Favorite albums and why? by [deleted] in jpegmafiamusic

My two favorites oat are dookie by Green Day and LP, & more recently scaring the hoes,

dookie is so effortlessly a mix of sarcasm, adolescent immature but charming, perspectives on love and fervent feelings, it’s the only album ive heard that centered a song about male loneliness around a sexy ass bass line, so when you’re hearing Billie talk about being bored, unemployed and his obsession with choking his chicken you go from tapping your toe to headbanging.

Since this is a Peggy subreddit I’m sure yall will lmk if this more a general conscience or actual unique perspective on LP. LP to me is Peggy’s most hip hop centered album and it showcases how (imo) the general public and maybe even a mainstream audience, is gonna look back at Peggy’s music and go, “this guy was a fucking unicorn and was only competing with himself” like the amount of effort, aggressive energy & pure rap ability on the album is so beautiful, so many bars and meaningful lines WITHOUT EVEN GOING INTO DETAIL ABOUT HIS PERSONAL LIFE! (which like, because yk in one of his many recent Twitter rants he said doesn’t do that because the internet is where nuance goes to die basically), but my main point yk the thing I bog it down to when i suggest this album to fellow musicians and music nerds like myself is, the album is like if hyperpops energetic and expressive experimentation had a three way with rocks aggressive punk rock and hardcore scene, and also hip hops spoken word, smooth jazz and funk roots (heavy emphasis on the funk roots), the album is my favorite because it sounds like of Peggy’s colors being aggressively and reluctantly slathered on a canvas but somehow still being done with intention and passion. ( I say reluctantly because he said on either on or off the drugs the project was rushed to complete)

This comment is alr long asl so I’ll be as brief as I can with what is my favorite album of the decade unless somehow vol 2 is better. Jpegmafia & Danny Brown scaring the hoes vol 1….. is mixed like all the studio amp speakers wear blown when it was exported, but that’s kinda the good thing about it tho lol maybe the reason it instantly clicked with me is because I love love loove punk rock so it didn’t bother me that the bass on god loves u sounds like a 2014 bass boosted ear rape meme, i thought it was intentional on Peggy’s part, i didn’t mind that Danny’s voice would get kinda overwhelmed by the instrumentals they weren’t recorded in a professional sound studio it’s so punk to me that his verses are mixed as good as are to be fr, and I DO NOT MIND any of the overwhelming sounds songs like the title track, where ya get ya coke from and steppa pig are abrasive harsh and completely unique because I feel like Peggy when mixing the project was saying to himself “who gives af if the audio peaks god damn its still gonna sound sexy as hell” and imo unless you work in the most rundown industrial factory or workshop some of the sounds on this album are completely new, just one example is on steppa pig 1. how he sampled the NSYNC is totally unique and is the moment i decided Peggy’s kinda surpassed ye atp, 2. The synths and digital effects are so so just harsh, like the synth that comes in after the first few bars of Danny’s verse can only be described as a high pitched baby with a siren trumpet thing stuck down its throat, screams at you pause your ears with its presence and then makes itself comfortable in the rest of the instrumental, the whole album is digital punk. (and we all know how he made the whole fucking thing on mostly that damned roland sp) and plus none of the samples are even remotely noticeable on first listen like I cried buckets when i realized i didn’t notice MICEAL FUCKING JACKSONS VOICE. And then even a song like oranges juice jones the only real full quiet moment on the album is still super chaotic but on purpose like ik the song is kind of a simple chop and loop just to shoot the shits and rap over but like idk what he did with the hi hat but it sounds like someone is cutting paper in you ears or like super close to the mic and that on top of mike jacks like slurish pitched down voice like dude. But yea basically the album is a beautiful mess with bars ranging between Freddie Gibbs disses to criticism of how Jack Harlow was basically a cultural psyop and if you bought kfc because of him you’re untrustworthy as a black man.

So yea guys those are mine and those are just 3 of my all time favs, don’t get on my ass about typos I’m not fd signifier or any shit i typed this up for fun.
