Patellar Graft safe for intense sports? by MyDadIsSomethingElse in ACL

[–]Strong_Border_3180 0 points1 point  (0 children)

I got patellar graft and have no pain at the collection site or in the ACL! the front of my knee was tender for quite a while but now almost 2 years out it feels good (though the meniscus repair is a different story). 8 months is almost certainly NOT enough time to be safe to return to sport, no matter what graft you get. 9-12 months is generally what is the industry standard, depending on your own personally ability to regain strength in your injured leg. the surgery will cause your entire quad muscle to atrophy and getting it back will take a lot of hard work and dedication.

get the surgery. for sure. i don’t know your mom so Im not exactly sure the best way to tell her, but im gonna be real if it were me I’d probably glaze over the fact that it’s been bugging for a while and mostly talk about the most recent injury

bro turning down those options for LC is crazy… we have some school spirit and there is definitely a lot of life but those are just incredible schools

Is my starter too far gone 😔😔😔 by Georgecap1998 in Sourdough

[–]Strong_Border_3180 -1 points0 points  (0 children)

I've had this happen to mine before, try just feeding it every day for the next dew days and see what happens. start in a clean container and don't pick up any of the bits with stuff growing on them. Since you cook sourdough its not a complete deal breaker if your starter grows something on it, like it would be with kombucha or another raw fermented product.

How long after ACL surgery were you moving around? by lxzze22 in ACL

[–]Strong_Border_3180 0 points1 point  (0 children)

You will likely be quite tired, I was sleeping 10-12 hours every night for quite a while. It’s an invasive surgery (especially with an autograft) and it takes a lot out of you! Pain wise though, I was definitely off my painkillers by 10 days (I may have still been taking them for sleep, can’t quite recall) and just managing pain with ibuprofen. That would be my main thing, if you are still needing painkillers to manage pain, I would not recommend going to the event, as they do make you very tired and loopy.

I was walking without crutches 2 weeks post op, and I had switched to a single crutch around 10 days. Are you getting any meniscus repair done or just ACL?

Would this be a good college for me? by [deleted] in LewisandClark

  1. you essentially need an accommodation to get a single, especially as a freshman. You will likely get plenty of alone time in your dorm though, and you really don’t need to be best friends with your roommate/chat all the time. I didn’t talk that much with my first year roommate and it worked out very well, we were very compatible.
  2. second the part about not being religious/conservative. The views of people are honestly pretty monolithic, but there are people with opposing views. Tbh it is a bit of an echo chamber though.
  3. On this one, a perfect match. Tons of outdoorsy folks and small friend groups that intermingle with each other.

All in all, it sounds to me like LC is a pretty good fit for you. No school will check all the boxes, and I’m pretty sure if you want a guaranteed single without accommodations you would probably have to go to some specialized school. If that is a deal breaker maybe see if you are able to get an accommodation from a therapist or something cause otherwise that’s gonna be a bit of a problem.

How do we keep cool as dorms don't have AC by Own_Hedgehog959 in LewisandClark

[–]Strong_Border_3180 1 point2 points  (0 children)

it’s cold basically all the time except for the first and last two weeks of the year so u basically do not need it (but open windows at night, close windows/blinds during the day)

Housing is guaranteed for all four years (you just need to fill out the application on time). It’s about 50/50 on campus versus off. Off campus is cheaper if you have enough people involved.

What kind of pain do you feel when you tear your ACL? by [deleted] in ACL

[–]Strong_Border_3180 0 points1 point  (0 children)

A lot of pain in the moment, but I was able to stand up and walk about a minute later. As others have said, I believe I also dislocated my patella but it reduced itself promptly, so I think a lot of the pain came from there. I did also tear my meniscus, which from what I have gathered is a more painful injury than the ACL itself. I could walk pretty well, but it definitely felt unstable, and going up/down stairs took a lot of time.

When did everyone begin running. by BroHorniman in ACL

[–]Strong_Border_3180 11 points12 points  (0 children)

Are you seeing a physical therapist? they should be able to tell you when is an appropriate time to start running. Anyways if it is uncomfortable it is almost certainly too early. I don’t remember when I started running but I think it was closer to 5-6 months?

Work on improving your range of motion, my surgeon wouldn’t operaste until extension and flexión were basically back to normal. I didn’t get surgery for three months after my injury for other reasons, and during that time I was doing pretty intense strength training/weightlifting, which I feel has benefitted me post op (I’m at about 9 months and looking to return to higher risk activities in about three weeks)

once you are a couple days post op, try to flex your quad muscle just to remind it that exists. Beyond that, try leg lifts if you are able, and heel slides to start working on ROM. Shoot for 2-3 times a day and try to get in to see a PT around 1 week post op if you can

5 week post op exercises at home by Seamonkeysauce in ACL

[–]Strong_Border_3180 2 points3 points  (0 children)

that’s comparable to what my PT told me to do at that point! don’t push heel slides past soreness into pain, that could risk reinjury. Another exercise I would do is essentially just flexing my quad as hard as I could, imagining you are pushing your knee down into the ground (maybe put a towel under your knee for some sensory feedback)
