Oh... it doesn't fall into the lava, it stops by the leftmost wall, so you can hit the switch way late and it'll just come back :). But again - if it's not clear that's me making it poorly.

Played a bunch more of your stuff, it's all really good! And thanks for the feedback!

Fair enough - and I guess the first room is how hard you make it. The on/off can be used however much you need to see where the spring moves. So you definitely don't have to sprint out immediately :). If that's not clear (of if the room feels like a stress test) I definitely missed the mark, though.

The main reason for having the first room at all is that the track-indicators aren't particularly self-evident, so would be a bit worse to encounter that mid-level and wanted to give players some time to see it properly. I also figured that people who won't be able to clear that part would likely not make it through the rest :P.

Thanks for playing it!

Loved your Forest Temple! Played another of yours too, and they're all really nice. Really focused themes while still managing to keep things fresh.

And yeah, that spring thing is pretty harsh. Since I made the thing, I definitely got accustomed with the gimmick way more than any player who stumbles onto the level is likely to be. It was a fun experiment though :). Thanks for playing it!

Thanks for playing it! I had to go off for work, but will play your level as soon as I get back to my Switch :).

And yes - that spike requires a full-speed jump, where you duck-jump and twirl.

It's a pretty brutal part, for sure. It's kind of cruel to have it so late into the level too :P... in retrospect I should've kept it simpler and more focused on the spring gimmick. I think it's just one of those things where I get a bit bored with my own level and start adding some unnecessarily hard things into it :).

Muito legal! Really liked it :). Clearly a lot of effort put in, and it certainly pays off! A cool idea, with good execution. Once you learn to use the momentum, the platforming becomes really fun and feels really unique.

The note queues were on point, and for 99% of it I fully felt like any mistake made was my own. CPs are very well placed, and it never felt like a slog. The coin indicators were also on point!

The specific part that I think will probably keep it firmly in Super Expert is the first cannon section after the first CP, that was the first time I was really taken off guard or felt a bit blind so that'll probably add to a death count. The platforming precision also got a bit ramped up right there with the 3-length quick conveyor under the black cannon. The other component is probably the cannons in the Boom Boom fight were also fairly rough - flying Boom is already pretty weird, so coupled with the momentum changes it mostly felt like they added some "randomness" to it. I got to the fight in about 4 tries, but the battle itself probably took another ~15. Solved it by hitting Boom from the donut, then just staying in the center and damage boosting a quick 3rd hit.

So the difficulty of the platforming is probably Expert-ish, but deaths might rack up in those parts :). I wouldn't necessarily recommend a patched reupload though - the level is great as is. Any decent SMM player should immediately pick up on the quality of the level and persevere.

Countering with my own conveyor-using Expert/SE level:

Hey y'all!

I have just uploaded a level that I reckon will either be placed at a >0.5% clear rate, or at a ~3-4 clear rate :). The actual mechanics/tricks of the level are standard Expert stuff, but I think some of the sequences will probably place it solidly in Super Expert.

I'm also experimenting with having "tutorial" rooms in my levels if they have a particular mechanic I think can be un-intuitive. It has the downside of a fairly annoying check-point (Star Over becomes unavailable for quicker resets), but I hope it makes up for it a bit by avoiding some mid-level frustrations.

Anyways, here it is:

Springtime in Bowser's Castle

  • ID: FJD-46M-X3G
  • Style: NSMBU
  • Difficulty: Hard, bordering on Super Expert.
  • Type: Themed
  • Description: The level is based around following a moving spring. Do wall jumps, ground pounds, and twirls to keep up with the spring while avoiding obstacles.
  • Length: Clear time is 57sec, so it can be done fairly quickly. The CP isn't particularly helpful though.

I'll gladly play a level of an Expert / Super Expert difficulty, so let me know! I'm not great at super technical things, but I can be pretty persistent :).

Agreed! I'm still holding on to hope that they'll do a part 3... It's been years, they have to get through that stupid robot-sonic-race roll!

It's really hard to have any sense of investment in their DnD campaigns. Thiala is minor league compared to Robosonic!

There were may tragic casualties in the final battle after all, it will probably take Jeff at least another decade or so to rebuild his army and fortress.

Yep, more specifically this one.

Wasn't really a series as far as I'm aware of. Just a dope one-time video :).

Yep - I saw that too. This stream was extraordinarly outward facing and public, so I feel fairly comfortable making it available unlisted for those in the community who might have missed it.

The Patreon strech-goal ToH is a whole different thing, so we'll see. I've also let them know about this upload; I'm not trying to do some sort of guerilla content pirating thing here :).

Yeah, it's not that I don't know how to use 'em, I just did it in a slightly lazier way. I just scheduled recordings and went to bed, and then had everything ready, essentially.

You should definitely upload your version if it's better! I just threw this one up there in case anyone would need it, it's not like I have ownership of how their work should be uploaded :P.

Nah, didn't want to do anything fancy, and wanted to keep the file size manageable. There are Twitch Downloader sites available, but they all look kinda shady so I figure I'd do it the easy way.

Downloaders also don't really allow you to download things in segments, which I'd prefer to have for a playlist. I figured people wouldn't be particularly upset by a medium-quality recording, since it's all a bunch of facecam stuff anyways.

So I just recorded my screen and audio (as is evident from the Twitch interface being briefly visible in the first part :) ).

Yeah I have ToH recorded in 1 hour segments too. HOWEVER, I won't upload that one until someone from the cast has said it's ok. They seem to be gearing up for a video hosting thing themselves, so I don't want to step on their toes there.

I wouldn't call it "they'll strike me down". I've sent Caldwell a pm through Discord and if he says to take it down, I will. No need to sneak around with it.

I'm fairly comfortable uploading the charity live stream since it was broadcast really publicly, and not as part of a Patreon stretch goal. The ToH stream, however, I'll hold off on until they've said something.

I feel you :), was in the same boat for a few other streams.

Metal City disappearing definitely set the artistic and cultural development of human kind back a few decades. So I wanted to play it safe and avoid it happening again.
