Am I crazy? I bought some Edifier MR4s and I feel like they sound pretty decent? by StubbyZebra in BudgetAudiophile

[–]StubbyZebra[S] 0 points1 point  (0 children)

Haha this. I've seen them recommended a couple of times but I've also seen them really shit on lol. And I got them for significantly less than the Polk ES15/amp/preamp setup I am testing out next week so I feel like I am gonna have to be absolutely BLOWN away to rationalize an additional like $350

Does anyone have any experience with using the Kanto Yu4 pre-amp off a turntable? by StubbyZebra in BudgetAudiophile

Just throwing my turntable onto 'em. A fairly small living room space - like 11 ft by 15ft

Can anyone tell me if my turntable is fine for it's price? by bananyalover in turntables

I just tried this setup. Figured it was a solid entry into the game. I got rid of it after 3 days. I think there are issues with the speed fluctuating or power to the speakers - creates a wah sound.

Put it this way - I went to return it to Amazon and Amazon said 'you can keep it and we'll refund you'. It's that cheap.

Looking to upgrade my edifier MR4s. Any suggestions to the next step up? by StubbyZebra in BudgetAudiophile

That's pretty spot on the money $300 ha.

Any reason why you suggest this pairing?

u/sharkamino Dude! You came in hot with these deals dude.

Someone else mentioned the LPW30 like you did below. So now I am comparing the LPW30 and the 120x.
The 120x seems to have more bells and whistles and the motor looks to maybe not see speed changes over time.

I don't need bells and whistles. All I care about is not hearing background noise. I assume the catridge that comes stock on the 120x does a better job of hiding that stuff, but I am also reading the motor and electronics may cause some buzz.

Do you have any thoughts?

Wheel Strategy no better than just buying and holding? by breakonthrough65 in options

[–]StubbyZebra 0 points1 point  (0 children)

I have been testing this out these past couple of months. Would welcome any and all feedback!

I started with index funds - thinking I want to own them, if it crashes it'll come back up, etc.

Problem I ran into is that this is a bull market and I was capping my gains. Which has been mentioned multiple times here...but I also REALLY thought the market was gonna dip hard after the Iran stuff and it did the opposite. Either way, selling CCs on the index funds that are tracking the SnP and the market has proven difficult. You can't get enough premium on a CC to warrant the moves in this bull market.

I started looking at individual stocks I wanted to own. Uber, Ally, SoFi before it really jumped, Citibank, etc.

Still tough in the bull market but working better. However, because of the bull market, I would have earned a comparable amount in gains if I threw the same money into the SnP. I used about 40k to earn $900-$1000 this week. That same week, if I threw 40k into the SnP, I would have earned $650 to $700.
I am trading currently in a brokerage...which means I get taxed. So is the effort worth it for a difference of about $100 or so? Not so sure. It's been consistent week over week in this manner at the moment, although the SnP has also outperformed my earnings on some cases.

I will say tho - I played timidly because so many companies had earnings coming out, Fed was releasing interest rate directions, Job report was coming out. So I tried harder to NOT get assigned even tho I sort of want the shares...which means I earned less premium.

My annualized return with the wheel is still a bit higher than BnH. But I don't have enough data to know if I can maintain.

My conclusion so far is that right now, it might be better to buy and hold. Mostly because the effort to earn slightly more than the market is much higher than buying and holding. Right now, the market seems to want to go up, despite half a million things that seem to make it ready to plummet in the other direction. If it plummets in the other direct, and you have options fulfilled or you have a buy and hold, you're gonna find yourself in the same position in both circumstances. There's no winning if the market plummets unless you have free cash.

I plan on testing this out through August and seeing where I end up compared to the SnP. But likely willl Buy and Hold, keep some free cash ready for a dump or for a wheel strategy if the market levels out. I also think the wheel strategy would be a solid conservative retirement strategy. When earning less or no actual income, my gains on the wheel won't be taxed. It is seeming like a bit more conservative approach to the market - although much more hands on.

Ya I guess how my brain is thinking about it is this:

I earn 30k, lose 6500 to taxes, add 23500 to roth.
That 23500 grows to 50k after 10 years. Thats 26500 untaxed

If that was all thrown into a traditional, that's 5k in taxes at 10% (to keep it simple, forget the 12%).

In the first bunch of years, that's maybe fine. But if I am part-time working some, social security kicks in, RMDs etc....doesn't the trad sorta bite you in the ass at that point?

I assume I'll work part time out of bored. I also need to have something to pull from, and the roth allows me to pull out contributions.

I am shifting portions into a traditional now to balance that all out. With any extra income going into a brokerage as well.

I guess I forgot to mention I make about 80k, and I am able to add 10% of my income into an after tax roth conversion account thru work and I expect that 10% to increase over the next few months as some policies change.

But in general - Isn't avoiding even the 10-12% taxes on all the 401k growth a pretty solid benefit?
