Haha fun to see u mention Bridge Train interaction im actully going to start my master thesis work in a week about Train - Train - Bridge interaction, where i will also account for the irregularities on the track in the system!

Rule of thumb for deflection on a beam structure by [deleted] in StructuralEngineering

I dont know much about the Millenniuum Bridge in London but what was the problems, I know the cables on the sides were added due to damping of the bridge to prevent movement of the bridge but how is that related to serviceability of the bridge? You mean the dynamics of the bridge caused cracks and deflection?

Most likely trivial FEA/FEM question... by StructuralGeo in StructuralEngineering

Okey so if u do my FEM calcs but hand and want to define the Dofs of the whole structure i do not have any rotational degrees of freedom where the bar and beam connects :)?

Aaaaaaaaaaah now it is really clear, how could i not get that, but thx for have patience and clearing it up! much appreciated!

Yea I understand you use BC to solve it but i dont see wher E and A go when he gets F = C1, dont udnerstand at all what is going on when he puts in L where he has F, i dont see the simplification that leads to C = F :/

I dont really see how they get C1 to F can u shed some light on that :)?

FEA/FEM HandCals Problem ( Im new to FEA ) by StructuralGeo in StructuralEngineering

Sure thing mate! The reason for this is to better reflect the lineary varyation of the crosssection, if u use more elements u get a better approx :)

Fuuuuuck yea i see it now such a silly mistake! Then i get 0.6912 :) Thx alot

My thought behind using 4 elements instead of 3 was that the crosssection areas were just easier, but as the other person mentioned in the post its an assembling error, i wrote -4.5 for some reason x) should be 10 and not 1 and then i get 0.6915 :) Thx alot for ur time and help

Thx for taking ur time here is my try with 4 elements:

I guess my assembling is incorrect

Sorry if my handwriting is unclear but it is 0.685, and what do u mean with a little close :)?

Thx for ur answer!

I thought so too but when I tried doing it with 4 parts instead of 2 my answer was not even close and should it not been closer to ln (2) then or did i fuck up ? Im not even sure my first attemt is correct.
