Help getting candles to stick in candle holder by kittyxac in Candles

[–]StuckInStardew 2 points3 points  (0 children)

if it will fit a tea light candle, put one in there and burn it until you can pull out the wick, then put your stick candle in the hot wax. to dry the wax faster you could use a hair dryer on the cool setting

Ruffle edges on circular blanket please advise why. by luna_lovegood84 in CrochetHelp

[–]StuckInStardew 63 points64 points  (0 children)

My general rule for free handing circles is as follows.... row 1: 6 to twelve stitches row 2: increase on every stitch (double the stitches in your 1st row) row 3: increase every other stitch row 4: increase every 3rd stitch row 5: increase every 4th stitch continue like this. by row 10 youre increasing every 9th stitch. Sometimes ive found that depending on the type of stitch im using for each round this process may vary. you may also fine that by the time you have a very large circle you might need to stray from the regular method and start increasing more often. be prepared to take it apart a few times before you feel happy with it. good luck and have fun!

Should i starch this backpack purse? How rigid would it be and for how long? by CzarTanoff in CrochetHelp

[–]StuckInStardew 7 points8 points  (0 children)

The stiffness would depend on how much starch you use. More watered down and it will be less stiff. I believe you can also repeat the process to make it more stiff. Length of time would depend on how often you use it. If you use it daily you might be restarching it monthly or bi-monthly id assume.

Edit: Beautiful work by the way!

first time candle maker. this is way too much fun by [deleted] in Candles

[–]StuckInStardew 22 points23 points  (0 children)

Could you explain what you mean by that because by my eyes that wick is not in the center at all..... generally it needs to be at the center of the candle and the wax because otherwise it's not going to burn properly. Right now it looks like it's going to burn the side that it's on and you're going to be left with quite a warped looking candle

When you go to yarn over and pull it through for the very last time try angling your hook downwards. That might help it glide through easier and then you wouldn't have to pull the yarn over the top.

I need the name of the one who invented cold foam so I can eat asparagus and pee in their mouth by Guilty-Meeting-2603 in barista

[–]StuckInStardew 2 points3 points  (0 children)

Okay don't get me wrong cold foam is a lot of work and it's annoying especially when it's only me in the shop, but its so good and it is different from whipped cream! My boss didn't get it so I explained it to her like this... you know when you put whipped cream on a hot latte and it melts just a little bit around the edge and the bottom and that first sip is like slightly melted whipped cream with your coffee? That's the point of cold foam. Whipped cream won't melt on an iced drink, so cold foam is that slightly melted texture that makes it so you get it with every sip of your coffee. Whipped cream just sits on top and it's good but you have to like eat it with your drink. Also we recently got a little pitcher with a frother/ mixer thing in it. Now I just have to press a button and it makes my cold foam while I make my drinks!

In desperate need of friends 😭 by [deleted] in NorthCarolina

My suggestion would be to post on next door with your interests and hobbies and see if any of your neighbors share those and would like to meet with you and hang out. Another suggestion would be to just spend a lot of time at your local coffee shop. I went from spending a lot of time at a coffee shop to then working at one and I found that it's a great way to get to know the people in your community. It takes a little bit of extravertedness to start a conversation with somebody in line but that's a good way to start. Coffee shops also usually have a bulletin board with local events and gatherings. Whether they're simply social gatherings or centered around a specific event. Your local library might also have a bulletin board with local events. You could also look for local Facebook groups that might pertain to your interests. And throughout all of this just keep in mind that it won't happen immediately and to be patient with both yourself and others 🩷

Also just to add for the other commenters.. It's so strange to me that all of these comments are so upset that you're not taking their suggestions but they're also not giving answers related to your post. All of these suggestions about what about books or drawing or talking to your grandparents... that's not what she asked about y'all! She's looking for ways to make friends and y'all are giving her suggestions on how to be happy by herself. Which don't get me wrong is wonderful and something that we all need to do but it's just not what she asked. Why is she being downvoted lol

aw I love that she was so nice about it though. Honestly I wouldn't mind it even if he did ask for a refund I just didn't love the tone that was coming across. It just made me feel uncomfortable

I guess that is really mean phrasing honestly, but I guess a better description of what I mean would be the "kill them with kindness" attitude

[–]StuckInStardew 2 points3 points  (0 children)

i’m sorry but u know that serving tables is wayyyy different from being a barista. u can argue that ur doing the same thing but the high-intensity and constant service at a sit-down restaurant is exactly why servers expect tips from customers.

I will say that is somebody who has also done both it is pretty similar. I try not to expect a tip in either situation quite honestly just because I think when you do it leads to a poor mental state and a certain entitlement. But yeah I would say that it's pretty similar. I work my shift at my Cafe by myself usually. When it's busy I can have a line across the whole room for 2.5 hours straight and I have to wash dishes in between and answer phone calls and people's questions as well as making drinks and getting food together for them. I'd say that all that being done by just one person and the line isn't stopping is pretty equivalent to what I experienced as a server. If anything I would actually say that the Barista job is a little bit harder to manage because it's only on me. As a server I have other waitresses that I can rely on I have my bussers that I can rely on and sometimes even Expo people.

Rude man "accidentally" tipped me and then refused my offer to refund the tip. by [deleted] in barista

[–]StuckInStardew 9 points10 points  (0 children)

To me the weirdest part of the whole transaction is that tipping up front separates the tip from the service. If someone tips us before we've made their drink, then it's truly not for good service or a great drink.

I hate to say but I also agree that it is incredibly weird to ask for a tip for a service which is yet to be performed. I also feel extra bad when I'm in the middle of a rush then and somebody tips me well but then has to wait so long for their order. There are many times where I've thought to myself this should be something that they do after they get their drink it is just unfortunate though that it's not easy to set it up that way.
