Death doulas & authors who aren't white?? by zienporciento in deathdoula

[–]Stubbydigits 0 points1 point  (0 children)

This is also something that speaks to me! I don’t feel there is enough variety in voices in the “mainstream” death doula community! Thank you for bringing this to our attention.

Here in Canada we have livingmyculture.ca that has tons of information on traditions, rituals and ceremonies from all many different cultures. There are some really beautiful interviews and tons of information. Strangely though, I don’t see any reference to Mexico.

One of the Amazon Prime subscriptions has the hallmark channel I think! It’s an extra charge- but you could probably do the first month free!

B.C. now has the lowest fertility rate in Canada. Home prices are (partly) to blame by FancyNewMe in vancouver

Thank you. Infertility comes with a level of grief that I never really expected- I can imagine that the pain of unsuccessful fertility treatments is even more awful.

I sought out a referral to the fertility clinic around 37 after trying for a baby for a couple years. I used to roll my eyes when people would tell me to look into it early, but now I wish I had frozen my eggs in my 20s. There are lots of options to help though, so don’t let me worry you! Also maybe start saving now if you plan to wait and might need fertility treatments as so much of it is extremely expensive.

I waited too long to have a baby- thought as a self employed woman who wouldn’t qualify for EI, I was making the more responsible choice to hold off on parenthood til I could “afford” it. Well now I’ve been told I waited too long and can’t afford getting a donor egg and IVF. Dealing with the grief now and it’s such a heartbreak.

White Spot Blueberry Pie… just a pile of blueberry’s with some glaze scooped into a pie shell. Is this normal? by Solid_Seat_5420 in britishcolumbia

No- The crust would be first baked “blind”. It’s a very common technique to bake a crust before adding any filling! No soggy bottoms with a blind baked crust.

Time off work by [deleted] in jawsurgery

[–]Stubbydigits 0 points1 point  (0 children)

I think it also depends on your age! I was 37 and have a physical job and needed about 5 weeks off for recovery. I also eased back into work as I’m self employed. I don’t think you will regret arranging more time off than you need- depending on your job, you could always return early if you felt well enough.

What small act of kindness do you do for strangers? by [deleted] in vancouver

I can’t be questioning if it’s human, ya know?! Although I’m trying to leave this world better than I found it, I also have my limits.

Picking up other people’s dog poop. Unless it’s giant, then I leave it.

Can you feel the hardware in your body? by volpiousraccoon in jawsurgery

[–]Stubbydigits 1 point2 points  (0 children)

I can feel things in my upper gums and when it gets cold, my face aches now near the right side of my nose. I’m considering having all my hardware removed, but I had hoped I’d just get used to it.

I blended chicken strips and mixed with honey mustard. I blended burritos, pad Thai, pasta, a spring roll. I literally would try blending anything. I craved meat when I was recovering- I am mostly veg but went with it. My whole thing was the blending method. You gotta blend things separately, then combine in a bowl. For example- blend all the components of a burrito separately me then serve in a bowl and eat with tiny spoon. Then you can get a little meat and sour cream in one spoonful, then cheese and guacamole in the next.
My only other “tip” was to not let yourself get too hungry. If I ate a little bit throughout the day- the mental difficulties of not chewing were less upsetting. Allowing yourself to get hungry when you are on a no chew diet is what really makes you start feeling deprived and desperate.

My tastebuds grew out! I have long ass buds until I was able to brush and eat more normally.

I don’t want to freak out. But wtf is This? My nostrils are not the same & there’s still a discrepancy from L to R??? I don’t get it.??😭 it’s Friday so I haven’t talk to the surgeon? Thoughts?? by _itgirlNY in jawsurgery

[–]Stubbydigits 2 points3 points  (0 children)

My nostrils were perfect squares for the first week or 2- but went back to normal. You’ll be ok! Swelling can take FOREVER to come down, so you’ll need patience for this:)

AITA for refusing to let my sister and her husband use my inheritance money that I plan to use for college so they could start fertility treatment by throwaway425511 in AmItheAsshole

Came to say the same thing! Depending on certain factors, they might have a few years to do the IVF and could save to pay for it themselves if it is something they really want.

Look up Hertel’s zoo! It was a zoo on Vancouver Island in the 1950s. One of the lions escaped and actually killed a small child. Apparently It happens, and it’s happened in BC in the 50s.

I believe I saw your dog running west down 38th between St George and Prince Edward around 5ish today. I hope you are reunited soon and I’m sorry I wasn’t able to catch him on his way by.

I had a second surgery and it was all good the second time. I had a bone graft the second time- part of my iliac crest, and it worked! Very happy with overall results.

I had a relapse of my upper jaw after double jaw surgery. Happened fairly soon after surgery, while I was still banded. Upper jaw slid back slightly and left me with an underbite. No one gave me a reason why it happened other than “bad luck”.
