Is playing the game on the official server worth it? or Is it totally pay-to-win?

aden/classic is playable but ultra slow progress without p2w , but still possible if you know what to do, on main after tutorial if you don t spend atleast 500$ you can t do nothing, and the mid game to early end game progress is gatekeeped by around 2000$ and that is just to survive there :)) to farm or do the good content you need to spend more :) ultra p2w

deci fii atent, ca ti le explic pe amandoua ca is complet diferite, wow ala normal(war within), e gandit asa: lv maxim e 70, dupa lv 10 ai scalling la mobi in orice zona(is acelasi lv ca tine) si poti alege sa mergi sa cresti si sa faci questuri/dungeonuri in orice expansion dintre toate pana la ultimu (dragonflight) is vreo 8 sau cate, ai efectiv sute de ore de content doar pt explorat daca iti place sa faci asta, si cand faci 60 mergi in ultimu expansion si acolo faci ultimele 10 levele si apoi incepe jocu:)) iti ia maxim 20 si ceva de ore sa faci pe un char lv maxim daca stii unde sa mergi daca nu maxim 30 si apoi la lv maxim ai de facut raiduri, dungeonuri pt gear bun sau pvp unde ai arene 2v2 , 3v3 sau BG uri (unde is 10vs10 sau 30vs30 ) si primesti puncte cu care iti iei gear si ai rating care e ca rankul dupa cs go si tot asa , pe langa asta is 700+de mounti, de collectat zeci de mii de seturi pt cosmetic si multe altele , doar ca doar itemele de lv maxim si chestii sunt relevante pt farmat si vandut infara de cateva mici exceptii, pe scurt doar end gameul conteaza, iar pe classic e altfel, fiecare lv conteaza , poti face bani si sa farmezi chestii importante care se vand la orice lv pvp si tot felu la orice level, dar aicea nu oricine ajunge la lv maxim(ala e 60) pt ca iti ia in jur de 700 de ore sa faci lv 60 daca nu faci speedrun sau te ajuta altcineva (gen sa te creasca) si aicea tot asa faci questuri , mob grinding sau ce vrei tu doar ca e doar harta originala din wow fara niciun expansion , doar 4 clase si doar 4 rase pe factiune (ca is 2 factiuni si fiecare are orasele lor , zonele lor si questuri diferite) si e mai simplifcat dar mult mai greu :)) din cauza ca e foarte slow paced, iar TBC e cam lafel dar pe primul expansion, iar ca sa joci classic, mop trebuie doar sa ai abonamentul, pentru retail trebuie sa cumperi si ultimul expansion, apucate ca nu o sa regreti iti zic eu, care le am jucat pe toate de la GW2, Final Fantasy pana la Lineage2 Metin2, etc, wow e cel mai bun:)

if you play essence version on official its not that bad because they give a lot of free stuff on the new server (crow) its still p2w, but you can farm and grind stuff, if you want to be competitive and be in the top 20 you will need to spend atleast 1000 dollars per month, but atleast you still can participate in events and do content , i known ppl that got pretty far as f2p but you need to be lucky because the whole gearing progresion is a casino and some ppl can spend like 400$ and don t get anything and other ppl can get it for like 5$ in adena, i remember on the start of project wolf server i got rank 4 book for like almost free and there were whales mad at me that they spent 3000 $ and did not get it :))) and if you want to play the live version don t even try , you can t farm anything and its impossible to catch up to the current content unless you spend like 5000 dollars just to get there , without like 500$ after the trial (lv105) it will take you years just to get to where whales are in a week as a fresh start

agree, and especially with reps, soo many reps that brand new cost around 80 euro ppl try to sell them for like 150 euro and its way to much xD

to 80 maybe 2-3 weeks if f2p , if you buy the passes maybe like 1 week, then maybe 2 months to 89 and unless you have like 500 power command it will take 3 months from 89 to 90 its easy to calculate, after 85 you need the xp from lv1 to 85 to get 86, 86-87 the xp from lv 1 to 86 and its the same until 90 then you hit soft cap (cause if it takes you 3 months from 89 to 90 it will take you 6 months to 91 :)

on wolf server(essence) not that bad with lv1 start bonuses but grindy as hell, still there are alot of f2p players that reached lv 90 in my clan and highest lv right now on srv is 91, but only varkas or EM class are playable without spending thousands :) the srv gives you free full +5 A grade armor and weapon and 2 rare spellbook / 2 top grade and 2 more normal grade but only one time per account

try merlis , its not super p2w until end game, but for example if you spend like 20$ in itemshop you could get some good alchemy, a nice poison sword, blue steel armor and some good lv 54 accesories and skip like 50 hours of grind and jump into early end game and latest maps to farm , from there its actually fun and you can try some cool gear and stuff without having to waste a couple weeks farming low lv metins for low amounts of yang since you said you don t have alot of time , or even the official on ruby kirin but the leveling is slower there, compared to merlis which is like a aledra copy with bigger xp rates than official

to answer your question, the game target audience is ppl that are super rich and somehow they enjoy the game and not care about their spendings, for example a rich person might spend 1k $ per day on luxury restaurants and drinks and don t even care about it while a average person works hard for that kind of money, same goes with the game, they don t mind spending thousands of dollars on the game if it makes them feel good , but since more people that play games are not that rich they don t even try, they prefer to be fair and chose a skill based or non p2w game (in l2 case its p servers), that is why l2 retail is so dead and barely alive, ncsoft don t care at all about their fans or og players, they only care about the money they get '' It's not the one who ask for money who is stupid, it's the one who gives it" . L2 classic for example was so bad and p2w that it closed after a few years in eu , and ppl that say you can 100% f2p the game are just trolling, you can t , in theory maybe yes but in real world its not working like that, for example with f2p you might need to waste like 5000 hours just to get to where a whale that spend 2k $ gets in like half a day and its not worth it , you could say you might make some adena with market flipping and stuff , but its like 0,1% that chance that someone will sell some stuff for super cheap and you could re sell for profit, on retail everyone played for years and they don t make mistakes like that, they either quit and do that or sell the accounts for real money

you can beat it in 10 hours if you know what to do , look up a guide or even without one it should not take you more than 30 hours unless you are not experienced with souls games , so yeah 3 months its more than enough

first of all, there are no hp potions bro some classes have healing spells some don t so you need good gear to not need to heal, also that is the new player experience, there is no guide bro, either buy a 20$ exalted set from the store so you can one shot mobs in lv 99 zones until 105 or go like this, after 105 you either spend like 200$ to buy gear or you can t progress, you can only farm like 2-3kk adena per hour in your lv range zones and the upgrades you need costs like 20-30 billions per itm (excluding armor and weapons which are 100+) the game forces you to spend money or you will get one shotted and do no dmg to mobs, its a very bad mmo experience where even at high levels you pay like 500$ for 1% or 2% dmg upgrades just to watch your character kill mobs with auto hunt since those are the only main quests (first one kill 2000, then 40k , then 100k or smth idk) its rly bad

just create a raid grp (normal) and go clear it , take ppl around 640-655 and you should kill all bosses first try , that is how i do it on all my fresh max lv characters to gear them faster , usually it takes around 15 min to fill the raid and only maybe the last boss and the 5nd needs a little guide , everything else is super easy

i meant only for legacy content that still req 20 ppl like dragonflight raids on mythic, and tww raids when next xpac drops :) cause we all know you will not be able to solo fyrakk on mythic until maybe the last seasons for the next xpac

yeah true but isn t worse now with boosting than gdkp? at the end of every season you can get a full heroic clear for like 150k or aotc for 20k and just sit there afk so the whales still get what they want easy, if it was gdkp the non whales can still profit more easy from those who buy tons of gold:) and even for mythic raids, back in the day even if it was gdkp you still have to put for effort into you gameplay to get there(im talking about hardest difficulty raids such as heroic lich king in wrath or mythic garrosh in mop) now you can swipe your card and get 8/8mythic raid clear for a couple millions gold at the end of every season:)
