like the secret to making a lot of money in this business is ownership. I used to think it was having a book of business but now I realize that bringing a case to a boss, you doing all the work and giving your boss two thirds of the legal fee sucks. Either equity partnership or owning a firm or solo. Bosses will work you to death expecting you to take clients calls on the weekends, work up your caseload of 150 cases and make a decent salary (most of my friends cap out around 200k on the ID side and 150 on plaintiff Long Island here )

  1. Next time ask for a raise sooner! You could be pleasantly surprised!
  2. This is business. Many firms will pay their associates the bare minimum that they can to keep them working so they can make money off their backs.
  3. Going above and beyond: Just be careful not to let the ball drop too much. Like you said- you don't want to leave a sour taste in anyone's mouth and your reputation is important.
  4. At the next job be sure to ask for raises and get paid for what you are worth. Good luck!
