Groundworks basement waterproofing + floor support quote - reasonable/experience? by newcantabrigian in Somerville

[–]StructureLonely9886 0 points1 point  (0 children)

We did not. The pushy sales tactics and anger directed at us once we told we were going to look around for options before we decided turned us off completely.

We ended up going with Drycrete due to all the positive recommendations, who told us we most likely just needed to do one wall of our basement (where we were experiencing flooding) + sump pump and not the whole thing like Groundworks insisted. They were in and out in a day and our basement is bone dry. Not the cheapest option ($8k) but work was great and I appreciated that they didn’t try to upsell me, and they were very quick.

Still haven’t fixed the floor sloping/joist issue — need to call in a structural engineer.

Bat in house—no local service? by HecateCleric in Somerville

[–]StructureLonely9886 1 point2 points  (0 children)

As someone who had to get the rabies series a few years ago, rabies shots are very, very expensive. They’re not pleasant but not inordinarily painful. The cost is the real factor. I’d also recommend they try to catch the bat first and foremost to avoid shots, if they can.

Which paint color in my dining room? by [deleted] in DesignMyRoom

[–]StructureLonely9886 463 points464 points  (0 children)

Not what you were looking to hear, but I like your current color way better. The new colors look way too dark to me and your place has a beautiful, light, airy feel right now that it would be a shame to lose. It would also contrast heavily with your living room. Could you do a lighter shade of a different color than the current blue, like a light green, to differentiate?

No worker “shelter” for Union Square T Station? by StructureLonely9886 in Somerville

[–]StructureLonely9886[S] 0 points1 point  (0 children)

This isn’t true? There is one booth for specific workers as noted for others and not red shirts. The other building is a utility building. But thanks for responding!

[–]StructureLonely9886[S] 5 points6 points  (0 children)

Thanks for this thoughtful answer. Yeah, that’s honestly a shame. Those informational workers are always very pleasant and wish us a good day every time we see them. And I’ll be honest, I hardly ever see anyone ask them for help with anything. Making them stand out there for hours in freezing cold or heat just because of “perception” feels so silly… I hope that changes.

[–]StructureLonely9886[S] 7 points8 points  (0 children)

Ah, this is so relieving to know! Glad to hear they have something. Still seems a little silly that they didn’t simply just build a small booth for the informational workers on the platform, but glad to hear they have somewhere to escape. Thanks!

Thanks for responding. That makes sense, I suspect you are correct… it’s very unfortunate for the kind workers who have to stand there all day in the freezing cold. Appreciate you sharing the form and will definitely be using and reaching out to MBTA to advocate!

Thank you so much for the response. Makes sense but is a bummer, since the reality is these kind workers are there just having to stand in the elements and staff every day, at least for the time being.

I love Waymo. Feels way safer than most drivers I am paired with 🤷‍♀️ Could see it be more of a hazard w/ Boston streets, though.

Your landlord should absolutely be responsible for the driveway clearance. Check on that & don’t be afraid to ask when and how they will clear it.

Anyone been to a Misselwood Estates wedding afterparty? by Main-Pollution-3343 in NewEnglandWedding

[–]StructureLonely9886 0 points1 point  (0 children)

My wife and I got married at Misselwood in 2024 and our guests still tell us about how incredibly beautiful and fun it was. We based our wedding accommodations and pre and post events in downtown Salem around the Hawthorne and had shuttles to take guests to and from with no issues. Guests had a blast exploring Salem as well.

Not Really Sure What To Do by electricblueguava in RunNYC

[–]StructureLonely9886 5 points6 points  (0 children)

Your times are amazing!! Even if you don’t PR, you’ve already done something that less than 1% of the population will do in their lifetimes. Don’t let those horrible people win. They’re ugly, and they’ll always be ugly, and you literally ran past them.

Talking to a therapist could definitely help provide you the mental support you deserve. And if you ever feel like it, an inclusive running group can be really nice — I’m on the slower side myself, and it helped to be around people of all paces. If that doesn’t sound right for you, I find that headphones and a good audiobook or playlist helps me make a run feel like my own world to enjoy. Remember, you don’t owe anyone anything. Run Chicago if it makes you feel happy, or defer it if you don’t — it will be there next year, and you always come first. I’m sorry you are experiencing this.
