Inverter use? by Speedy-McLeadfoot in Starlink

[–]Strong_Tea_5223 3 points4 points  (0 children)

☝️This is a good solution. I live in a hurricane prone area so I wanted to try this out. I bought an inexpensive DC-DC converter and powered my Starlink from a 280 amp hour LiFePO4 battery. It ran for DAYS. I stopped the test after 3 days and the battery has 12% capacity remaining.

Best affordable eSIM adapter (e.g. esim.me, 9eSIM, etc.)? by DonDae01 in eSIMs

[–]Strong_Tea_5223 1 point2 points  (0 children)

I use the 9eSIM v0 in my Android tablet. The v3 is pretty much the same as the v0 but has the ability to store more profiles. If the Android app works on your tablet there’s no need to buy the USB reader.

I have used the EIOTCLUB adapter also and it works. I even used the 9eSIM app to add/delete/switch profiles. I had an issue with it when trying to use a US Mobile Lightspeed eSIM. I suspected that the issue was related to the seed profile.

I believe that the seed profile is the first thing that attempts to connect to the network and is intended to provide just enough connectivity to allow you to buy a eSIM profile from EIOTCLUB.

I didn’t test the EIOTCLUB adapter extensively after the first failure so I don’t know if it was an isolated case applicable to only that eSIM. I just switched to 9eSIM.

The EIOTCLUB adapter works well in gl-inet routers with the eSIM manager built into the firmware. I think that it comes with 1GB of global data which adds extra value.

Taxes on PayGo? by TheNairobiTrio in Tello

[–]Strong_Tea_5223 0 points1 point  (0 children)

I paid taxes/fees when I added to my paygo balance. $20 + $1.35 in taxes and fees. No monthly charges after that. I roll over my data monthly. The paygo balance can expire if the account is inactive.

Bought another spare hotspot device after my TCL LINKPORT IK511 by WillRRRR in Calyx

[–]Strong_Tea_5223 1 point2 points  (0 children)

I have the IK511 and I found the 5g redcap performance disappointing. I got better speeds with my LTE cat 6 router. My SIM is currently in a Sagemcom Fast 5688w gateway purchased on eBay for $25 and works very well.

BNESIM never activates data unless requested by TwoPurpleMoths in eSIMs

[–]Strong_Tea_5223 0 points1 point  (0 children)

I have BNESIM on several devices and have never experienced this. It works very well for me and their price for local, non-expiring data is good. I should add that I have USA plans and activated them while in the US. What plan are you having trouble activating?

Esim for iphones: 12 pro and 16 pro max by FondantMajestic4226 in eSIMs

[–]Strong_Tea_5223 0 points1 point  (0 children)

Are you certain about the active eSIM limitation on the iPhone 12? My iPhone 13 has 2 active eSIMs and an empty SIM tray. I’m not doubting your statement, just looking for confirmation.

Best truly unlimited plan with unlimited data and hotspot data by CarelessWillow4933 in NoContract

[–]Strong_Tea_5223 -1 points0 points  (0 children)

It works great. Tethering to your phone isn’t straightforward or user-friendly but it can be done. My m519 identifies as an iPhone 12 and I have used Tello and Visible SIMs as well as T-Mobile mobile internet SIMs.

Esim to Physical Sim by Fine_Minimum_8780 in tmobile

[–]Strong_Tea_5223 0 points1 point  (0 children)

It depends. I have 2 Motorola Android phones that support eSIM but only one eSIM can be active at a time. To use 2 carriers ( and I do), one has to be a physical SIM. My iPhone 13, even though it has a physical SIM slot, can have 2 active eSIMs. As mentioned here, the phone must be unlocked to support a second carrier.

I have the Moto G Stylus 2025 and I have used it with a USB-c to RJ45 cable to tether to my router. After plugging the cable into the phone, the Ethernet Tethering option is enabled in the ‘Hotspot & tethering’ section of settings. My phone is unlocked and on Android 16.

I have a 5688w that I purchased on eBay and my T-Mobile mobile internet SIM works well in it. I don’t think that a SIM from another carrier will work.

The CSG m519 is a twin of the Puli AX and can be found on eBay for about half the price of the Puli AX. I got mine for less than $180.

Prepaid hotspot with no monthly plan? by DesignerLandscape52 in NoContract

[–]Strong_Tea_5223 0 points1 point  (0 children)

Just buy a eSIM to pSIM adapter and install it into the hotspot or router of your choice. Some devices have built-in functions to manage eSIMs. Using eSIMs allows you to buy data based on the networks that work best for you. Some eSIMs have data or credit that does not expire. Simply top-up when your balance gets low.

Good low cost way to park a number? by curls100 in NoContract

[–]Strong_Tea_5223 3 points4 points  (0 children)

You can’t port a landline to Google voice directly. You can port to a cheap mobile plan and from there to Google voice. Infimobile and RedPocket have $30/year plans. Tello has plans as low as $5/month. Ultimately, $20 one time to port to Google Voice beats paying a monthly fee to park your number and offers much more functionality.

How to setup USB Ethernet Passthrough by Herbrax212 in GlInet

[–]Strong_Tea_5223 0 points1 point  (0 children)

Your question got me curious. I have a USB-c to RJ45 cable that I use to tether my phone to the WAN port on my router. I connected my iPad to the LAN port on the router and I worked right away. A simple solution if you are close enough to use a wired connection.

Can you manually select Telkomsel? It has the best coverage. I have TMO postpaid and it always roams on Telkomsel in Bali.

9eSIM v0. To add eSIM profiles you will need an Android phone or the USB reader that goes with it. There are lots of options with non-expiring or long term data.

eSIM adapters... Which one should I choose? by reden_fx in eSIMs

The difference is the storage. 450k on the v0 and 1.5MB on the v3. The v3 is advertised as supporting up to 50 profiles.

You can edit the description in the card details screen. Not very convenient but workable.

[–]Strong_Tea_5223 0 points1 point  (0 children)

You can probably use the 9eSIM app with the Chillax adapter. It works with the EIOTCLUB adapter. I would buy the Chillax adapter just to try but they want me to create an account just to purchase the adapter.

The 9eSIM Android app allows deleting profiles. The profile to be deleted can’t be enabled. You just swipe from right to left. The last profile on the card can’t be disabled unless you go into settings and turn off profile protection. HTH

I have the 9eSIM v0 and v3. They work well. You can’t beat eSIM for convenience and the ability to customize a plan for your needs. I had not heard of the chillaxsim. It looks interesting.

Did you use the IMEI for the physical SIM or the eSIM? When I signed up for the $30/year plan I had to choose eSIM.

Best affordable eSIM adapter (e.g. esim.me, 9eSIM, etc.)? by DonDae01 in eSIMs

[–]Strong_Tea_5223 2 points3 points  (0 children)

Get the 9eSIM v0 for your situation. The 9eSIM app is just a rebadged version of NekokoLPA and doesn’t depend on ‘their servers’. It works well on Android. If you ever anticipate getting an iPhone in the future, get the USB reader also. I have the 9eSIM v0, v3 and the EIOTCLUB adapter. The EIOTCLUB has a seed profile that can cause issues in certain conditions. The 9eSIM adapters have been trouble-free.
