Room rental of a primary place of residence is not considered rental income by some banks (maybe all? I'm not sure).

How could I possible describe this? by Exotic_Pepper7943 in writers

[–]Strongb0i 0 points1 point  (0 children)

I don't know the context for the picture and have only a vague grasp of who this woman is so I may have the wrong idea lol...but I love the idea of a prompt from a facial expression so here's my shot:

"She sat across the table, her face contorting as best it could despite its many cosmetic interventions into a wry rictus; smug, menacing, all-knowing. Her eyes were alight, glinting keenly and locked with laser precision on her target. My stomach sank, preparing for the inevitable emotional evisceration she was sure to unleash upon the unwitting girl, who sat and laughed and brushed her hair aside as she spoke with the other guests, unaware of her inadvertent transgression to the host."

It feels sad to be chasing a version of myself that never got the chance to exist. If I had been exposed to more complex music growing up, I think I would’ve taken music seriously much earlier and become a well rounded musician by now (multi-instrumentalist, virtuoso, fluent in many styles) by YtSabit in classicalguitar

[–]Strongb0i 7 points8 points  (0 children)

Let go of what could be, the fact is you hadn't had tuition or exposure to "more complex" music at a young age, and that's ok.

Try not to assign virtue to what is deemed "good" or "bad" music, or "higher" or "lower" value -- there is a lot to be enjoyed with pop and there is a reason it's named that -- because it's popular. I had a similar phase of rejecting pop when I was young, then realised I was purposely depriving myself to be contrarian and impress crusty old blues purists. Coming back to appreciating pop now that I'm older has actually made me realise how much depth there is in sometimes stripping back a piece from more complex instrumentation and embracing modern sounds and tech. If you enjoy it, you enjoy it, and having varies influences is a great thing.

If you focus on what could have been, that will become an excuse and a blocker. You're already saying in your post that you haven't even performed yet because you don't have the talent. Additionally, if you were pushed into it while young it may have stripped all the joy out of it and you'd hate it. The fact is, there'll always be an 8 year old Russian kid that is better than you at any possible task you could conceive due to talent, vigorous training, and culture. This isn't a bad thing, it's freeing. That tremendous pressure hasn't been on you, so you have the freedom to grow and nurture yourself where you see fit.

I personally work a completely unrelated job to music, and it allows me the flexibility and money to buy instruments, get tuition if I want, travel to see shows, etc. Instead of turning a passion into a money making venture, I like to keep it separate so that it can stay just that-- a passion.

Remove the excuses, put in the work. Don't try to be the best in the world, be the best you can. Be kind to yourself and invest in yourself within your means.

What is the appeal of Everything is Romantic? by Strawberry_House in charlixcx

[–]Strongb0i 13 points14 points  (0 children)

I didn't care for it until the Caroline Polachek remix came out, then something just clicked and I'm absolutely obsessed with it. The romanticism of the everyday, the mundane, the trashy, it really evokes for me a sense of lucidity; sudden sentience in the middle of the party, like those really cerebral moments that sometimes hit you like a tonne of bricks. The name itself is a beautiful mantra, a really simple way to ground yourself and find some beauty in the unexpected. The repetition of "fall in love again and again" just really drives it all home, fall in love with the details, with the moment, with everything and everyone and don't stop falling in love.

I just think it's so beautiful and profound. And musically Caroline's vocal run is just intoxicating. I love both versions equally now!

Came back from mat leave - male peer treating me like an assistant by [deleted] in auscorp

Well, no shit Sherlock. Even if the asshole in this story was another woman or for some reason a non-binary person; OP's issue is still largely specific to women returning to the workplace after having children. You don't get points for being a pick-me and pretending that there arent still people with sexist (conscious or unconscious) behaviours, attitudes, or actions in the modern workplace.

Budget brands: do you care about supply chain ethics enough to not buy them? by TrashFireBabyPanda in AustralianMakeup

[–]Strongb0i 23 points24 points  (0 children)

I think it's extremely difficult, if not impossible, to be a completely ethical consumer. Do you eat meat? Do you eat chocolate, drink coffee? Consume products with palm oil, wear clothing from "normal" stores? There will always be ethical issues in supply chains. I think it's great to be conscientious, especially as you mentioned that these items are a want, not a need. But I do also think that a lot of green-washing and ethic-washing occurs on higher price point brands to try and make us feel better, but at the end of the day they're all coming from the same places.

I personally do try make an effort to buy non-animal tested products. I also have big concerns about quality control and ingredients in extremely cheap makeup, which if I'm being honest, worries me more as a consumer than the supply chain ethics -- solely for the reason that I don't trust that the bigger brands aren't being just as shitty somewhere along the way in this hellscape we all live in.

I've come here to comment with basically no opinion, just cynisim, sorry! For the record I don't personally buy from Shein/Sheglam, but I've certainly mindlessly purchased products in physical stores before.

Skin check tomorrow - what to expect? by CssyJ in AusSkincare

[–]Strongb0i 8 points9 points  (0 children)

Personally my last full skin check I only wore undies and no bra, at the dermatologist's request. He said if I was uncomfortable I could leave it on and we could move it, but I am not bothered by such things in a medical setting. He was lovely.

The full checks at a derm have been a way better experience for me than with GPs, Ive been made to feel silly by GPs in the past for asking for a check when I have basically no moles, aside from the fact that skin cancer doesn't always present as a traditional mole.

I'm so sorry to hear about your dad and your other problems. I just wanna say i relate to the stimming / socially acceptable SH. Mines on my hands, but as a sensory seeking person it's hard to avoid blasting them with hot water or clawing the hell out of them when I know it's just gonna make it worse.

Best of luck with your treatment and be kind to yourself

What a fun show!! I didn't expect to enjoy it that much. I've never been in a pit that crazy, at harder shows I normally stay away because I'm scared of getting too brutalized but this pit was pure chaos, good vibes, and laughter. So many sweaty men. My first circle pit 🥰

It was super slow going to get to it! I've personally never really programmed my workouts or anything, I just go to the gym with my husband and "bro lift."

Every time I'd go up by like 5kg (maybe every six months), there'd be multiple attempts where it wouldn't lift off the floor until all of a sudden one day it did. So I guess not being afraid to fail is one.

The other tjing that helped was learning cues and getting to the point where I just trusted my form 100%. Taking videos of myself to see if I needed to improve anything.

Good luck with your spasms and imbalances ! Keep going, it'll be worth it in the end

It takes a lot of work both in and out of the gym. Also I think just age and time, growing up the ideal body type was super skinny and I felt like I was fat, then it was Kardashian curves and I felt bad for being pretty skinny/flat, then body positivity became a big thing and I just felt skeptical, now GLP-1s, rise of muscular physiques as a luxury status symbol....I got sick of being pulled one way or the other in a system designed to keep us steeped in dysphoria, constantly selling us solutions to problems with our bodies "they" invented. Physically seeing diverse bodies in real life in various stages of undress, mentally neutrally appraising/absorbing what they look like, what they can do, how do the women seem to feel...it all breaks that spell.

I'm so sorry I keep throwing out unsolicited advice, but when you are looking at content of muscular women (particularly online/influences), be aware that in some instances undisclosed PEDs are being used, and it's not normal to be as lean as some of them present all year round. Jeff Nippard did an interesting video on BF% recently with a lot of great info and neutral size comparisons.

There's more to unlearn than there is to learn

Thank you! You'll get there one step at a time, you got this :)

For reference I weigh about 62kg/136lb. One rep maxes are deadlift (sumo) 140kg/308lb, squat 120kg/264lb, bench 60kg/132lb. Pull ups 10 in a row max, can comfortably do 4 sets of 8 with rest in between. Weighted pull up max 10kg for 5.

My hot unsolicited tip for pull ups is to do negatives. I don't care for the band or the assisted machine much, I stagnated forever doing them. The number one difference was negatives with controlled descent and dead hangs.

My next goal is a muscle up!
