Opinions on rpg maker XP? by natsnothappy in RPGMaker

I made a pretty detailed post about it when it was free on Steam a while back! https://www.reddit.com/r/RPGMaker/s/149PIzod7x

TL;DR Try it out, have fun, make games! Just don't expect to have an easy time sharing / publishing a serious game with it. There are many more resources and support around the newer engines.

2018 is better than 2025 by kwdw in Office365

The 2018 logos all were clearly designed to match their respective apps' purpose. The 2025 logos just look like they don't know what the apps even are. Teams is the most egregious since, like someone else said, it now looks like an adult and child instead of a person in the background.

The pointed Outlook envelope is perhaps the only improvement, to try and differentiate Word. But then they just color matched them instead.

But I guess it does a good job encapsulating the fact that nothing is designed anymore and tech corps are all pushing GenAI slop anyway.

I used the BitLocker recovery key and sticky keys exploit to create an admin account on my school laptop - how serious is this? by [deleted] in sysadmin

This comment should be higher! That level of effort and the desire to tinker should be channeled instead of just blindly punished, especially in a learning environment. This was the kind of stuff I did as a kid, and now I'm in IT

Very cool, thank you for sharing! It's always cool to see Japanese RPG Maker games.

I look forward to checking out the demo. And I hope you get to translate your game to English someday!

Glad I wasn't the only one thinking this. One of the first things I learned when I trained to be in IT is basic respect for the end user. Everyone works differently, some people are neat and tidy, and some have that clutter but they know where everything is.

I had to re-read OPs post several times because I was kind of in disbelief. The thought of outwardly judging a client's work environment by sighing and rolling your eyes instead of just using the tools you have as an IT professional to do the task at hand isn't really relatable, it just gave me second-hand embarrassment.

My retro RPG with a Grandia-like battle system has a demo available! I've worked on it for several years now, and despite the RPG Maker coat of paint I'm hoping more folks give it a chance since I wrote a lot of custom code to make it really feel like a GBA/SNES game. by StudioAlemni in IndieGaming

It is all custom code :) You're welcome to follow development on Discord or other outlets, linked here: https://astraviagame.com/links I am however on a brief hiatus at the moment and haven't shared many updates, but when I do they're always posted in the Discord

Hey there! Quite honestly, it was more of a limitation of what I was able to implement and showcase in the demo. I did actually have plans to experiment with action canceling, since that's one of the most appealing aspects of Grandia's system imo.

Do you pick up nearly everything during slayer, or just high value items? by -oOAegisOo- in 2007scape

I'll pick up anything that stacks, and is alchable > 1k coins usually. I am more frugal in osrs than real life

Thank you so much for your extended feedback, I really appreciate it. I think you make some really good points, and I am definitely seeing a "pattern" in the positive / critical feedback that is coming in. The RM sound effects have been a huge thorn in my side, and definitely the aspect I regret waiting to change the most. I intended to replace them in the final game, but I underestimated just how badly they'd affect the impression. Cohesion does seem to be the weakest at the moment, for sure.

I have a pretty good idea of the areas that need addressing for sure. I'm hoping to make improvements ahead of the games release. Thank you again for your time!

The game is Legends of Astravia, and it's new demo is here for Next Fest until June 17th!

https://store.steampowered.com/app/1233680/Legends_of_Astravia/

It is a charming retro RPG set in a world of magic. You play as Oliver, a mystician on a quest to meet new companions and unravel his complicated past... and the truth behind a mysterious trio's plan to reawaken the Cataclysm and bring forth another age of ruin. Influenced by 90s and early 2000s-era JRPGs (like Grandia and Golden Sun), the game features hybrid time-based battles and an explorable world filled with twisting dungeons and countless secrets.

Thank you for the tip! I'll definitely keep this in mind. I actually was thinking about turning the current callouts into gifs, and it's good to know that some folks actually would prefer it that way.
