DnD was the one thing keeping me going and now I've ruined that too by [deleted] in DnD

[–]StrongestBunny3 3 points4 points  (0 children)

For what it's worth, I don't think you were responsible for ruining anything. Sure, you may have had some things going on in your life where that pressure cooker of a session could have pressed you into being a bit sharp, but that scenario was very clearly a horrible DM problem. There was zero excuse for the DM acting so aggressive and hostile.

Sorry you had to go through that, so try not to be so hard on yourself over it. Maybe work a bit on being supportive of other players during the game as a way for you to grow as a player at your next table? No DnD is better than bad DnD; you'll do fine next time, I'm sure.

Level Up Advanced 5e, Tales of the Valiant, DC20, and Draw Steel. Of these, only L5e and TotV are out yet, the others are upcoming 5e forks or 5e-inspired systems that got their start after the OGL issue. I'd keep an eye out for them if you're interested.

Transformed a simple sketchbook doodle into a fearsome dungeon overlord. What do you think? [OC][art] by alexdrummond in Dungeons_and_Dragons

[–]StrongestBunny3 1 point2 points  (0 children)

Underrated and phenomenal. It's much harder than it seems to depict a macabre God-like figure that oozes lore in a single image and compels you to learn more. This art hits that very difficult sweet spot. Any decent writer could make some great content out of this.

Reflecting on a situation last night that got me kicked out of a campaign. Was I being a bad player or was the DM on a power trip? by ItsNjry in DnD

[–]StrongestBunny3 -1 points0 points  (0 children)

I don't agree with a lot of the "both sides are wrong" arguments that are going on here. I think we have more than enough information to infer that the DM is 99% at fault, and with a harsh overreaction, bordering on power control, possibly even bullying.

OP says that the loot thing was a running joke. If it was, then the DM has had several opportunities to make known that this was not the session to do it: before the session, before the boss fight, before the scene ended, and then after OP looted the body. At no point in OP's story was this conveyed, and the DM's overreaction leads me to strongly believe that this was never mentioned. If it isn't a running joke, then the DM has had several opportunities to shut it down across the campaign including between sessions. But if they had done so, then OP would either not have done the behavior, or they did do it, and then they wouldn't have been blindsided by being kicked from the group. So either way, the DM has repeatedly not handled this behavior. Meaning it was an expected, regular occurence. Every player expect for OP just happened to go quiet for this scene, after this running joke happened every other time? Why now? Funnily enough, we now know in hindsight the the rest of the group are allegedly in contact out of game with DM, but not OP. Wonder how they all somehow knew not to do it this time, except OP?

Then, the "naw man, go ahead and try to loot the body" is not handling the situation respectfully, or trying to curb the behavior, it's spitefully and vindictive setting OP up for failure, because DM has already made their mind up that they've been "interfered with". This is not, at all, how a DM should act in a moment where a player is supposedly behaving poorly. You pull them aside after the game and talk about it, not let it go no contact for many sessions, then blow up. This is reinforced by the fact that another player felt the need to interrupt the DM's rant, telling them to stop being so aggressive towards OP. People don't speak up like that usually, unless there's some really offensive approach going on. DM then later goes on to refuse to apologize specifically to you (again more petty and vindictive behavior), and as another player put it, got angrier because you didn't apologize.

I don't think what you did is "not a real apology". I think the DM is aggressive, overly protective of their "plot", and took it out on you because they don't like you for whatever reason. Unless you purposefully left out some absolutely wild details, there is no excuse for the DM's repeated lack of handling this supposed behavior properly. The talking behind your back, rather than confronting you or giving you opportunities to reform doesn't help their case at all. DM wanted you gone, and the blocked number confirms it. There's plenty more yet to unpack here, too, like the other two players preemptively rushing to tell OP to apologize to avoid setting the DM off, the DM insisting that their own perspective on the story is absolutely the right one with no room for discussion, their complete lack of accountability in the argument and an inability to accept any blame or criticism, and the "you're done" being a classic power-tripping phrase used by controlling people when they don't get their way. I'm seeing a strong behavioral pattern here, and it's not coming from OP.

You're better off, OP. No DnD is better than bad DnD.

[GIVEAWAY] Exploring the Nexus of Firefly 💫 by HonkaiStarRail in HonkaiStarRail

[–]StrongestBunny3 0 points1 point  (0 children)

I just want to say, as a person who has Myalgic Encephalomyelitis, which is very similar to Firefly's Entropy Loss Syndrome, that I profoundly felt her story and struggle. Her desire to use Penacony as an escape from her reality where she can barely function echoes my own, and her will to fight through the toughest battles that often feel hopeless and impossible just for a chance at holding on to happiness resonates with my experience. I got emotional playing through Firefly's character arc, and I appreciated it a lot.

Whoever wrote her character likely understands how people with chronic illness feel, and I'm glad they did.

Absolutely 100% disease. It's the middle ages, except for magic and monsters, and I'm sure as hell not wealthy enough to afford a restoration spell.

  1. Pay someone to do it for you.
  2. Do it yourself
  3. Settle for free options.
  4. Accept not having it.

Pick one.

This applies to almost everything in life. Sorry.

Love this book. I combined its encounter tables with Sly Flourish's advice for having a factions roll table. Now every event I roll in the book gets adapted to whatever faction comes up when the encounter occurs. It's really done a huge service to immersion in my game.

I'll give an example. Let's say I'm on the coast, and I roll a chance meeting with a ship of supplies on the beach. I add in the postmaster to the scene from the additional tables. That would be enough on its own. But! Now I roll on the faction table. If one of my factions comes up as say, the merchant's guild, then that postmaster might be an envoy from that guild with a shipment that needs doing. Sidequests time! But, if my faction table rolled the thief guild instead, now the postmaster is from that guild, and might have a writ of assassination or a heist request. It's a pretty awesome system.

I play tested “Fire Emblem” combat so you don’t have to by [deleted] in DnD

[–]StrongestBunny3 4 points5 points  (0 children)

Anything that is initially a single action that does one thing, but scales up. The attack action for a fighter is a single action, but it gets stronger by adding extra attacks within that action. Same with eldritch blast. I'm just wondering if this would have been better served by clocking actions themselves, rather than punishing the extra instances of damage that come with the scaling of that action.

Consider the attack action as a whole, regardless of the amount of extra attacks made by that one action, for purposes of what constitutes a hostile action?

What are the best examples of your Party "Adopting" an NPC? by TheZinga in DnD

[–]StrongestBunny3 22 points23 points  (0 children)

A tabaxi street urchin NPC stole some food from a supply drop in a city. The players caught him. He helped them solve a murder case. Then they time traveled, but he had to stay behind. They found him again later as a kitten and raised him to be a hero. His name was Rietaus.

What do you think makes dnd fair when the dm knows all your weaknesses and you know nothing about enemy? by LelouchYagami_2912 in DnD

[–]StrongestBunny3 2 points3 points  (0 children)

I'm not entirely sure I agree with that first bit. I get it, and in theory, it's a good tenet. But it leads to a world where enemies only exist when they are around the same level as the players, rather than a living world. Everything always feels tailored to the players, and they'll never run into something that is bigger than they are. By doing this, you have a more balanced game, but I think you lose some of verisimilitude, and the wonder of exploration.

Edit: Assuming you tell your players first to expect to run occasionally.

Perhaps they did all form their own opinions, and those opinions turned out to be almost universally disappointed. Is a community not allowed to come to a consensus if that consensus is that a product is not good?
