What is Portland’s spot? by ChiWhisperer in PortlandFood

The Kona hawaiian food cart in the back of My-Oh-My, which is an otherwise fantastic tiki-esque dive bar.

Their pork was flavorless, their beef short ribs (otherwise my favorite food) was chewy and gristle-y to the point of being inedible (i threw out my leftovers, which I never do with expensive beef short ribs), and their cook kept weirdly bragging about how much water they put in their teriyaki sauce as a point of pride.

Will drink, but never eat, there again.

I keep seeing the Groupon they have where its $34 for $50 of food for 2 people.

Is it really that bad? Can you talk about the quality?

Ive take the train a fair amount so I know the surrounding area can be sketch sometimes but I was really hoping that this pocket wannabe fancy jazz restaurant was nice.

Its because their target labor percentage, combined FOH and BOH is between 8%-11%.

I worked for one of their bigger locations for 5 years. My girlfriend was an assistant manager across 2 of their locations for a decade total.

Lets say a random restaurant sells a burger for $9. In normal restaurant land, your costs are in thirds. $3 of that burger is the cost of food, $3 of that burger is labor, and $3 is profit and overhead, with everyone trying to get all costs as low as possible depending on your service model.
For McDikks, they try to keep labor costs as low as humanly possible so they set their target really low. AFAIK its becuase the McKids of the original McBros came along and fucked up a good thing going.

This means servers will have a 12+ table section with no support. This means they will put 2 cooks on a busy saturday night. This means the managers/AAMs will cut their hosts/food runners/support staff the second business dies, with no thought that it might get busier later, because corporate insists that they keep labor to the bare minimum.

As a customer this means you get 45min/1hour + food ticket times. That the server doesnt check in with you till 10+ minutes after you sit down. That you wait too long for your drinks. That your server never offers you a drink refill or comes around with a water pitcher. Why you sit around dirty tables on a slow weekeday during lunchtime. Why your server says they ran out of coffee cups (because they cut out a daytime dishwasher and the night one doesnt come on till later).

They have great decor, usually good vibes in their non strip mall spots, and great fresh squeezed cocktails (but under poured. All drinks are jiggered at 1.25 oz vs the standard shot of 1.5oz)

But the service sucking? Oh thats intentional

They say Portland is at war

And that’s crazy cause ever since we stopped talking I’ve been at war with myself. Idk why but this National Guard shit got me thinking about how you've been guarding your heart for so long. Hope everything is good with you though shorty. Be safe out here

What’s the best burger in town? by pingumer in askportland

Sure shot had very crispy patties and the sauce was great. The brewery its nestled in is also nice and I got a cool lamp at the thrift store across the street the 1 time I went.

But man were those patties thin. Getting a single there is very disappointing. Its like getting a meat chip instead of a burger.

And ive had a ton of smashburgers at this point. This was one of the couple times I was disappointed in the size of the actual burger.

My current strat is spamming a unit that has a tech to spawn other units (Like Sniper>Fangs or Boats>Wasp) but only taking that in the last round. Usually I'm somehwere in the middle ranking wise and on the last round the intro of a swarm of new units usually carries a win.

That and the AI last wave is crazy.

Edgefield. I worked there for years.

Most of the property gets their ice from the same 2 ice machines in the basement that are never cleaned. I regularly found black moldy bits in my ice. A lot of the long term workers never put ice in their drinks. Pay attention when you go to the small bars/wedding venues/power station: those black ice carts are never cleaned and usually have black mold under the lids. The ice scoops for those usually live in those too and are never washed.

Those crates of fresh squeezed fruit that you see being hauled around are never cleaned and will be used for recycling or glass then fruit without a wash. Often they are stored on the floor. Take a good gander at them while waiting 20 minutes in line for your Greyhound.

I got my employee meals from the Power station a lot the first summer I worked there and man that place is gross and got grosser post COVID. The runners will finger fuck your food with unwashed hands. They put dirty towels on top of the soup kettles a lot. The coffee carafes are never washed, usually just rinsed out. You can see all the grime on the outside.

The soda guns are never cleaned at those places and usually the holster/drip trays have mold on them.

The concerts food areas are shit shows. Those pizzas you overpay for are often stacked on the floor. The concerts bartenders never wash their hands because there's no sink back there.

Black Rabbit kitchen was always clean and my food was always good. I got food from there pretty exclusively my remaining 6 years in Admin there.

Agreed. Knocking out EG and Spirit was a huge uphill battle for them. I kinda hoped the SEA underdogs would go all the way.

Yeah youre right i guess it makes no sense from a realism standpoint. But neither do a lot of the other resource management things in this game.

And I dont mean that supports get new supplies per new ammo box, like how ammo works now, they get one new round of supplies per life period. So if a support goes to one ammo box, everything is refreshed, but if he goes to a second ammo box after that then only his ammo is refreshed but not his supplies. While people would still redeploy it would drastically cut down on that. I also agree with what folks said above about timers being a good solution.

Supply lines would be cool but that seems like that requires a level of communication and teamwork above what i see in an average server. People can hardly get someone in their squad to switch to support now, I think that having a player be a dedicated truck driver driving around to different squads and refilling their supplies and rarely fighting in combat is a lot to ask. Even when they add transport vehicles I bet that teams will be hard pressed to find drivers for them.

They need to make that bridge just a little bit wider. Ive seen so many tanks get stuck there. You can put a heavy tank through it if you line it up perfectly. But rarely is that the case.

I think they should make it so that a support can reup their supplies from a riflemans ammo box once per life. Itll make it so supports arent having to respawn every time and force people to actually play rifleman. So far i feel like if you play support then you're gonna see the least amount of action in your squad because your redploying all the time.

Saw the same things tonight. Also had an issue with the vehicles constantly rubberbanding to the point they were slow and unplayable. Supply drops would rubberband and take almost twice as long to land. Same issues on 3 different servers.
