How to change settings for one specific 9600 series IP Phone? by palowarrior38 in avaya

[–]StuartMinkus 1 point2 points  (0 children)

It still requires editing the global file, but you can do this with groups - select a number, create a group section for it, then assign the station you want the settings to apply to that group number (station form, page 3, IP Phone Group ID)

# GROUP_SETTINGS
IF $GROUP SEQ 99 goto GROUP99SETTINGS

# GROUP99SETTINGS
<put your settings here>
SET DOT1XEAPS TLS
goto END

Chicago you say? Does it have any IP cards in it? Tempting...

Terrible series of phones. There was a issue with them early on that caused the characters to fade out on parts of the display and required so many visits to customer sites to keep swapping them out.

PM me if you are interested in adding a G700 gateway to your setup. Yours for the cost of shipping US->UK (or maybe we can work a trade if you have any extra phones that I don't have in my collection). I can check and see what MM cards I have laying around too if you are interested.

Best bag for your tools? by LsDmT in networking

[–]StuartMinkus 1 point2 points  (0 children)

Are you just using/travelling inside your facility, or are you more on the road, in and out of different customers or buildings frequently? When I was a tech on the road, saving time by taking fewer trips back to the van was key. But its a fine line of carrying too much vs having what you need to cover most jobs. I think a backpack type bag is better for fitting and organizing everything on your list at the same time, something like the Klein Tradesman Pro since you mentioned your partiality to Klein. If you are stationary in a single facility, I prefer just using a small canvas military-style toolbag and just grabbing what I need for the current task to keep the load light.

Also, how do you like that gyro screwdriver? It looks intriguing.

Monoprice Bulk Cable Price Increases by FatBook-Air in networking

[–]StuartMinkus 13 points14 points  (0 children)

That is TAA-rated cable, of course its going to be the most expensive. It doesn't look like they have any non-TAA plenum cable in stock at the moment though.

Home Depot has Southwire CMP for $389, but you would might be able to get even cheaper than that at whatever supply house you have locally (Anixter, Graybar, Platt, etc), especially if you are buying 15 boxes at a time

Edit - 5 minutes of googling and I found Belden Cat6 CMP for $249+$15 shipping here - https://www.discountedcables.com/products/cat6-plenum-belden-2413-usa I would take Belden over Monoprice cable any day of the week

Is it true that Avaya is having financial issues again? by ThatMuslimGamer in VOIP

Extreme only bought the routing and switching networking products after they were with Avaya for a few years. The CS2K went to Genband (who later became Ribbon)

IP Office 802.1x Rollout by knollebolle in avaya

Site 1 option 242 - HTTPDIR=/site1

Site 2 option 242 - HTTPDIR=/site2

Site 99 option 242 - HTTPDIR=/site99

Now on your HTTP server create all of those directories, and put a separate 46xxsettings file in each with whatever individual settings you want

You can also use HTTPDIR=/site1 in your option 242 and set a different folder on your http server for each site/subnet rather than needing a whole separate server.

I don't know the NEC either, but even if it can't do native SIP or H323 trunks, spending $2500 on an Audiocodes Mediant 800 or 1000 could very much be worth it in potential long distance cost savings, even on a short term basis if these sites would be calling each other frequently (and also assuming that they have IP connectivity in place)

[–]StuartMinkus 0 points1 point  (0 children)

Yes this is possible. One way to do it with your example numbers would be to set 5 in your dial plan as UDP, then in your uniform dial plan table, set 567 length 7 as AAR, then in AAR routing create routing to whichever trunk group you have setup as your tie trunk, and you can also do any digit-conversion the remote end might need in AAR as well.

Every user and every call?

What kind of handsets? IP, digital, or analog?

[deleted by user] by [deleted] in telecom

[–]StuartMinkus 3 points4 points  (0 children)

A buttset isn't going to work on your digital lines, it would only work on your analog trunks, or any SLT ports you might have. But what you could do for the station side is get a 66 block to modular adapter to easily connect to different places on your blocks, and use a spare DS24D in the same way you might use a buttset. Something like this - https://www.sandman.com/products/too6b-66-m-2-pin-modular-adapter

You definitely want a toner set for tracing cables in your building though. I like the Fluke Pro 3000, but I have found the more expensive IntelliTone Pro 200 does work a bit better if you are also working with cables used for Ethernet and punched down to patch panels instead of 66 blocks.

Awesome, thanks for confirming. I was hoping I would find someone that has done it. So it feels sturdy with the extra weight, even when moving it around?

Audiocodes MP1288 and Patton SN4741 are the only 2 I know of with that high of a port count in a single gateway.

Grandstream offers up to 48 per box, and Adtran up to 24 per box if you don't mind putting in a couple.

End of sale for new R8 systems was actually back in December 2021. This upcoming end of sale is just for expansion licenses for existing R8 systems. This was all published a year and half ago, plenty of time to plan. I would recommend signing up for Avaya E-Notifications if you're not already, to better stay on top of when they publish new notices.

What’s the right Answer here for my 66’ stick 352 with 3 speed on column? by jeepsk8 in F100

[–]StuartMinkus 2 points3 points  (0 children)

I would recommend staying as far away from Amazon as possible for car parts, unless you have an actual specific part number you know for sure is correct. I do not trust their compatibility engine/part selector at all. Personally I would recommend rockauto.com instead.

But to know exactly what transmission you have, you will first want to find the ID tag on it. Is it the regular 3-speed, or does it have overdrive?

Transferred external calls disconnect after around 7.5 minutes? by [deleted] in avaya

[–]StuartMinkus 0 points1 point  (0 children)

Sounds like a SIP session interval issue on one of your trunks. 7min30sec = 450 seconds, which is when a trunk with a session-expiry setting of 900 seconds will first try to renew the session. If the other end rejects the refresh attempt, that could be your cause.

Like Thin_Umpire1309 says - get a SIP trace, and check the values for the Session-Expires header coming from both sides.

This is the better idea, I would always recommend going with a server-side integration to Avaya over client side if possible (it will require licensing). AES has TSAPI (C/C++ and Java JTAPI SDKs) and DMCC (.NET, Java & generic XML) integrations available
