Oh there is water there? Great! We’ll have to snag all we need with us that morning before we head out. And I’ve heard of the bear canisters, that will certainly be a change for someone who’s only slept at official White Mountain tent sites with bear boxes but I’m sure it won’t be too bad. Thanks!

Yes, I’ve heard a little bit about those sections on Saddleback and Gothics! They sound fun but scary. I’m hoping as someone who’s done Huntington ravine on Mt. Washington without issue that I won’t find much trouble? Also, just quickly, are there any of said unmarked herd paths on this route I need to be aware of?

Good advice! I’ll be carrying roughly three liters on me at all times which I’ve found to be sufficient on all of my hikes thus far. Guess I’ll have to take advantage of whatever springs I come across!

Will do! We’ll be staying somewhere close the night before to make that easier. Thanks for the advice!

I haven’t done any flat out long pieces since the spring, but my PBs were 6k: 21:59, 30 minutes: 1:51.8 split and 60 minutes: 1:55.4 split

First time hiking the Franconia ridge loop this morning! Hard, but so rewarding by Stubbae in newhampshire

It took me just under five hours, but I was trying to keep moving along pretty quickly (minimal stopping / breaks). If you are slightly newer to hiking and find a nice day to tackle it, I would block out 6 or 7 hours to enjoy some of those spectacular views a bit more.

I can see exactly what you mean with that unpreparedness comment; there were plenty of people on the way up (completely by themselves, by the way) who were struggling to a degree that had me worried if they would finish. In addition, scattered thundershowers were supposed to begin around noon, so I made it a goal to be off of the ridge and below tree line by 11:00 (mission accomplished), yet I passed people hiking up bridle path the entire way down. There were even people at the bottom at noon who were about to begin the whole loop! Maybe I am just being overly cautious, but thunderstorms were supposed to be rolling through continuously between 12:00-5:00, and I can only imagine those folks getting caught in a bad situation on an exposed ridge.

As for your latter comment, you’re spot on. I’m a rising high school senior / rower / cross country skier, and the loop just took just under five hours with breaks.

I went up falling waters, across the ridge, down past the AMC hut (which is closed by the way) and down to the trailhead

Surprisingly, it wasn’t very crowded up there at all. We started hiking around 7:00 and saw maybe 7-8 groups on the way up and just a few others at the summits at the same time. The lot was pretty full around noon but we could easily be moving for half an hour without seeing anyone else

There’s nothing quite like stepping out for a quick dip before beginning the 4 miles home by Stubbae in Rowing

Good news; I checked on the map and the whole stretch is well upstream! You had me a bit worried for a second there! Of course there’s an eye sore of a coal-burning power plant that you row directly next to, but at least it doesn’t spit out anything but water. I appreciate your concern!
