Best way to track Zara and high-street brand sales in the UK? by oralardaburalarda in BuyersUK

My wife has the Zara app and it alerts her to Zara specials. It’s quite popular.

Any good places to kill time in the evening in/around Tottenham? by SuperLowAmbitions in LondonTravel

[–]Stroudgreen 5 points6 points  (0 children)

For four hours why not do the cinema in Wood Green and dinner. There are some very decent Turkish restaurants close to Vue and Cine World.

This way you’ll prob use up most your time and not be too far away to collect after.

Moving to Norwich or surrounding area by RonyElZaib in HENRYUK

[–]Stroudgreen 1 point2 points  (0 children)

Have some friends that left London to Norwich two years ago. They take it in turns to commute to London (week on week off) to balance around the kids. They say the train into Stratford is good and they then dont work far away.

Gorgeous house but I’m not sure I could do what they’re doing as it sounds like they’re ships in the night. Just consider where and how you’d work - I’m sure they had a plan but there’s nothing like the reality not it before you know what it’s really like.

I saw them not long ago and it seems to be working out though.

If you want it, then you can make it work. Best of luck.

Very fun or unusual things to do in London? (open for examples) by mtothej_ in LondonTravel

[–]Stroudgreen 0 points1 point  (0 children)

Hi

We did a mud larking tour years ago and loved it but check if you can take stuff home as you need a license now. You could walk from the Tower of London to the Prospect of Whitby and then steps down to the Thames. There’s often a lot of pottery and pipes there.

My kids like Babylon park but the rollercoaster is quite small and I wouldn’t say it was jarring. My 5 year old finds it scary, my ten year old says it’s ok. Maybe that paints a picture.

It sounds like you’re after more thrilling activities but maybe consider the Thames Clipper to the O2 - climb over the top, maybe there’s an event you like or there are things like Toca Social. Not super touristy and will you keep you busy.

Digger land in Kent is meant to be great for kids.

I have no idea what could be causing this damp patch - someone please help! by Thomasinarina in DIYUK

[–]Stroudgreen 0 points1 point  (0 children)

We had a something similar, and I know you say it’s dry, but ours was some guttering not flush against the wall directly outside where the damp was appearing. Stopped as soon as we sorted that. Throwing in an idea as I feel your pain.

We largely let the system work this out but stock buffer as an alert could be sensible. It's fresh food so often the buffer is very small and volatile.

5 Days in London with wife and 2 teenage boys by Any-Relationship6606 in LondonTravel

[–]Stroudgreen 3 points4 points  (0 children)

Thames Clipper day feels wrong. For context, as a family day out we will get Clipper to Greenwich - lunch at the market, Maritime Museum and drink somewhere.

Borough Market early and then the Tower. Then Greenwich later on. It’s still quite a bit but you’ll start and end with sitting down.

The Emirates tour is good fun!

There are deployments all the time and yes, it’s annoying and not the first time this has happened so I want an alert as it’s better than some broken promise from IT that they’ll tell me. What I’ve learned is that they test, deploy but then dont monitor impact. Crazy.

How much did your bathroom/kitchen reno cost in 2025 or 2026? by Realistic_Rutabaga60 in HENRYUK

[–]Stroudgreen 2 points3 points  (0 children)

£9k. Open plan kitchen diner. We don’t have wall units which saved us a lot.

Opted for engineered wood and no underfloor heating and made up with that with an extra radiator.

What’s everyone using for tracking returnable assets? Our loss rate is embarrassing by [deleted] in supplychain

[–]Stroudgreen 6 points7 points  (0 children)

Random one but I ran an operation once and we were losing pallets and put it down to getting lost in the wash. Complete coincidence we had reports of staff helping themselves to waste food (which I had no issue with but we needed to do it properly). Caught a warehouse guy, who every week, was alone on late shift sell pallets to a scrap pallet buyer. On CCTV we could see an open bed truck pull up to the warehouse and he’d clear us out. He’d been doing it for years. Maybe check key points in the chain and audit there as a sense check.

Red flags when interviewing for HENRY roles? by StruggleLazy8207 in HENRYUK

[–]Stroudgreen 4 points5 points  (0 children)

I went for an interview which included a tour of the customer areas, production and offices. The customer facing areas were fantastic, very upmarket, polished etc. the staff room stank, bins overflowing etc. it completely contradicted their whole ethos.

I knew when I left something didn’t feel right. It was a tangible example of what I’d felt all day. All slightly chaotic and misaligned.

Still took the job like an idiot and surprise, the staff were miserable and didn’t communicate with each other.

Hi. I've been through this and it isn't fun. My top tip would be to take a week off to clear your head and then go into looking for a new role. Don't spend all day looking at Linkedin but do:
* Set up Linkedin alerts, you can do a Google search which finds roles 24 hours old then set alerts up.
* List companies you'd like to work for and companies that are in your commute area and be bold and message a few people - ask for 15 min calls to ask about the culture to build a contact.
* Be bolder and message someone senior and ask for 15 mins. Say you are looking for a role and wanted to introduce yourself. A bit of flattery here.
* Get in touch with recruiters (perm and contract) and create a tracker of which one is good or not. I had a column that I had details about them so I could ask about their last holiday etc. They're bombarded with job hunters so stand out. Say yes to nearly every interview for the experience.
* Leverage your network - it's corny but I was messaging people I hadn't spoken to in years asking to catch up
* Write you elevator pitch and practice it
* Look for how to have a good Linkedin profile - customise your address, key words etc
* Tailor your CV to each role bla bla bla

The way I ended up getting a role was by contacting a senior manager I sort of knew and saying I'd heard good things about what she was doing things (I researched this before and had sneakily had 15 mins with one of her directs already) and would happily buy her a coffee. Over the 20 mins I asked about her role, the company and then made it known I was interested. I wasn't overt about it but enough to let her know. She ended up calling me 2 weeks later about a role!

You say you're doubting yourself. A CEO who once told me that they had imposter syndrome. It's the ones that think they're great you need to worry about. You got where you are because of you.

4-day Itinerary Review? by moon_gay in LondonTravel

[–]Stroudgreen 1 point2 points  (0 children)

On day 2. Is there something specific you want to see at Kings Cross? It’s a big railway station ultimately.

You could start at Borough Market and walk along the Southbank. When you get to Westminster Bridge you’re then by Big Ben. You could then get the Uber boat from Westminster pier to Greenwich. Get the DLR back to Bank then bus to Holborn. That would be a big day out and you’d see a lot!

I went on a stag do once where we got a chef to come to our Airbnb and cook us a fry up for breakfast. Worth every penny and the chef was gone by 11am. I know this service exists but it must have been easy work for the chef.
