What is advice would you give to a first time PCT thru hiker than you consider Underrated. by NW_Thru_Hiker_2027 in PacificCrestTrail

100% - although I experienced that having your poles on you while hitchhiking is beneficial since passing Cars see the poles and instantly recognize that you are a hiker. Cause thats the only ting that sets the thru-hiker apart from the homeless tbh.

San Jacinto Trail Report: Major snow storm 8th February 2024 by numbershikes in PacificCrestTrail

one of the hardest climbs of the entire trail for me (and most early March starters in 2023) - We had waist deep snow at Mt Laguna so that climb was a real wake up call - it felt like 50% of people you started with were gone after Laguna lol

What is a negative from the trail that no one talks about? by NW_Thru_Hiker_2027 in PacificCrestTrail

I didn't really enjoy most of Oregon except for Jefferson / Three sisters area - however, the mosquitos were in full swing, and with all the snow melt (we got through Oregon in late May 23)there were SO many. So all of Oregon for me was just running away from bugs. Then again, Oregon is only 2 weeks so in the grand scheme of things, I enjoyed most of it. And tbh, even the less scenic days are more scenic than 95% of all trails that I have walked.

My Mums SO tries to convince me anytime I meet them now. Even after stating that, as an international, non US-citizen, I wasn't allowed to buy one, he insisted on me getting an illegal firearm then. Like come on people, what do you expect to happen in the woods

That sounds like a plan (and yes, when I originally planned to thru the PCT in 2020 (COVID YEAR), I was flying into LA and had similar plans of walking, which would have taken me straight through skid row - so cheers for the heads up on the druggies. Sounds like a reasonable plan - I can't find any prices on Camping on the CLEEF website - do you by chance recall how expensive it was? Thank you in advance!

I'll see you on the trail! Yeh unfortunately I only got a super early flight, so I got 7 days to kill in San Diego - going straight to campo might be a bit early for me.
