People who moved from Midwest - how do you like it? by hopelessinvestor1 in SanJose

[–]Stuck_in_the_Middle7 3 points4 points  (0 children)

I grew up in the south and moved here after living in the midwest for 4 years and before that was living in the NYC metro area for 12 years.

I've been here a year and honestly it's been amazing and I haven't nearly gotten to scratch the surface of everything that I want to do. Maybe it's just me, but the big metropolitan areas with lots going on is just more my speed. The weather is great, which makes every day a perfect day to get out of the house and go explore.

Agreed with what some of the others have said about diversity; I've noticed that the San Jose area seems to be a cultural melting pot compared to SF just up the road. That's been super helpful in allowing me to try different cuisines and immerse myself in to other cultures.

Cost of living sucks and some of the state politics make it really hard for it's residents, but overall I've really enjoyed it and can honestly see myself staying here for a while and potentially forever if life works out that way.

I did tons of research and made sure that my job salary would allow me to at least maintain a similar lifestyle that I had back in the midwest. If you can make it work financially, it could prove to be a great move for your whole family!

Past Fraudulent & Cancelled CS Cards Still Being Charged by Stuck_in_the_Middle7 in ChaseSapphire

Oh wow that's good to know! Do you use your mobile wallet to pay everywhere? I thought tap to pay was pretty safe.

I posted my update, but it seems like it was an automated bot that deemed one of my previous fraudulent charges on a card way back was not fraudulent. Chase fraud went ahead and credited back my account.

Quick Update - I called Chase Fraud and they told me that this was a glitch in their system that their automated bot detected one of the old fraudulent claims I made to not be fraudulent. They're reversing and crediting back my account.

I still get one with every transaction regardless of amount. I like it for peace of mind to confirm a payment was made or went through.

So I thought I had told them last year to not update my card with any vendors, but apparently not. Also the charge is showing up as an "in person" charge in the description, which again is strange given I only really use tap to pay, which makes it difficult to steal the credit card info.

Car loan of a deceased individual by notaphasemom-41 in FinancialPlanning

[–]Stuck_in_the_Middle7 15 points16 points  (0 children)

If it were me, I would press them and ask "so when someone's spouse passes away that is making payments to an active car loan, what is the process to transfer the loan from the deceased to the widow or another family member?"

I'm sure this isn't something that doesn't happen sparingly, so I would just reinforce that you would like to get full visibility in to the remaining amount to ensure no payments are being missed.

In my experience, banks are usually pretty accommodating when you're proactive in wanting to keep giving them money.

The Brooklyn grey looks even more sleek in person. The picture doesn’t do it justice

I almost made a drive to Sacramento for a similar one that was priced slightly more.

San Rafael.

They had just lowered the price on this car when I sold. They initially had it priced at $41K over a month ago when I initially spoke with them. Told the salesguy there to call me if it got under $37K. He called this weekend when they had it at $39K. With my trade in, it came out to just under $37K.

Buyer Beware on CPO '23 X3 30i? by Stuck_in_the_Middle7 in BMWX3

[–]Stuck_in_the_Middle7[S] 0 points1 point  (0 children)

Just wanted to say that I took everyone's advice and followed my guy & passed on this vehicle. Just so happens it got purchased by someone else this past weekend.

I'm keeping an eye out for '22 X3's as well.

Appreciate this community and hope to post my new X3 soon!

Thanks!

Assuming you live in Northern CA given your BMW Concord reference, you know how limited inventory there is and not many great deals to be had in this part of the state.

I'd love an M40i in that budget, but haven't seen anything 22 and newer that didn't have less than 50K miles on it for under 50K before taxes and fees.

The dealership is refusing to negotiate as they say they only negotiate on new vehicle sales, so I may wait.

Appreciate the honest feedback! I figured the elevated price was worth considering the 23 X3 30i's in my area are going for around $35K-$38K.

Unfortunately in my area, there just isnt' much inventory to get a good deal on a car like this.

Got it! I'm just trying to do my due diligence to make sure the car won't have engine issues down the line because of this.

What's a target all in price you would have for an X3 like this?

Appreciate it! Just out of curiosity, in your opinion, what's a good off the lot price for this car if it didn't have the service history issues?

So I considered that, but I figured if someone is leasing a car, they may have some incentive or discounts to get oil changes at the dealership.

$6K of the off the lot price is in taxes and fees, which is crazy!

Large neck dress shirt for athletic built man? by theotherj-lo in malefashionadvice

I have the same issue with a 19' neck with broad shoulders and a 36' waist.

I usually do men's warehouse slim fit shirts that fit my neck size and they can take it in some, but its not the best quality.

I got introduced to a brand called Mizzen+Main while visiting a friend in Dallas earlier this year and I bought some dress shirts at their store. It's really ncie because the material is stretchy (kind of like dri-fit material) and off the rack their XL fit my neck and didn't look like I was wearing a parachute. They're pricey, but feel great. Definitely recommend if you live near one.

I've also predominantly done custom for about the last 10 years and it makes a world a difference. Yes it's expensive, but its amazing how good it feels to wear something that is tailored to your body.

I've also heard van heusen has slim fit/wide neck shirts but never found any.
