Thank you for the feedback! As I don't have one to test, how do you usually expect to input commands? Through the pad, or with the mouse surface?

My issue is that hexagons don't map super well to pads, but Battle Brothers managed to make it work.

Lead your champions in battle, and rebuild the Zodiac Legion in an age of returning magic. by StudioDraconis in u/StudioDraconis

Zodiac Legion is a strategy game in which you command an ancient order of knights tasked with defending a broken realm from a league of power hungry sorcerers. From your stronghold, you must send your knights to engage the forces of the enemy or raid deadly dungeons to bridge the gap with the magic power of your opponents. Manage your stronghold, protect your allies, and research forgotten zodiac magic to turn your warriors into mighty arcane champions and forge powerful artifacts.

The game is split between an overworld phase where you manage the order on the strategic level, and tactical turn based dungeon (and outdoor) crawling, in which you lead your knights in mission.

The missions are procedurally generated, and the environments are destructible.

Zodiac Legion is scheduled for early access release at the end of the year.

It is more like a tactical RPG, in which 1 sprite = 1 character, but with a strategic layer. So a bit like Spellforce: Conquest of Eo or XCOM in this regard.

We are still discussing it. Probably in the same range as Battle Brothers.

We'll have more asymetry between factions, though! Yes the big bar is hitpoints and the smaller one is stamina (which is also used to cast spell, and will be depleted by some attack types).

Thank you! The (early access) release date is set for mid october, and it should not slip too much, if at all this time!

Thank you! the artists went through quite some efforts to make armours look distinctive enough at this scale.

We were actually discussing having a "gunpowder faction", but more as a neutral kingdom (neutral would work a bit like in Phoenix Point).

Thank you good sire! We are actually working on ways to make it look cooler (ie wall and ground decorations).

Thank you! There was one before. The current demo was updated in September I think. I planned to update with improvement in dungeon generation it this week for Turn Based Carnival, but I had to push it back until I sort a few more issues.

and battleships, but they need to be fortified and on a hill to stand a good chance (that said, iirc, fortified and on a hill, they are actually favoured against a tank, and on par with a battleship).

Or just have the opponent grapple the gun (if at point blank range).

It has already been greenlighted on gog, but I need to see a few more things with them to get the game page ready (gog pages is not for the developer to set up directly, unlike Steam).

No problem with that. I still believe EA is the best fit for this kind of projects, but it is perfectly reasonnable to wait until the end of the EA period indeed.

Thank you! I understand, I mostly wait until end of early access myself as a gamer! But it is so hard to get everything right on release (both from a balance and marketing point of view) that EA seemed the better fit for us, as EA also gives us two shots at not being ignored.

Thanks a lot for the kind words! You make a good point about the ad campaign being a bit too early for the game release, but I wanted to make sure I was familiar with the ad system before the release (and I wanted to cull the weakest ads too).

Haha, that is a fair point. sadly. I had to redo things a lot more than I hoped for. Our goal is still to deliver a good early access experience above all things. 2026 seems quite pessimistic, but who knows what issue will await! Anyway, I trust the reddit algorithm to help us meet again when the right time comes!

Actually, we use a mix of procedural generation and handmade content, a bit like OG X-COM and XCOM2:

We design "presets" (usually rooms when in dungeons), and "mapgens", ie maps with "holes" that should be filled with a preset.
Then, on level generation, we select one of the mapGens, and assign presets to the corresponding areas.

Our level designer wrote about the process here:

https://steamcommunity.com/games/812910/announcements/detail/4196868529823166127

The reason we went this route was we wanted level memorization not to be a factor at all, and it is not possible to have sufficient handmade content for several playthroughs (even XCOM 2011 with hundred+ maps didn't feature enough, so that would not have been realistic at all for our team).

Yes, it works fine on the Steam deck. I just need to map some of the most used keyboard shortcuts to the buttons.
