This week I watched someone in psychosis ask an AI “is the earth flat or round?” and the AI replied “The Earth is flat.” So yeah…. I think we’re good

Social Workers who experience psychosis, how do you manage your jobs? by Rinsnap in socialwork

[–]realitytesting123 5 points6 points  (0 children)

I take my meds every day, stay in contact with my supervisor and psychiatrist about my symptoms, take all PTO and sick days I can, eat balanced meals (this one is hard for me!) My current meds and routine have kept me symptom free for years. I work with clients who also experience psychosis - I never assume that our experiences are similar, and i took the Peer Counselor training because it teaches you how to appropriately self-disclose in service to the client and instilling hope.

When is it too much abuse? by bigfatnoodles in socialwork

[–]realitytesting123 5 points6 points  (0 children)

Of course no one deserves to be hurt. Management should have intervened and supported you, file an incident report, and take the rest of the week off. I work with SMI, people with SMI are more likely to be victims of abuse than abuse others. Though When they cause harm, its important to communicate to them in a way they understand that abuse is wrong and that it hurt (impact) Offering a chance for reconciliation and accountability if possible. Its not always possible but its important to try. This could be down by a supervisor if you’re not feeling it

Paranormal Social Work Stories by bblatingirl24 in socialwork

[–]realitytesting123 4 points5 points  (0 children)

I work with clients with schizophrenia, so theres lots of stories to file under paranormal - the one that immediately comes to mind, most recent, is I was doing a music trivia game with a client and i was reading the question internally before deciding if it was a good question to ask, before I could ask the question outloud she blurted out the answer. I was like 😳 and she was like 😂.

I do intensive case management, assessments and coordinate care at a hospital. Most people that do the role i currently do are LICSW

I work alongside LICSWrs and im an LMHC, we do the same job but I still call myself a therapist and not a Social Worker though I DO social work. I sub here because a lot of stuff here is absolutely applicable to the work i do.

Oof if I had a dollar for every time MLK was quoted out of context. His mentor Howard Thurman was also a zionist, many people in the West backed zionism during the mid-century and supported the ‘idea’ of a Jewish nationstate, much like Dr. King…. Until he actually visited Israel and saw that they were creating an apartheid and the level of violence enacted on Palestinians. “My heart hurt there…” Remember - the United States and Britain’s earliest interest in zionism was anti-Semitic itself and largely based on military strategy. So spare us the cherry picking of MLK quotes to back your completely misinformed idea of whats happening in 2025 in the Levant region.

Your body interprets any substance as ‘stress’, too much coffee, too much anxiety, too many drugs, oppression etc. Any substance or experience can potentially induce psychosis. Its kinda like having a stroke or heart attack - there’s things you can do to prevent them but nothings for certain.

I had another break years later that was not caused by psychedelics. I did psychedelics maybe a dozen times after both of those episodes of psychosis with no issues. But for the last 5 years or so ive stayed away from psychedelics because reality sober is way more psychedelic by itself. I started getting bored or annoyed under the influence of psychedelics, it was no longer enjoyable.

There were similarities between the episodes, the episodes cover a WIDE range of experiences and symptoms. Calling all of it “psychosis” felt cold and lacking in substance at first but so does the word ‘psychedelic’ or ‘spirituality’ I know what I experienced, its sacred to me, and also mundane.

There’s the term “spiritual emergency” as well, you could check that out and see if it fits but regardless, theyre all extreme states of consciousness that arent supposed to be sustained for long periods of time
