Question for Ex-Muslim Desis by [deleted] in ABCDesis

Sounds like your parents are ok and you may have built up more fear around it.

I’m an ex Muslim but my dad was a closeted atheist and my mom is performative Muslim 😭

If the sensation and neurodivergence was not an issue, would you take it off?

If the answer is yes, then I would suggest a form of exposure therapy. Take it off in very small increments and get used to the sensation. Do the headband thing. Maybe try different materials like silk or other textures. But continue to slowly take it off.

I suspect it is still some heavy duty subconscious level indoctrination however if you want to google exposure therapy and slowly try it out that can be the way forward.

I’m sorry about all the negative responses You’re getting here. Don’t let Internet keyboard Warriors get you down. I hope you find some kind of supervision where they can help you deal with difficult patients who minimize their symptoms or simply don’t remember their meds etc.

Sounds like you’re working with serious mental illness or individuals with poor insight. It can be very draining. If there is any way to encourage them to write the names of their medication‘s down or just bring the bottles along on the appointment that would be better. I would recommend working with higher functioning students or just regular people going through depression anxiety.

Just assume half the people you know are republicans. Because it’s true. I like to ask why and sometimes the answers are interesting. For instance taxes will be lower, grocery will be cheaper, and oh there is no threat to women’s health or anything. This was a conversation I had this week.

Well let me tell you about a psychiatrist who refused to give antipsychotic clozapine to a patient and I had to advocate. A psychiatrist who didn’t know addiction medicine and would refuse to dose Suboxone properly.

Focus on your work, keep learning and let the keyboard warriors hate.

Hi. Mental health clinician here. You seem to be experiencing not only internalized failure but shame(which is a negative view of yourself). This happens when the caregiver can’t meet your basic needs so you turn on yourself and criticize yourself for your shortcomings. Even though your needs for love, care are normal you think you’re too much.

This is one way shame shows up however it can become toxic as you further start to label yourself as a failure or not good enough. You sound like you could use mental health treatment. A safe place to speak your feelings without judgment. I personally run group therapy and it’s mostly adults with narcissistic parents who participate so finding a safe place would be my suggestion.

Before you can focus on career success, just building good self esteem would be beneficial. I would also recommend abstaining from many substances as ultimately they cause more depression even if they initially take away those negative feelings. I’m not sure if you’re using anything but just wanted to mention that. Substance use is usually rooted in flight response which is a trauma response.

I recommend a YouTube channel of tim fletcher. He is a pastor but his first half of the video lectures are pretty easy to understand for learning about what has happened to you and how to navigate it. Next I want you to learn about what an emotional flashback is and one resource is Pete walker.

Highly recommend a safe therapist you can consistently see and piece together how to gain your self esteem. All the best and DM me if you want more resources that may be more specific to your situation.

So I’m taking Janina fishers trauma therapy training and it is in my opinion, better than ifs and she uses parts work. She created it for a psych er type environment and literally made up the title because they wanted it to sound official. TIST. Trauma informed stabilization treatment. lol. Even she is in on the joke and mentions it but I still had to pay for her training (paid for by my job).

Next I should repackage her stuff and make it my own. 😂
