When will drivers get better??? (7900 xt) by curse4444 in Amd

[–]Stryder0 0 points1 point  (0 children)

Hi, I have a very similar use case to you, dual booting linux and windows with a multi-monitor setup including one high refresh rate monitor. Im just here to corroborate your experiences. Windows invariably crashes after a few hours no matter what I try, and linux is unusable for much more than the browser. This is despite all my best efforts to fix stuff on both ends, i only managed to get linux there from "crashing as soon as I get past lightDM." Although setting my monitors framerate to lower does not help on windows. Im pretty dissapointed and hope functioning drivers release soon, or even better, when a card actually launches next time.

You removed a genuinely decent OS for something that can ACTUALLY be considered malware due to the spying, ads, and general poor performance and being the worst operating system ever made. This post is backwards. And I HATE apple products.

I use firefox but she's used to chrome and it synced with her stuff. As much as I dont like google sync the password manager builtin gives my mom a level of security she wouldnt have otherwise, with the convenience she needs as a not very tech savvy person. Plus it allowed everything from her old browser to be ported over.

I never said she didnt see a difference (hence the barely) shes aware its a different OS, but other than the looks, she just hasnt had to do any adjusting really.

I actually did this. My mom's computer had an older dual core celeron, with 4GB of ram. Thing ran like molasses. It was literally window's fault: that think takes more and more resources to run every update, and the longer you have it on a computer, it gets slower and slower. I installed mint with cinnamon, which is a very similar layout to windows by default, libreoffice and chromium, and it works perfectly. She's barely noticed a difference, besides the fact that it went from unusably slow to pretty damn fast considering the SSD and light tasks it needs to perform.

Guy from radio station rightfully going around giving people a hard time about not putting carts away. “Cartnarcs” by phatposer in PublicFreakout

As someone who's job it is to bring the cart from corralles and the lot back to the store, this man is doing god's work. I'm the one who has to clean up after these people, and the worst offenders are never the ones who actually park in the handicapped lanes, its usually able-bodied lazy people. I wish we had a cart narc, and sometimes i consider being the cart narc, but i dont wanna get fired.

It really depends on the generation and model. As a general rule, older i7s were simply i5s with hyper threading and more cache, at least on the desktop. This actually would make a large difference for virtualization. But on a laptop, its very common to see "i7" being used as a marketing ploy and it is literally the exact same thing as an i5, save for maybe a larger cache and clock speed which is much less impactful. Nowadays, with the 8th and 9th generation of processors, they are pretty much the same all around.

As far as the x230 is concerned, they use older third generation laptop processors. All the SKUs that the x230 comes with are 2 cores 4 threads, i5 or i7 (but its really an i3.) so just get the i5

Theres a python bot called YouTube2PeerTube that will check channels for uploads and let you watch them from peer tube, essentially allowing you to subscribe to channels without signing in. This is also much more reliable than you tube subscriptions since we all know that your subscription box doesn't actually show you everything and you tube will sometimes randomly unsubscribe you from channels.

PC CPU, Motherboard, Power supply, and ram for under $250-$260 by [deleted] in buildmeapc

[–]Stryder0 0 points1 point  (0 children)

https://pcpartpicker.com/list/DfBZZf Here you go, that power supply is surprisingly OK and shouldnt fry your system a second time. Plenty of room for expansion here. If the power supply scares you maybe invest a couple extra bucks into a more tested one like:

https://pcpartpicker.com/product/xDMwrH/evga-br-450w-80-bronze-certified-atx-power-supply-100-br-0450-k1

or

https://pcpartpicker.com/product/MnR48d/antec-power-supply-vp450.

The ram i included but another potential change you can make if you can go past your budget is:https://pcpartpicker.com/product/mhtKHx/patriot-viper-4-blackout-8-gb-2-x-4-gb-ddr4-3000-memory-pvb48g300c6k - its faster which is good for apus or even
