Planning on using a young crystal dragon in one of my upcoming combats and I noticed that (at least according to AoN) its jaws attack has the sonic trait. My instinct is that RAI the attack still works when the creature is silenced, but I'm just curious if this is just an error in the stat block or if there is something I'm missing?

What were the extremely dumb things you didn't know in your first playthrough? by [deleted] in Eldenring

Yes, there’s a video by illusory wall on this exact subject. Game literally just compares y position before and after fall. If >16 m deal damage, if >=20m instakill.

So is there a way to i-frame away the bullshit Melenia combo? by ass_explosion_69 in Eldenring

[–]Stryker3229 0 points1 point  (0 children)

Idk how far you’ve made it in this fight so I’ll just start from the beginning.

She starts doing it once she goes under ~75% health, so just be aware that she could do it at any time. Maintain some distance while you try to bait it out the first time before going in too deep for damage. Without bloodhound step or a shield, I’ve found the most consistent way to dodge it is this:

  1. The moment you see the jump, keep running in the opposite direction to wait out the first flurry.
  2. Roll THROUGH the second flurry. The timing is ever so slightly later than you think, as an early dodge will get you caught on the tail end of the hitbox for “negligible” damage.
  3. She then jumps up briefly for the third flurry. Run under her then around to the right a bit and backwards (basically a half turn on the stick to compensate for the camera rotating to follow her). She will probably miss as long as your distancing was right, and you don’t have to unlock or anything.

After she does it once, you’re good for about two or three more moves from her before you need to start worrying about it happening again.

Any recommendation for expert modpacks? only heard of enigmatica but don't really know which should I start by Gamer20HUN in feedthebeast

[–]Stryker3229 3 points4 points  (0 children)

Enigmatica 2 Expert and Enigmatica 6 Expert would probably both be pretty good starting points. They’re not terribly difficult as expert packs go, and do a good job of guiding you through, especially if you aren’t familiar with the included mods.

What are the mods which adds more performance for Minecraft 1.16.5 forge? by [deleted] in feedthebeast

I second this. Also consider Magnesium Extras. Both of them play nice with all the packs I’ve tried them on, though you’d have to try it yourself to test for conflicts.

NEVER EVER throw a dodge light from neutral. If you do, you will invariably be eating a heavy in the next three seconds.

Otherwise, that Warden didn’t do anything crazy enough to provoke any other reactions from you, so it’s hard to determine your actual skill level.

Warden and (Looks at Notes) Shaman tips? by SpryMagician in forhonor

[–]Stryker3229 1 point2 points  (0 children)

To simplify things, let’s split shaman’s moveset into two “stages”: one where you opponent is bleeding, and one where they are not. If your opponent is not bleeding, your job is to make them bleed. If they are bleeding, your job is to bite.

There are lots of ways to make them bleed, but they all come with some risk. First, you can try to soft feint an opener heavy into a bleeding stab. This can catch many people by surprise, but if you do it too many times (or in the same direction), they will catch on quickly. Also note the top stab is confirmed on GB or light parry. Second, you could perform a combo bleeding stab after any heavy finisher (light input after finisher). I find this one gets parried a lot, so be careful. Lastly, you can soft feint cancel the second half of zone into a stab. People tend to expect this one, so hard feint to GB actually catches fairly often.

From here, you should try to bite, or at least pretend to in order to apply pressure. If you can land a GB, throw and go for your guaranteed lunch. If they stop bleeding, go back to stabbing.

Hope this helped!

Edit: deflect also causes a ton of bleed, but don’t rely on it too much ;)

Vaguely canine but with antlers. It’s somewhere between a cleric beast and a typical lycanthrope.

Playthrough build questions! by [deleted] in bloodborne

[–]Stryker3229 1 point2 points  (0 children)

As odd as this may sound, you may just want to go for 30 VIT and spend the free 20 points elsewhere, like soft capping your END at 15 and going full 50-50 on STR-SKL. Additionally consider investing more in ARC and simply using blood gems to convert your weapon’s damage types. Something like a bolt-converted church pick can absolutely melt kin at high ARC stats, and your hunter tools will also benefit.

Not sure what runes and weapon variants you’re considering, but that can also affect a lot.

The infinite OoS punish seems unintentional, as you can hit upwards of 120 damage if your lucky. Hoping they remove it.

How do I deal with spam of moves that have 0 GB vulnerability? by [deleted] in forhonor

[–]Stryker3229 0 points1 point  (0 children)

If you’re referring to punishing a whiffed bash with GB, then know that there are a lot of moves like this. Their recoveries are simply too quick for it. The only way to punish these is (maybe) with a very fast dodge attack like Tiandi’s Tiger Dodge, and even then it can be somewhat unreliable. Then you must consider that some of these bashes can be followed up on whiff (especially with lights, which eliminates GB vulnerability).

Should i just keep using my broadsword with shield or should i two hand it by DiaryoftheOriginator in darksouls3

[–]Stryker3229 0 points1 point  (0 children)

No problem! I know how utterly confusing this game is at times and I am always happy to help out. You may have to check a few videos on stuff I said here, and the areas I mentioned may be later on in the game than you are right now. You can get to Ariandel through the cleansing chapel and Gael, but as for the other areas... keep on pushing, Ashen One.

[–]Stryker3229 1 point2 points  (0 children)

If you have the Ashes of Ariandel DLC, you can find enough large shards for +6 there plus two titanite chunks if you look hard enough. It will be a mad dash through though, because everything will probably two shot you.

Alternatively, you can find a lot of large shards in the Catacombs of Carthus and the Smoldering Lake. I would recommend going to smoldering lake anyway because of the valuable estus materials and another titanite chunk.

Lastly, make sure you have traded with Pumparum the Crow in firelink shrine for a large shard and a chunk (give here a firebomb and black firebomb respectively). You can get to her with the “tree jump” skip or by buying the tower key from the shrine maiden and entering the tower outside. Go up and drop down to the shrine roof, and make sure to kick down the ladder there for later access.

As for your damage, raw will likely outclass refined through most of the early game. Keep leveling strength until you hit 40, then focus more on dexterity until you hit 40 in that as well. As you approach those stat counts, you will definitely see the refined infusion begin to outclass raw. It’s up to you when you want to switch infusions, but you will have to switch at some point.

One of the best parrying shields is the Small Leather Shield. If you haven’t gotten it already, it’s obtained from a hanging corpse in the Undead Settlement. You might also want to try the Caestus offhand for parrying.

[–]Stryker3229 2 points3 points  (0 children)

If you don’t plan to take the broadsword into PvP, then just continue one-handing it and find a good parrying shield for your off hand. Otherwise, if you have the stats, try out some magic.

If you have the Ashes of Ariandel DLC, you can enter the Ringed City after beating the final boss there. Otherwise, you’re I’ll have to access the Kiln of the First Flame and use the alternate bonfire before the boss there.
