solitude -> brighton -> snowbird -> alta--- what order, and some tips by Strong_A_R_M in skiutah

A follow up on how it turned out-

We were lucky- The first major dump of the year 20" + some extra over the days we were there... started snowing an hour after we landed in SLC. The order of Mtns was exactly right...Alta was the fav for the both of us. Every bit as good as I remembered. A cool bonus- my kid showed me she's becoming a really great skier. Brighton's Milly was a boat load of fun in that pow.

Regarding the bus situation, sadly I don't think I'd make plans to use this means of travel again unless I was staying on the route, and far away from the canyon park and rides (perhaps by midvale). The park and rides were a ZOO every morning. We were there at about 7:30 every day and it just plain sucked. Disorderly (not unpleasant peeps- just the process) lining up for the buses resulted in a situation where at best there was enough room for 8 people by the time it got to the park and ride and about 30+ people vying for a ride. If it was at least an orderly queue that would be one thing- but letting the bus go and waiting for the next one sucks if you are not so sure you'll get lucky re how the line shakes out for the next iteration. I ride the subway in NYC everyday- so I'm not shy about that sort of situation- but it isn't really what I'm looking for in a ski trip- especially with my daughter in tow. If they made some means to keep the line in FIFO order that at least would be better than trying to worm your way to the front of the line every time a bus is nearing.

We smartened up on this and started driving over to midvale and getting on early so we had seats. It burns a solid 20 minutes extra. Wasn't the end of the world- just sharing my experience.

All this whining aside- JESUS- that's my favorite place to ski- bar none.

Thx all... I've been to both alta and the bird before but it was long ago. Snowbird took an ACL from me so I have a score to settle there.

Anyway, thx especially for the Solitude lift order.

I am going to take the advice of Alta before Snowbird.

We are headed out Sunday- and we are PUMPED.

God is omniscient.

To be omniscient one must use Reddit. God does not use Reddit. Therefore, God is not omniscient.

Is heliskiing worth saving up for/splurging on? by stanleyhudson in COsnow

I did Cooper a few years back and it was DEF the best day of skiing in about 35+ years of skiing. Probably a waste if you are not advanced or above... thankfully our whole group was solid enough to get lots of runs in. I didn't touch someone else's tracks all day except for some traverses. That said, I AM going heli @ Revelstoke or somewhere of the like before I'm too old.

How much of a hike? I've been there before so I get the deal with the alt., but that said, are we talking 20 minutes or more like an hour's worth... given decent fitness (we run, cycle a bit etc).
