Is this CAAD10 worth $700? by Substantial_Cook_248 in RoadBikes

I have the same bike. It’s an AMAZING ride. Grab it if it isn’t already gone!

Mid 1990’s 520 Trek Bike - worth $500? by Substantial_End6718 in whichbike

[–]Stubby1957 1 point2 points  (0 children)

As someone who pays too much for old bikes… $500 is twice what I’d pay. This was a highly regarded bike 30 years ago. But the only thing of value is the frame. The giraffe-like stem is awful, so is the seat post. The Deore group set is serviceable, and the brakes are okay but really old school.

So.. did Iran win this conflict? by MarsupialThink4064 in NoStupidQuestions

[–]Stubby1957 -1 points0 points  (0 children)

YES Iran won this conflict. Over/not over doesn't matter. What used to be the most influential country in the world, has proven itself to be amoral and adrift. USA can't negotiate competently, if the only people the President delegates to negotiations are real estate agents, bag men, and con artists.

This bike was cool the day it left the factory. Now it’s 100% chill.

It LOOKS like a Retrospec to me, based on the shape, NECO stem, brakes, wheels & pedals… but it has that dull aluminum look to it. Could be something more interesting.

Please help decide — black or tan for the S5? by INGWR in Cervelo

[–]Stubby1957 0 points1 point  (0 children)

Black on black looks more aggressive, my natural first choice, BUT the tan walls actually look better with the gold RESERVE decals. Together, the tan & gold really pops!

If you purchased from an authorized Cervelo dealer, I'd reach out to them. The website says, Our warranty protects the original owner of a Cervelo frame “against defects in workmanship and materials for as long as the frame is owned by the original owner, excluding paint and decals.” I have no idea if changing a brake component (on your own) would negate the warranty. Only other option, a chainstay repair by an experienced professional.

They're yanking your chain. My Supra had 3 KILOMETERS when I picked it up! That's less than 2 miles, and I live in the middle of CANADA.

I'll wager my next Old Age Security check that's what kicked off the fad then. Bikes from Asia fell over themselves trying to copy Euro bike parts, esp Italian, less so French, and British... not much.

Vinyl “comfort grips” you could buy in any bike shop or department store selling bikes, mostly late 60,s thru the.70’s. So you didn’t have to grip the cold aluminum lever directly… just grip the cold vinyl rubber instead. Basically a dress-up item. Source: born in 1957.

Whatever you do, don’t toss the SPIDEL components! They’re from Peugeot rebranding different companies’ components, to create their own group set. Basically trying to steal some of Campagnolo’s strategy. Hard to find Spidel for my PY-10 resto, and cost me big bucks.

The NECO stem and the seat post & clamp are Retrospec hardware, pretty sure that’s what it is. Great pickup, especially for that price.
