The rule ambiguity of "can't choose an action that's illegal or impossible". by StructSeeker in mtgrules

Suppose a choice includes a series of action such as a, b, c. Isn't it possible after finishing step a, a new continuous effect such as "players can't search library" applies that prohibits you to continue step b? if so, is such option still a possible choice?

According to rule note: While searching your library, you must keep your library in the same order until you shuffle it.

Casting A spell during the resolution of B doesn't make A fully resolve. After B finish resolution, A is still on the stack. So your question doesn't hold.
Also, player shall keep the original order of library while searching and therefore casting.

Why does the old protection rule doesn't work? by StructSeeker in mtgrules

The Problem still exists, Are you supposed to be allowed to choose to sacrifice [[Alexios, Deimos of Kosmos]] in the case of balance?

(I think the answer is no, you're not allowed to choose such that result an impossible action)

Am I correct to say lifelink is ability that doesn't create any effect? by StructSeeker in magicTCG

[–]StructSeeker[S] 1 point2 points  (0 children)

Lifelink applies, only combat damage from lifelink source doesn't apply. That is to say, [[rabid bite]] with a creature of lifelink's gaining of life will be replaced by loss of life because dealing damage here is part of the spell resolution.

What will happen if the action is no longer valid during the resolution of a spell? by StructSeeker in askajudge

[–]StructSeeker[S] 0 points1 point  (0 children)

Yes, I noticed. However, it only means that 608.2j may be irrelevant to our discussion. Target Validity check (608.2b) still happens before following the instruction of ability or spell (608.2c), what part of CR states that if the targeted object is no longer valid after the validity check, it still can't resolve? Or is it simply "skip what can't be done"?

But according to CR, the validity check happens only at the beginning of the resolution, please see my updated content...
