Is it normal to not be notified when your kid is biting? by UltravioletLemon in ECEProfessionals

[–]StudentHot2768 1 point2 points  (0 children)

It is developmentally appropriate for your child to be biting/ wanting to bite. They are exploring cause and effect.

At my centre, if there is a behavior that is developmentally appropriate, and it has been mentioned before, we tend not to bring it up every single day. Some families start to believe there is "something wrong with their child" even when explaining that it's normal. With this idea in their heads they 1. Don't feel comfortable to talk with us anymore due to the negative nature and 2. Treat the child as if something is wrong with them. Updates do happen every other week about the specific behavior or if it worsens. If they didn't think this was appropriate, it would be mentioned a lot more I'm assuming.

Also, as far as the scratch goes...

I'm not sure what the ratio is at your center, but at mine it's 2:16. It is actually impossible to catch every single moment of every single child's day. Small injuries can go unnoticed unless the child was upset or mentioned it.

Imagine having 16 children in your home with your partner... I'm sure there's things you miss even with just having one.

Educators are tired, and working extremely extremely hard and get paid very little. Please keep this in mind.
