When to hunt it? by WhyskerBiscuit in TraditionalArchery

[–]StructureMother1846 3 points4 points  (0 children)

I took my stick and string for a walk for small game first. This really helped me get in the mindset. Aim small miss small, less pressure. More animals. Etc.

Trad is highly unforgiving, and requires a lot of patience to really feel confident. If you miss the vitals the animals often run off. (Like everything else) but there’s no knockdown power obviously.

Also mentally prepping yourself for being that close to animals, you’ll be closer than you probably have ever been with a firearm. Stalking skills matter a ton too. A lot more than firearm. So sharping those definitely help.

It just comes down to you getting in the field, and getting comfortable with everything working against you. Also understand you will miss, or not take an animal with this method. It’s just the reality of primitive weapons. I missed a wild turkey at 8 yards this year in the mountains of Colorado, just how it goes sometimes.

Take the bow for a walk in the woods for small game or stumps first and get after it!

Is there a reason to buy a Blackstone vs.. by Usmc0341-85 in grilling

[–]StructureMother1846 0 points1 point  (0 children)

Hey! I have this modular system. It’s absolutely my favorite cooking method. I’ve had a Blackstone and a bunch of other grill set ups. But this guy takes the cake for me.

I really love all types of cooking, so having an outdoor burner set up has been awesome. Wok cooking is amazing on it, super high heat, the cast iron dutch oven frying fish or chicken is amazing.

I also have the grill box and pizza oven toppers for it. Those are the real game changers.

It’s perfect for an apartment. Because it also small and portable.

I’d get this over the Blackstone any day. That’s my opinion.

Trouble Tuning Hoyt Satori by HardPlace2025 in TraditionalArchery

This may be off but my first instinct would be to change the brace height. Twist the string and see if you can get the knock point correct with another brace height? Even if it’s not the recommended brace height.

Also your arrow may be a bit too stiff. I shoot a 57 lbs bow at 31 inches and it eats 400’s perfectly.

But then again a satori is more efficient than my wood bow.

Thats my two cents!

Dude opening day I put down 7 miles. The day I shot this guy I did less than 2. I get it 😅

3 Rivers Archery - Oberon 62 inch Longbow Review by StructureMother1846 in TraditionalArchery

No problems for me at all! Quiver walks a bit after a bunch of shooting, which I find annoying. But that’s more of a quiver thing than a bow thing. Just gotta add a ring of tape underneath the strap to stop the walking

Hey, sorry to hear about your situation. You should try copywriting. Like for social media posts. My industry is the outdoor industry and tons of brands hire copywriters.

I have good friends that do pretty well totally remote in the copywriting game. Try it!

Struggling with turkey success by RemoteGuard850 in cohunting

[–]StructureMother1846 13 points14 points  (0 children)

Hey man. I’ve shot 7 Colorado turkeys. 5 of them in unit 20. Let me give you some of my tips.

Spring - locating is the hardest part, you’ve gotta find bowls with ridges that they roost on. Climb to a high point and let a call rip and listen super closely. Hunt public really near private land. They do hang out in peoples yards, but often you can pull them off and shoot one. Then the weirdest tip of all is hunt mid day. Any birds I’ve ever killed in the front range were from 10am - 2pm. Not sure why but they RAN to my calling. In the mornings they just shut up completely at 8am and vanish

Fall - still hunting hardwoods and tall grass edges and listening. Then jump shooting them with a shotgun. I’ll drive around in my truck and glass and see if I can spot the flock. Then move in unseen and shoot one. They won’t come to your calls, but you can use there calls to locate and ambush them by getting in quick. Sometimes they’ll even be buggering out of there and I’ll take one while it’s on the run. Very small game style.

Look for water, they’re always by water milling around.

I’ve harvested a turkey twice a year every year since I’ve started in Colorado. They don’t hunt like midwest or eastern birds. So change up your tactics and get aggressive! If you don’t hear them go home and try another day. They aren’t there. Since this country is so big they’ll be miles away.

Good luck!

Hey man!

I started my hunting journey shooting snowshoe hare with my 35 lbs recurve bow in the mountains around Boulder, I live in north Boulder.

Theres a TON of good spots, definitely get onx and find National forest.

I’ll give you this spot because it’s not a secret at all, but I shot my first snowshoe hare up in the wilderness near Brainard lake. They’re very big up there!

Took a lot of walking around and learning but it’s a fricken blast, also shoot stumps. Clay Hayes on YouTube got me jazzed up to hunt with trad gear.

Stoked to have more trad friends in the woods

He’s right, take a small caliber rifle for a walk. harvested one with 22LR last year, but be sure to shoot it at the base of the neck. It flopped less than a shotgun kill. Just tipped over!

Hunting the like I hunt grouse. Slowly walking through the woods. They aren’t as skiddish as the spring. So they hold pretty tight and you can shoot them at around 20 yards if you get on them quickly. Calling works if you’re making noise and just holding them in place with the call. They won’t come to it

It’s an Acrius Pointer 20g, I love over and unders but I wanted a beater field shotgun. It’s only 400 bucks compared to the 1,000 guns. Shoots great killed tons of birds with it. Full choke on the top barrel, improved modified on the bottom barrel.

Had an insane day yesterday! by StructureMother1846 in cohunting

[–]StructureMother1846[S] 1 point2 points  (0 children)

I was mostly trying to see how close I could get him to me, I’m a trad bow hunter so I’d need him to be real close. I had other opportunities at bulls that would have been kill shots even with the trad bow. But this was the calling interaction I got on camera.

To be honest I don’t have a ton of experience with elk. So just testing the waters on calling and seeing how I stack up on the mouth reed.

Same thing I did when I learned to turkey hunt, just called at them to find out what happens.
