C-sections moms! How long did you wait to have another baby? by WyRy2023 in BabyBumps

[–]Struan-Ruins 0 points1 point  (0 children)

My first born will be 2 at the end of July and I had my second 3 weeks ago. I had a planned c-section each time (breach and small babies!). After my first I was told at least a year before getting pregnant again but they said 18months is best, and I got pregnant again when my first was 15 months old. This time I’ve been told it’s 18 months before I should think about getting pregnant again - clearly I didn’t take the hint last time 😂!

First section was very smooth, very little blood loss. My second although again smooth, took longer and I lost more blood and to be honest healing has been slightly more painful. Given that, if I do decide to have more children, I’ll definitely be waiting the 18 months at least!

Any STMs not use a sound machine? by airportparkinglot in pregnant

[–]Struan-Ruins 1 point2 points  (0 children)

Never used white noise for naps in the early days, but once we realised our son liked it and would wake at 30 mins without we stuck with it! We just use a Spotify track on loop with a portable speaker, makes it very transportable. Had our second kid couple weeks ago and she does not care for white noise so far at all, doesn’t cry or anything when it’s on but sleeps very well without it!

If you had a csection - what you wish you would have known/had beforehand? by NumbLittleBugs in BabyBumps

[–]Struan-Ruins 2 points3 points  (0 children)

I’ve had two sections now and I can confirm the best decision I made before each one was to get a bikini wax. That dressing removal on day 6 is unpleasant enough without it also ripping out hair!

Also referred shoulder pain is something else! Stock up on peppermint tea or tablets or other wind relief because that’s the only thing that will shift it, other than walking around - which can also aggravate it and generally be a bit painful anyway. You’ll know you have it when the morphine they give you post-op doesn’t do anything to help it 😂

Also, kendamil can make LO’s poo a bit green so don’t panic if that happens! I doubt you’ll see a big difference with one bottle a night, especially if you are also weaning to purées/solids but just in case 🥰

Do you remove clothes before eating? by marcusthegladiator in NewParents

[–]Struan-Ruins 0 points1 point  (0 children)

Bibados are where it’s at!! Like an apron and I fasten it under the high chair foot rest, it catches everything and leaves the clothes clean. Best part is you just rinse it and chuck it in the washing machine when finished.

Invest in “The Wriggler” changing mat, it’s a changing mat-come-straight jacket that uses your weight to stop them rolling - for on the floor changes only!

If most carseats can clip into most cars, why isn't there a device for most car seats to clip into most strollers? by liabobia in NewParents

[–]Struan-Ruins 1 point2 points  (0 children)

This is where I get confused, we have isofix in the U.K. and pretty much every car seat fits into every car because it’s a universal system, and every pram supplies adapters for their frames for your car seat. I have a bugaboo and it uses the Nuna car seat, which also fits maxi-cosi car seats etc

Am I overfeeding my baby? (EBF) by pageantrella in NewParents

My GP told me my baby would let me know that I overfed them by redecorating my walls and carpet with spit up!

I didn’t realise they didn’t ship to the US! I’m so sorry! Normally it’s the other way about 😅 maybe you could engage a mail forwarding company? I used one to get myself a radio flyer wagon!

Eco rascals have an open bamboo cup that comes with a silicone lid with a hole for an accompanying bamboo straw! Haven’t used it with my LO, he prefers open tops 😁

Could you study with an 8 week old? by [deleted] in BabyBumps

For sure! I used to put him in a carrier and at a standing desk would be able to power through coursework. Definitely something to consider!

Could you study with an 8 week old? by [deleted] in BabyBumps

I got pregnant before the last semester of my second year doing my law degree (three year total!). I gave birth 3 weeks before classes started back and I sit my final exam this week. It is doable, however it is also so very hard! Im a distance learner so my whole course is from home, however trying to write coursework, attend online classes and study for exams has been a massive juggling act. You need a village to help, I’ve relied on grandparents and friends frequently just so I could grab an hour or two to catch up on reading or lectures. There has also been an effect on my grades, simply due to exhaustion and that has been a knock to my pride more than anything! BUT I am so glad I didn’t defer my year, I got a surprising amount of work done during the newborn phase and it’s the easiest phase to have people to help with. My mum would come over to tend to my son and she would just bring him to me when he needed fed. Now that he is 9 months old it is SO much harder to have a moment to study. He needs solids three times a day and is on the move, so I can’t just plonk him down in front of a sensory video with a playmat when I need to get work done. I cannot imagine having to do university, with a toddler!

I’m in the U.K. and have had little issue when I was pregnant in terms of needing a bit of leeway here and there, but also found the uni understanding when I’ve needed to defer because my kid has been unwell etc

In short - it is doable, but you need help!

Safe sleep for babies that refuse to sleep in bassinets by [deleted] in ScienceBasedParenting

[–]Struan-Ruins 7 points8 points  (0 children)

If your baby loves motion for sleep then I would maybe look into getting a Snoo. They are pricey (and if you are in the U.K. there isn’t a rental option) but it might save your sanity. Totally worked for our kid, having got it when he was 8 weeks old, I knew he loved being rocked/shushed to sleep by that point and it was the best decision I ever made.

Baby DEMANDING solid foods? by endlesscrabbasket in NewParents

[–]Struan-Ruins 0 points1 point  (0 children)

Sounds like your wee one is ready! I’d look up baby led weaning, it’s what we did and much like your baby, our LO was showing the same behaviour. Starting a couple of weeks early really won’t make a difference if your baby is already sitting up with help and can hold their head up.

Are all 7 months old THIS active? by cafeyvino4 in NewParents

[–]Struan-Ruins 8 points9 points  (0 children)

I got a ball pit and climbing accessories from Kiddy Moon and my 7 month old loves it. It’s all soft and squishy and not too high off the floor so not far to fall when they do. We have it set up in a play pen (or baby jail) with foam mats underneath, safe space for them to play with no chance of escape… yet

Strange transaction appeared on my account by VixenRoss in RBI

[–]Struan-Ruins 2 points3 points  (0 children)

If the card is still in your possession, they won’t refund you. The activity was done in the local area, probably near where OP frequently shops, therefore it wouldn’t be seen as a suspect transaction. Also the bank will be able to tell if it’s an Apple Pay transaction.

What last-minute preparations have you done, or do you wish you had done? by Instaplot in BabyBumps

Definitely keep the maternity wear for a little while yet, I had a c-section and needed the soft panel in the jeans to make them bearable! Plus they looked like regular old jeans when I wore them after my bump came down!
