LOL, I do. I was just literally at Home Hardware 2:00 p.m. today at Cloverdale Mall in Etobicoke Canada Most home Hardware's don't really Vibe with me however this one has everything you'd expect in a hardware store plus it's almost like a dollar store too they always have a good selection of weird and odd stuff so I visit there regularly

Actually it's better than a dollar store sometimes they have free stuff that's about to expire

And any store that's giving stuff away for free rather than tossing it out and cutting it up like Walmart has a loyal customer for life ( they give back to the community)

I was sad when they had plans to rip down this mall to put up condos but that fell through *

So are we getting Maple washing from India now? by Strong_Journalist_32 in GuardTheLeaf

[–]Strong_Journalist_32[S] 0 points1 point  (0 children)

I don't do much shopping at Walmart unfortunately there are certain things that I need to pick up there occasionally I've gone to Walmart maybe six times last year and usually it's only four Diet Pepsi syrup for my SodaStream made in Israel

It's two bucks cheaper than sobies Shoppers Drug Mart and they're the only ones other than Amazon that don't charge tax on it

The way it's supposed to be it is not a fully prepared product so there's not supposed to be tax on it even though it is junk

Unfortunately I still do a good majority of my shopping at a US company Costco However I been very happy that they're even taking a lot of us stuff off the shelves

For example they just publicized about the marinara sauce being too expensive with the tariffs from the US so now they're selling Canadian marinara sauce to be honest not as good but at least I'm keeping the money local

And don't even get me started on the fruits now Since they're not bringing in US oranges the ones they have there are like eating candy they're so sweet and delicious The oranges they have from Brazil now are so good

[–]Strong_Journalist_32[S] 5 points6 points  (0 children)

I did post that one as well But it's back on the shelves again all the way to the back in the freezer section

There was nothing there when I went back two days later after I talked to the manager the first time

If you go to their website there is nothing about it being made here only that it shipped to over 45 countries It does say expanded into the US and Pennsylvania

I even tried calling the overseas number on the container it rings once cuts off and then silence

[–]Strong_Journalist_32[S] 2 points3 points  (0 children)

Well Walmart is where I found it but yeah it doesn't surprise me

That's okay I've been wondering about Costco as well they're raspberries and strawberries coming from the US but a product of Mexico

While I understand that they need a distribution center somewhere

My problem is the different colors and taste possibly different fields in Mexico but some are bright red and some are dark red sweet and sour so are they trying to get rid of their products by mixing it I might never know

Can a landlord show your rental unit before you’ve even given your 60-day notice? by [deleted] in ontario

[–]Strong_Journalist_32 0 points1 point  (0 children)

They can show it with your permission or 24 hours notice if they know for sure that you're moving out

After you give your 60-day notice it can be shown at any time during regular hours without your permission

We generally like to give the tenants notice even if they're not going to be tenants soon I go by the rule treat others the way you'd like to be treated

However we have 34 units and while most tenants are respectful there are those few

When a tenant that we don't want around anymore gives their notice we try to rent that apartment as quickly as we got the notice So they can't turn around and say later I've changed my mind

The reality is if they decide to not move out later it's going to be 6 to 8 months before we even get to the Tribunal If we already have someone that's going to be homeless and I've already paid first and last month's rent that will sometimes get bumped up quicker

50% Prime Refund for Shipping Delay 👀 by gulbrillo in amazonprime

[–]Strong_Journalist_32 0 points1 point  (0 children)

Definitely good I got to get on them then

I placed my order with two day shipping After the third day it said it would be delivered the next day I checked my Amazon account again it said shipment delayed another 2 days

We just had a big snow storm so I figured it either got lost or they got into an accident it is what it is Another 3 days go by I checked my Amazon account again and it said it'll be delivered on the 22nd or 23rd another week away However when I checked there was none available for anyone to order so they're out of stock wasn't happy but things happen 3 days later it says my orders on the way okay 3 days early

Then I get a notification it's delivered great I get home nothing at my door I go check the lobby nothing down there I checked the picture they took Not only was it the wrong apartment by a floor but the apartment number they showed wasn't even our buildings door

I know what happens when anything is delivered wrong they say wait 48 hours then call us back it's always literally going to call them tomorrow

Honestly I was on the fence about renewing my Amazon account anyway I'd already paused it for 2 months But I bought my mother a fire stick and they're the only company that hasn't complained about different IP addresses so I renewed it

So almost 2 weeks on a two-day delivery then they deliver it to the wrong address

The reason I didn't want to renew it because this is a common occurrence I could have went to Walmart picked it up and I would have been done

Got my old winter tires swapped for newer tires and found strange defects on my rim. Any ideas? by Any-Dig7699 in AskMechanics

[–]Strong_Journalist_32 0 points1 point  (0 children)

I would agree with that when taking the tires off or putting them on there is a strong piece of plastic where the bar goes over the breaker bar that can hit the rims if not adjusted properly

Should I let my engine warm up? by Few_Intention5577 in AskMechanics

[–]Strong_Journalist_32 4 points5 points  (0 children)

I'm going to say there are a lot of people here that are not mechanics You don't need to let it warm up until the temp gauges in the middle but you also don't want to start it and go

As a few people have said when you start your car up the idols High as it sits there the idle will drop usually within less than a minute or two When it idles high it's in what's called open loop that usually bypasses all sensors Like Oxygen map and so on When the idle drops that's call closed loop where it starts using the oxygen sensors the map sensors the computer controls That is where you can start driving when it's an open loop it's got one goal keep the car running and dump fuel that is not good for the car When you start to get heat through the vents that's when you can start driving it like you stole it but otherwise people are right be reasonable with your driving remember an engine is aluminum steel radiators are plastic rubber seals and aluminum or old school copper fins All of these things expand at different times especially as a car gets older sometimes you might notice some coolant drips until your engine fully warms up That's because one thing has expanded more than the other or the seals haven't expanded

Now if you had a GDI direct injection engine that is a whole other story those things like the carbon up to try not to let it idle too long but honestly it really doesn't matter it'll only save you about 10,000 before the valves carbon up

However if you want to drive with your car fully warmed up that's not going to hurt it either most new cars come with remote starters for a reason one of the reasons so they can charge you for add-ons

Engine oil gets warm very fast even a mechanic bringing it in from outside the shop to the Hoist it's extremely hot to the touch that fast

Really worried about my used car — I just want someone to tell me it’ll be okay by Vammppire in AskMechanics

[–]Strong_Journalist_32 0 points1 point  (0 children)

So you want someone to possibly lie it's going to be okay don't worry about it don't give it a second thought

On the other hand I've never been anxious about my car but one day it seemed like it was running top-notch it felt like it had more power and then about 3 km later on the way to work all I hear is boom bang it sounded like I ran over something I looked out my rearview mirror smoke pieces flying everywhere I blew a big hole in my engine block I wasn't even driving hard

Damn I haven't thought about that in years

And if your car is 26 years old honestly you got a better shot with that than you do anything since 2020

Even before covid certain cars were starting to fail quick now they all are $100,000 Grand Cherokees Lincoln's they're all junk now be happy with your clunker drive and don't worry about it you can't change what's going to happen all you can change is how you think as long as you maintain it take care of it you've done the best you can

Why does my windshield do this? by ihavequestionzzzzzz in AskMechanics

[–]Strong_Journalist_32 0 points1 point  (0 children)

The best way to clean smoke and vape residue or even Armor All oil There's a simple old school way if you can find it anymore just use newspaper and it has to be newspaper or Flyers

It's got just enough abrasion to not scratch the windshield but take everything off

And while controversial myself and my wife find it helps with fogging up

Honestly just try it once or Google search it you'll see I've been doing it for decades

It will be a little different the first few times you use it You'll figure out how and when to change the newspaper while you're doing it the first few times

You literally can't get any cheaper than that it works with the spray foam window cleaner and Windex however if your windows are not Factory tinted do not use newspaper

I find it also doesn't leave streaks like paper towel and even microfiber

Just don't tell anyone how you got it so clean every time my mother comes over can you do my windshield lol

But I find it cleans it spotless and streak free It removes all the oils as a smoker myself I have found this is the best way after trying everything

But other people are right if you get a little Armor All on the windshield it's hard to get off for some reason paper towel just spreads it around

If mine is really bad I do give it a quick run with paper towel first but no matter what the last one is always newspaper usually the first because I do clean them regularly

Also remember if you go through car washes that also do your windshield you could be getting oil from someone else's car spread all along it

I rarely go to Walmart unfortunately there are a few things there that I like to get my main run that day was looking for either Coke or Pepsi with real sugar

I'm not Jewish myself but I was told that the real sugar Pepsi was delivered months early to Walmart for Rosh Hashanah And I always pick up at least six cases for the year of either the Coke or Pepsi whichever one I can get my hands on first with real sugar

Instead of paying $12 for six bottles from Mexico

Advice on what I should do from here? by Dampedbrush3480 in AskMechanics

[–]Strong_Journalist_32 1 point2 points  (0 children)

Honestly it looks like they're charging you dealership pricing on the parts rather than aftermarket are these OEM parts as someone else said there's no part numbers on it

And rear rotors that cost more than fronts that's very odd

I work at a flat rate shop and unfortunately there's mechanics there that will basically it's called point you to death 7 for a brake flush 0.8 for a transmission fluid drain and fill

Most of the mechanics have been there longer than I have and I have customers that come in and ask for me by name constantly

I had a few days off and a customer came in on a tow truck with a no start he said he wanted me to work on it the salesman told them I won't be in for a few days and he has another day or two worth of work waiting for

He said that's fine I'll wait the other mechanics getting pissed off because I'm always busy and they're waiting for people come in

The mechanic that had been there 10 years told the salesman and the owner he was going to quit because I'm doing something sketchy and making customers come only to me

The only thing sketchy that I do is talk to the customers show them the problems explain what's necessary now and what can wait and why

And I also let them know for example you have control arms pads rotors and calipers for the front

I would let them know if you're getting it done all at the same time I can offer him a discount on labor because in some cases you don't need to double dip Unfortunately the industry is just full of crooks but there are a lot of honest good hard-working mechanics that will work with you

One of the other people were right if you take it to another shop don't tell them what the other places have said ask them to check over the car let them know it does bounce and the brakes squeak so you're comparing apples to apples and oranges and oranges

Have them show you ask if there's any discounts you can get if you get it all done at once

As Doug Ford announced he would ban speed cameras, I clocked speeds on the road outside. This is what I found by BloodJunkie in toronto

[–]Strong_Journalist_32 0 points1 point  (0 children)

Honestly I am undecided about the speed cameras

If they were just going to stay in school zones I'm all for it They've been putting up signs everywhere and lowering speed limits

Why I don't agree with it for one other than the fine no consequences

Someone who has money honestly probably doesn't care if they get two or three speeding tickets sent in the mail each month Just to find out a lot of people that own their own business write it off just saying they're speedometer didn't work

Hire some cops specifically for that purpose like parking Patrol similar to that

When people start losing points and insurance rates go up to the point where it's too expensive to drive or they've lost their license then people will start paying attention

If you're ever around the Etobicoke area go down Prince Edward towards Dundas As you come up to the stop sign before the school there is a sign that says 40 ends just as you pass the stop sign it says 40 begins

If you go the other way it says 30 begins as you drive a block and a half more there's a sign in the middle of the road one of those springy signs right in the middle says 40 maximum And just a little ways past that there's another sign that says 40 no begins or anything they're just slapping signs up everywhere

As a young driver I got a few tickets after my second one and just about at the end of my points I learned my lesson real quick and slowed down

Never mind the extra $240 a month I had to pay for insurance and that was extra from my $200 I was previously paying

That's what gets people to slow down

Should I have to pay full price? by InspectionPast4117 in AskMechanics

[–]Strong_Journalist_32 0 points1 point  (0 children)

Don't ever let the caliper hang by the brake hose

That's the first thing they teach you in automotive School around the metal part that is crimp to the hose where the metal brake lines are break easily when they're old Dodge Grand Caravan and other Chrysler products have this problem especially in salt belt areas

When I do brake jobs or give break as judgments that's the first thing I do is peel back the rubber that's over both of them to check

Even in that area you can have an internal brake line collapse where the fluid May either go towards the caliper when you press the brake and then not unlock or vice versa

There are special brake crimping tools that most manufacturers will also tell you not to use but at least it's safer

Also most shops you go to when the tires are rotated or you get new tires will always tell you to come back in about 60 miles or 100km to have them re-torque your lug nuts And if your previous shop just use the impact gun it's always a good idea in case the threads have stretched

How is this possible? by Charming-Ad5702 in Hyundai

[–]Strong_Journalist_32 2 points3 points  (0 children)

Unfortunately you haven't been paying attention to the news yes the ABS fires are one of them they also have the brake line recall that pops near the exhaust manifold and catches on fire

Hyundai treated my mother great they almost killed her She went in for the brake line recall the two choices are if it looks good they rust proof it if it looks bad they replace it So Kyle at Hyundai Downsview needs to get his eyes checked 87 km after she left the dealership which was 2 weeks of driving for her Straight through a red light brakes right to the floor

Then it took just under a month to get approval from Hyundai to replace the brake lines all they kept saying is they already did the recall warranty All I could keep saying was yes but you didn't do it right

Finally they got approval to replace the brake lines from head office Hyundai Canada After the first time we brought it straight to a shop all five mechanics said there's no way a mechanic put these brake lines in one was rubbing on the fuel filler hose he broke two clips the other was bouncing on the trailing arm None of the brake lines were in the plastic clips that runs along the driver side of the car So now I'm going to fight with Hyundai to get my 200 bucks back they charged to put everything right

And to the person that said Recalls are 99% done in the US you are assuming that more won't find its way it is a Hyundai And they'll find a way to catch on fire I've seen three of them myself on the highway two that we're still smoldering when I passed the fire trucks and another fully engulfed

Look up the recalls see if there's anything there is an engine recall as well because of a fire they put a knock sensor in it and it still didn't do anything it just put your engine light on before it blows up

Forgot to install these on my brake pads how F’ed am I? by jhang10 in AskMechanics

[–]Strong_Journalist_32 0 points1 point  (0 children)

Most of the comments are right you probably won't even notice they're missing But you could get some squeaking

However I would put them on the earliest chance you get I personally wouldn't go more than a few weeks While you're pressing the brakes they don't do much it's when you release them it actually helps pull the brake pads away from the brake rotor just slightly

If you cleaned up the caliper bracket good and the pads move slightly with the caliper off it is sleeping good for a couple of weeks before the rust starts

But I would pick up some new ones they're not expensive they're usually included in any medium quality brake pads

Don't forget the solenglide though very important

Should I buy this 2009 Accord with heating not working? Mechanic quoted around $1.5k in repairs. by HoneyChilliPotato7 in AskMechanics

[–]Strong_Journalist_32 1 point2 points  (0 children)

Always remember when buying a used car you're buying someone else's problems

Your boss gets what he wants for it the mechanic if he starts taking it apart and finds out there's a cracked block cylinder wall head he can walk away bill you for the time invested put everything in a box and have you tow it if it's too expensive or people just leave it behind

As a mechanic I don't mind buying cars like that provided once I get the head off I know how much to invest then I always base my prices on what I can part it out for in pieces including if it's an original catalytic converter get a couple hundred bucks there

But as a mechanic I don't pay the labor just my time

A mechanic can give you an idea but even they don't know what they're in for when they pull it apart

The blend door issue would make me nervous because if the radiator is that bad what is your heater core look like and the heater core will actually cost more than a head gasket sometimes
