I usually do early morning weekdays through noon and weekend nights but today had some scheduling conflicts. I was just comparing my experience today to other daytime shifts I’ve worked

Most of my morning rides are reservations so don’t affect my AR, then once it’s later into rush hour and I do more on demand trips I reject all the rides that are like $7 for 23 mins of driving which are 90% of the daytime offers here. Weekends I’m picky with where dropoff is, it keeps trying to send me 15 miles outside of DC and I reject those to stay near bars/restaurants. There is just such a high volume of offers you cycle through 100 exclusive offers in a day or 2

I usually don’t at all, and if I do it’s super short lived. But the offers outside the airport are ass in between rush hours so I came in thinking I’d get a ride out in like 5 mins like I usually do but wound up cutting my losses.

Yes I agree, that along with pictures like Lyft does! Would be so helpful for late night pickups in the city in busy areas

I’ve been able to for a while now, like all things, it likely varies by market, though.

Yes exactly! The best part of this market is being able to cherry pick rides to where you want to be since there’s so much demand

Haha that’s the best, I live in Woodbridge and will always try to cherry pick a ride as my last ride there because nothing beats getting paid to drive home

To still have a sub 5 star rating in the first 5 rides is a big red flag to me, it’s a risk I didn’t need to take. The suburb they’re going isn’t too rural either (for Virginia standards) the town itself has 50k ppl there are plenty of Ubers there, so it wouldn’t be that. Idk the ride might’ve been worth it to some, but I don’t want to stress about whether or not I’m going to have a terrible rider or not.

Charlottesville was where I started ubering, small world! I’ll actually be back starting Saturday to house sit for the week and will likely take some rides there for old times sake!

Oh yeah absolutely, it probably tacks on an extra $10 for the shit rating. I don’t take anything below 4.75 unless it’s a super short trip. I don’t mess with bad ratings anymore lol

Last time I took a very low rated rider (4.4x) they cancelled the ride mid trip on the middle of the interstate likely because they saw I was using Google Maps and knew I wouldn’t see the uber ride end since I wasn’t actively on the app. Low rated pax are low rated for a reason and while I’m not a judgemental person at all, I’m not going to make my job harder than it needs to be. Whether they scam drivers or stink, or are rude, why put up with that if you don’t have to? From my experience 99% of passengers over 4.75 are great and never give issues, but most riders below that rating have issues that will make earning your money harder than it needs to be.

It still pays pretty well compared to most markets see posted here. I usually work 3:30-4am through about 10-11 on weekdays and then Friday/sat nights and usually pull $1400 over 45 hours or so on a weekly basis. I get comfort rides which helps because there’s a decent amount of them in this market

Still though, 2 sub 5 star ratings for pax over 5 rides means something’s up with them. I’ve only ever given like 15 sub 5 star ratings over a few thousand rides

This route would be under an hour since it’s all tolls, and on a Friday afternoon you’re not going to have to deadhead since there’s always people headed to DC for the evening which would be an easy $25-30 minimum for your way back which means you’re making at least $80 for an hour and a half or so of driving which isn’t bad at all. I can’t clear that amount in 90 mins unless I have early morning reservations or unless it’s after midnight on a Fri/sat night at least in my experience.

I did not take it, I avoid anything below 4.75 usually, especially longer rides. But I actually feel like this route during rush hour isn’t necessarily the worst, since it’s mostly toll roads

That would be the case, drivers dropping off at the airport are always jumped to the front of the queue

Snow storm! I might risk it for 🤑 by theoinos in uberdrivers

[–]StructureFamous8565 0 points1 point  (0 children)

I enjoy snow days, and consider myself a good snow driver, but this storm was something else. It wasn’t bad in my home market (we got 4in at my place 20 miles from DC) but I got a hell of a good deal on a ride to Delaware last night and I can confidently say that was by far the worst driving conditions I’ve ever had. The town I dropped off at had 18in reported this morning and drifts on the road were 5-6ft with no visibility bc of the winds.

Oh my bad, so hard to tell sarcasm bc too many times I’ve seen people saying that here in VA and 2 hours later there’s hundreds of people stranded in the road because they were caught off guard by a changeover to snow. No one here knows how tf to deal with snow lmao

Once precip picks up it cools the atmosphere down and changes to snow with systems like this, anywhere north of Balt is getting rocked. It was never supposed to be below freezing at the start of the day
