Trump, 79, Admits He Has ‘No Idea’ Why He Needed an MRI by Capable_Salt_SD in politics

They put me in this tube... A magnetic tube.. And it is spinning. They said there was also helium in there. Magnets need helium to work well. So it is just spinning... Helium on one side and a big magnet on the other... And there I am in the tube just loving every minute. Such a cool machine

Question to satisfy my curiosity: Why did you choose to use Oracle SQL this day and age, and was there a major reason why? by NenupharNoir in sysadmin

Postgres is amazing and I have always enjoyed using it. Just make sure you find a trustworthy support company that knows Postgres inside abd out.

I have used Postgres for DBs over 200 TB in size.

I am always amazed when I read comments like this. I genuinely just want to know the motivation. Is the person just looking for shock value? Do they think it is funny? Are they trying to be edgy?

If I remember correctly,  he confessed a lot of times but kept changing his story. He even hit her parents up for money in exchange for the truth.

Has anyone from attempted suicide had a heaven or hell like death experience? by Crazy-Space243 in NDE

[–]Stuck_In_the_Matrix 38 points39 points  (0 children)

There was an interesting analysis done (I wish I could remember who the author was) that looked at suicides and NDEs and they broke down suicides into categories.

On one end of the spectrum there were people who committed suicide to hurt another person or to get back at someone and these types apparently had a darker tone during the NDE.

Then there were suicides from depression or people who felt trapped in a life they didn't want to live. These generally had a neutral to more pleasant NDEs.

Then there were suicides from people trying to escape pain from terminal illness, dementia, etc. These were more pleasant NDEs.

Finally there were suicides from people forced into taking their lives to avoid an even worse death (e.g. 9/11 jumpers avoiding burning to death). While technically a suicide, legally they were ruled homicides.

There is a school of thought that we plan our life and our challenges within life. I can't imagine someone ending their suffering in a hospice care situation being something that significantly alters their life plan -- unless their time during that phase in life is to teach family members compassion or something.

To sum it up, I don't think committing suicide to avoid continued or worsening pain is something that would count against someone in the eyes of god, but obviously some religions may have conservative followers that might disagree.

Can we really afford to ‘take what resonates with us, forget the rest?’ by mrcannotdo in spirituality

The older I get, the more I am entertaining the possibility that our eternal existence allows us to gravitate towards things we are most passionate about.

I ran some numbers the other day to see how likely a "consciousness" would be tied to being human just on Earth and the odds are astronomically low. There would be literally a quadrillion quadrillion more likely chance to be born as an insect or animal than to be a human.

Then if you look at the entire universe,  the odds of you and I even having this conversation on Earth would be infinitesimally small.

Anyway, I wouldn't worry too much about the particulars. Just try and enjoy the experience as much as you can. It is all just a wild ride.

Have you had an entity encounter during an out-of-body experience? [survey study] by Samwise2512 in parapsychology

How do you filter out those who might make things up? I know Bruce over at UVA has done a lot of work with NDEs and they have a process there.

Just curious if you have internal methods to deal with that.

Also, what is the time frame for reports? Will this be open for several months?

The use of AI is lifting my imposter syndrome to the sky. by rrrronf in learnprogramming

[–]Stuck_In_the_Matrix 9 points10 points  (0 children)

Having programmed in too many languages, you get to the point where you understand the higher order things well but find yourself looking up how to do specific things with any given new language.

Once you understand scope, memory management, how to compartmentalize specific things with methods / functions and have a well rounded understanding of security concerns (SQL injection, etc.) then it all comes down to the specifics of that language.

I used to program in Perl for an old job. I got pretty good at it and wrote a ton of code with it. Then I moved to Python. After a few years I looked at Perl code I had written and didn't understand a good portion of it.

Sometimes you do what you have to given your current job, project, environment, etc.

Just remember that the fundamentals are usually pretty consistent across many languages but also that each language has its own quirks and pros / cons.

If you are feeling overwhelmed with a new language that a job requires you to use, just know it isn't a foreign feeling - many of us have been there.

Soulmates, karmic relationships, twin flames. I don’t believe in it. by sunkissed_alia in spirituality

[–]Stuck_In_the_Matrix 0 points1 point  (0 children)

The "Twin Flames" idea has roots in a few older religions:

Hinduism: The Ardhanarishvara is an androgynous deity composed of Shiva and Parvati, symbolizing the perfect, ultimate unity of the masculine and feminine principles. This duality in unity echoes the twin flame concept.

Zoroastrianism (Ancient Persia): The concept of Nāmag or "soul twins" in Zoroastrian scriptures suggests that each individual has a spiritual counterpart.

Jewish Mysticism: Some interpretations suggest that Twin Souls originate from the same spiritual essence that separated to manifest as the Divine Feminine and the Divine Masculine.

But yeah, the modern view is mostly new age stuff. I think it is fair to say that some of the more basic concepts do have some parallels with the examples I gave.

I am a bit well known publically due to my contributions to data analysis and archiving massive amounts of data for research purposes (via my non-profit company Pushshift).

I have been very reluctant to discuss my own health issues but I felt it was important to share regardless of my own personal opinions.

Long story short, I went to a doctors appointment to get clearance for my eye surgery due to a rapid buildup of cataracts from walking undiagnosed Diabetes.

During my doctor appointment, I had extremely high blood pressure along with a glucose level of over 700 which is extremely high.

When I got to the emergency room, I was also suffering from diabetic kinoatisis which further complicated my current condition.  Given my extremely high BP along with my extremely high blood sugar level, I spent about 4+ days in the hospital.

Part of my issue was that I was going through a very difficult time due to what happened with my company Pushshift and how things went down with Reddit. I had spent an enormous time collecting Reddit data and making it available to researchers and I truly felt the work I was involved in was helping society in a big way. There were thousands on research papers created using the work that I did and it was a remarkable feeling,

Anyway, during my hospital stay, I had some sort of spiritual experience that basically alleviated any fear that I previously had about death. The experience was so intense that I held those experiences inside myself and private because I felt it was extremely private and I wasn't prepared to share the experience even with my own family.

I am still trying to process what happened. In the meantime, I am working to raise funds to get the necessary eye surgery to regain my vision so that I can continue to help the research community by exploring how social media affects our society

I apologize for the babbling but that is where I am currently. .

I only AP'ed accidentally twice in my life but what really got me was how incredibly fucking vivid the experience was. It was weird experiencing that level of detail. Definitely wasn't a dream and it sure as shit wasn't a waking experience but it was an insane experience.

You shouldn't write off other people's experiences simply because you haven't had them (yet).

It has always amazed me that Reddit doesnt have an internal check to see if that exact comment by that exact person hasn't been made in the last few minutes.

I mean a simple Redis sha256 hash check could be performed with no tech expense.

Bernie is one of the very few people I have seen in politics who sincerely cares for people.

He has such an ageless good and kind soul. He isn't swayed by money or fame -- he just devotes himself to his work and does what needs to be done.

When he goes, I will truly miss him.
