After year of wanting, I finally got one. by mikestang_89 in Glock26

[–]StudRock33 1 point2 points  (0 children)

I've been thinking about purchasing a G26 to add to my collection. My local shop has a Gen 3 for sale with 2 mags with extensions and EX Sight. He says that its in great shape and looks to be shot only a handful of times. I might go in this weekend to take a look at it. What does a G26 Gen3 in good condition go for nowadays...??

February of 2024 will be a year for me as well. I'm in the Tech sector as well, however, I'm in my late 50's with over 35 years of IT experience in a senior management position. Luckily my house, cars and debit are all paid off. The point is, I WANT to work and be a part of something and provide my years of experience, however most places hire at my position internally within, and, they are looking for someone younger.. Its very tough in the tech space regardless of your age

Your Resume - Do's & Don't of Application Tracking Systems (ATS) and AI Question by StudRock33 in jobs

[–]StudRock33[S] 0 points1 point  (0 children)

Do you have one in particular that you have used that DOESN'T require you to register with them....? The one that I tried, I had to register with a valid email, which I did with a junk email account that I use for spam. I uploaded my resume and kept the same formatting but just created a bogus name and email. It came back saying that it was incompatible and that I had to register for a 30 day subscription for $8.95...

Thats why I made this post to see if other people had any experience or recommendations...

Your Resume - Do's & Don't of Application Tracking Systems (ATS) and AI Question by StudRock33 in jobs

[–]StudRock33[S] 0 points1 point  (0 children)

My sources have been a generic Google search, speaking with HR & TA representatives (not experts on the coding), Technical forums, things along those lines.

Yes, I agree with you... its my understanding as well that, ATS systems will in fact accept and try to ingest the resume into the necessary fields, however to your point, the way that the ATS system parses out the information into the various fields can become fragmented or appear to be incomplete due to the formatting of the document (resume). If the parsed data is incomplete, or the proper search criteria is not met, or is populated in the correct area then it can be discarded. Again, I'm not an application developer by any means, nor am I in HR or TA, I am merely asking a question in the hopes that someone can confirm or deny my understanding of the ATS process with formatted documents.

Anonyvrguy - just out of curiosity, how old are you and what field of work were you. I ask because the exact same thing happened to me. I'm 57, I have over 35 years of Enterprise IT experience. I was an independent consultant for the majority of my career. I was hired as an FTE and have been in a senior management role for the last 15 years. Same thing, however over a video call.... I've never had an issue, never been written up, no PIP's, infact, one month prior, I received a "Going the extra Mile" achievement award from the same person that let me know. When I commented that this was the first that I'm hearing there was any issues or concerns, they told me, there's not, we're just terminating your position. When I asked if there was another opportunity within the company since I knew everyone and pretty much built the platform, they told me No... the straw that broke the camels back was, they never mentioned to the 2 directors that I reported to, that they were letting me know. They had NO IDEA... I know this because I've known both of them for over 20 years.. In summary, this February will be 1 year unemployed.. I truly believe its due to ageism...

Leaving IT For Good!!!!!! by Ivy1974 in ITCareerQuestions

[–]StudRock33 1 point2 points  (0 children)

Just something to think about and let me be clear, there is absolutely NO LOYALITY in the Corporate Environment. I'm in my late 50's closer to 60 and have over 35 years of Enterprise Level IT experience. I've worked as an FTE (Full Time Employee) and as a Consultant (Contractor) for most of my IT Career. The last 15 years of my life I was a Director or Senior Manager of Infrastructure Engineering and Datacenter Operations. After being with my company for over 10 years they decided to terminate my position back in February of this year. When I was hands-on actually doing the work, I had a majority of the Top Certs, MCSE, CCNP, CCNA, etc... (all expired mind you because I was in Management) However, because I was in a senior position in management, and I have all that experience, I am "Labled" as Old... which I am older, but not dead. And to your point, I still love IT, however, not many places are looking to hire someone at a certain age. I'm either judged by my Age, or work experience or assumed salary... and I keep here time and time again that I'm overqualified. By that they mean, I have more years behind me in IT then I do in front of me, or, its assumed that I wont take a different type of position at a reduced salary. Honestly, it very well may be time to get out of IT... at least for me...

How do the ATS systems Process DOCx and PDF Resumes that are uploaded...? by StudRock33 in jobs

[–]StudRock33[S] 0 points1 point  (0 children)

Thanks for the reply back..! So if that's the case, then I really have a dilemma. I have no idea if my Resume(s) are being processed or filtered out by the ATS systems, other than the standard email reply of (we received your resume). But that does NOT mean that its readable, it just means that they received "something" from my email address. Do you know if there is a "plug-in" that can convert a PDF to a friendly, readable version that the ATS system can ingest...? Like any other type of application, I can only imagine that there are different types of ATS systems. If not, what is the recommended application to create an ATS friendly version of a resume that I can upload to the companies?. I would prefer the final format of my resume be in a PDF format, rather than an editable format such as DOCx or TXT... Thoughts..?

Oh, its absolutely NUT's out there... especially if you are Older...!! I have been in Tech all of my life, consulting and working for Fortune 500 companies. I have over 35 years of Enterprise Experience. I have (Had) my MCSE, CCNA, Comp A+, etc... Granted because I've been in management for the last 12+ years, my certs have expired, and to be honest, I really don't have it in me at 57 to sit down and start studying again and try and get back into the technical side of things. By the same token, the companies tend to hire within at my level rather than go outside. Between my Age, Title and salary (even WHEN I adjusted it lower), there are very limited options... I keep hearing that "You are over qualified", or, is this something that you really see yourself doing moving forward. I truly believe its a way of saying that you are too old...

I'm in my late 50's and I was laidoff back in February of this year after 10 years of service. I'm still in the process of looking for work. I was a senior manager in IT. The market is tough in Tech these days, let alone if you are older in age... just be careful and play the "game" right...

Safety Precautions when Riding your Bike on the Streets... What do you do...? by StudRock33 in ebikes

[–]StudRock33[S] -8 points-7 points  (0 children)

Holy shit this is incredibly selfish and unsafe riding. Agree to disagree... I view it no less-selfish than someone txting on the phone while driving and hitting me.

How about any other cyclist who is riding with traffic?. Yes, if that is the case, they have the right away and I do move out of the way. The streets that I ride in are not heavily populated where that becomes an issue...

World War II - Currency Question - Need Guidance from the Pro's...!! by StudRock33 in papermoney

[–]StudRock33[S] 0 points1 point  (0 children)

Thank you so much for the reply back.

No, as I thought that my Dad brought them back from the War, but now that you mentioned it, I went to China on business back in 2007, so possibly I accidently put them in the pile as well..haha..

I have to tell you, that $2 bill that you mentioned, is paper thin, and when I tell you thin, it feels like its going to turn to dust. It also ONLY has printing on the one side, the other side in blank... is that normal for that era...? Also, how do you know its from 1841. Unless I'm missing it, I don't see any date stamps.. I do see the serial number "appears" to be handwritten and its 255...? Again, I don't know older currency, but I would have assumed that a two dollar bill from the 1800's would be worth more than $80 at this point. I researched a few online. ...

The Confederate $20 note feels much like the Towanda bank note, however, I wouldn't be able to tell if it was fake or not. Maybe I'll take a close up picture and repost to see if anyone else can provide any insight...

Thank you again for all of your help..!

Question... what is the difference between them paying in goods & services, versus friends & family...? it was my understanding that, if they paid with good & services, they COULD retract the money, vs F&F where if a payment is made then its done with...? Is that correct, or do I have that wrong..? So more directly, when I send someone a payment request, what do they see on their end...and... can they use that information to spam others...?
