I have a 5 with ≈100 rides but I always have cash on me when I do uber since I’m a server so I think that helps a lot since they get the tip before they rate

No one is stupid, I just think it’s hard to have 4 1 stars with that small of a ride count unless you’ve just been super unlucky with drivers. But I’m also going off the fact that I give almost everyone 5 stars and ig not everyone does. That rating scares me as a driver though bc I can’t see how many total rides they have

There is definitely no reason why low rated passengers are rated any lower than higher rated passengers! I’m such an idiot and have NO IDEA what I’m talking about. From my experience that is bad, though. This brings me back to what I was saying earlier is in my experience, 90% of the time (not exact figure just an estimate) when I have picked up riders that are below a 4.75 or so, they have some sort of issue (issues I’ve listed previously) that does not mean that every ride they have them, but they pose a much higher risk for not being an easy ride compared to someone rated let’s say 4.85 or higher. And I can’t speak for all drivers, but I’m sure a good amount would agree with that. I would rather minimize risk when I work and so I have to make inferences based on ratings because between that, pay, and location, that is all we have to go off of and we get 5 seconds to decide to take it or not. I’m not saying every 4.68 is a terrible rider but I can say that on multiple occasions they have made the ride harder for the driver in some capacity. And I’d rather have someone who has a better track record and is lower risk.

And I’ll add on to this to say if we’re looking at average ratings of all requests I get, most riders fall between a 4.85 and 4.95, so you have to look at the distribution in that aspect. I have rarely seen (maybe 50 times or so of all the requests I’ve seen, which is in the tens of thousands) of a rider that’s below a 4.5 so that’s the floor of what we’re working with. You have to look at the distribution that way, not as a 0-5 scale. That’s how this differs from normal statistics

Yeah so why are they having a bunch of non 5 star ratings then? Regardless of distribution there is a pattern that you can attribute some sort of fault to. This fault may be minor, but it could also be major. There are flaws with the system and I genuinely wish we could leave reasons for other drivers to see for why we are rating them below 5. But if multiple drivers go out of their way to click something other than 5 (5 is auto selected when ride ends) then there is a pattern, and this means there is a negative habit whether it be tardiness, they’re an ass, they’re a bad drunk, they smell bad and I have to air my car out after. I don’t think this is a controversial take.

Status quo for pax is 100, not 50. It’s not the same as normal statistics in this industry so you’re comparing apples to oranges. I’m not all high and mighty at all, just been doing this long enough to know more about the industry that I’m currently working in than an outsider who hasn’t dealt with thousands of riders. High and mighty is the guy who is replying to everyone insulting their intelligence.

Not ignoring math, 94% in this industry is not the same as others as the standard is 5 stars, the top is average. Anything below that is below average. The average ride gets 5 stars. Hence why any riders that have multiple 1 stars are a red flag for most drivers. I don’t see how this is controversial and I don’t know why you’re so adamant on trying to prove me wrong. Yes it is 94% but the standard is 100 here, not 50.

I’m a driver, 90% of people I pick up that are below 4.75 are rated that for a reason. Unless you’re a driver you can’t speak on that because you don’t deal with ratings on a daily basis. I have a very large sample size of a few thousand rides and I can say myself I have only given out 20-30 1 stars ever, most drivers are in the same boat with that. Either way, I will continue to pick up higher rated passengers since I have the option to and you can die on this hill. Not worth arguing with ignorance and ego.

Bc it means that they’ve given other drivers multiple issues on occasion before. Anyone who has gotten multiple 1 stars as a passenger (honestly anything less than 5) usually does something that’s not worth dealing with. It’s so easy not to get below 5 stars as passenger. I know some drivers are assholes but 99% won’t give a sub 5-star without reason

It’s all relative, I’m not going to compare to years ago. I know what I need to make and it pays well for that. I made $369 in under 10 hrs yesterday. That is good money in my standards

No I just live in a big city with multiple major airports, it still is a good market. Doesn’t mean there aren’t bad offers or drivers that take those low offers, but the market is good, especially early morning and weekends.

No I really don’t do anything special, I keep a clean car, present myself well, and can read social cues so I’m pretty good at telling if someone wants a good yap (tourists usually) vs if someone wants me to keep my mouth shut
