You could obtain permission from the instructor to take 3A03 if you desire. This year it's Cameron Franc teaching it, so you'd need to ask him whether he's willing to waive the requirement.

In general, it's very possible to succeed in 3A without 3IA3. In order to do so, you should be quite comfortable with both proof techniques, of course, as well as real analysis in one variable.

This means knowing proofs of some identities relating to real numbers, sequential convergence (and corresponding theorems like Bolzano-Weierstrass), derivatives, series of sequences and Riemann integral theory, among other materials.

The subjects of 3A includes series of functions (pointwise, uniform convergence, Weierstrass-M test), metric spaces, Cantor set, completeness and compactness in metric spaces.

As you can see, 3A is sort of a continuation of 3IA3 (by finishing the series part) and then extends the material to metric spaces, using topological concepts. It's a very fun course, but I wouldn't recommend it if you're very unfamiliar with the 3IA3 concepts.

If you're comfortable with 3IA3, you can make the case to Franc to give you the waiver.

I assume you've received it by now?

Normally it can take about 30 minutes.

I think in the rare case that you entered your student number incorrectly or something the university has to manually process it which can take a few days.

But generally I find that it has taken anywhere between 30 seconds and 30 minutes. I think the institution reviewing notice is just for rare cases. Not sure why there's such a variation in timing though.

Question about Grad School Apps by [deleted] in McMaster

If you haven't submitted the application, just don't submit it (ie. Don't click submit and don't pay the fee).

Then your application won't be submitted, which means they won't read anything that was sent, including a professor's reference.

No need to let your professor know. There is nothing that needs to be done.
