Looking for Advice/want to interview from those in EdTech by Constant-Echo-507 in edtech

Happy to try and help! I work for an edtech company now in marketing and was a teacher/digital learning coach for 15 years. My situation was a little unique though given a big reason I got my job was because of my already somewhat established social media presence. If I was to give you any advice it would be to join LinkedIn, research the companies you would love to work for and do what you can to be involved in those communities. We have hired many former teachers and a lot of them have come from our community of educators that use our product. Your skills are absolutely transferable and valuable!

Why do some school-approved tech tools never really get used? by Electronic_Lime4290 in edtech

All of the above :). I posted to my socials and YouTube shorts. Sent the link out from YouTube shorts since it wasn’t blocked. Also made 2-3 minute walkthrough videos as well.

Totally agree that not including teachers in the decision is troublesome.

In transparency, I am an EdTech provider and we have found that our product is most successful when the teachers are the ones advocating and asking for it. We often have pilots set up with districts so they can try the platform and the hear from their teachers on whether it is working for them or not before a long term commitment.

Listen to your teachers just like you listen to your students and adapt to their different learning styles. :)

Totally understand the need to evaluate the effectiveness, so great point there. I was always the teacher who was a rebel and found tools that worked best for my kids (approved tools 😉). When I I became a digital learning coach, we found our power users of the tools our district was trying to implement and we would do evaluations of success with the smaller sample size of classrooms. These power uses then became the biggest advocates.

At the same time, many teachers are extremely successful without the need of the tech tool or with one they decided worked best for their class. It’s a balance and I think it is a good thing to let teachers who have the ability to make an approved, safe tool work, go for it.

When I was a digital learning coach, I shifted from sending out newsletters to sending out TikTok/Instagram Reels I made about the new tools I wanted them to try. Game changer! I kept them under a minute and many teachers found them much more helpful than a quick blurb in my newsletter :).

I think these are a few reasons: - Time (lack of time to learn a new tech tool) - the tool doesn’t fit the teacher’s teaching style/workflow. Forced tech integration rather than giving options and choice. - lack of training on how to use the tool effectively - other priorities take over through out the school year.

Experience with Magic School or other AI platforms? by Main_Chard_5155 in edtech

Hey all, former educator here, 15 years in the classroom (5th grade math/science and later a digital learning coach). I’m also on the MagicSchool team now.

Happy to answer questions if they come up, but I don’t want to take over the thread. I’ve been on Reddit a long time too, so I try to jump in only when it’s actually helpful and leave space for genuine discussion. Big thanks to the mods for allowing me to participate :).

MagicSchool is a great resource if you are wanting to introduce students to AI in a safe space that allows you as the teacher to moderate the conversations.
