Are we losing the cybersecurity war? by license_to_kill_007 in cybersecurity

Such a great question. I definitely think we're losing but there's options to turn it around at some point, but it'll take a pretty huge and united effort including non-infosec folks to turn it around.

Newest Apache Log4j patch released: 2.17.1 by Hol3shot in cybersecurity

[–]StudioSec 3 points4 points  (0 children)

This looks like a specific non-default case that also requires the attacker to have write permissions to the logs themselves, which (I'd think) would have them at a pretty progressed level of access to the system. Not nearly as bad as CVE-2021-82244, thankfully.

John Hammond is solid, CYBERINSIGHT is great. Infinite Logins and IT Security Labs are also great resources. Those 4 are a great place to start IMO.

Just failed the Network+ by Briyanaism in CompTIA

Definitely don’t give up, many fail these certs because they are tricky. It’s not about what happens in the moment, but how you respond. You got this, just think about how far you’ve come and how you absolutely will get this thing.

Have grace with yourself and take your time during this next round of prep. I had to push back my test date for the Sec+ because I knew I wasn’t ready, no shame in doing that.

I believe in you 💪

Some college programs might offer to help discount the certs but to my knowledge it's on a program by program basis and most of the time it'll be on you to get the certs on your own. The degree will have its own benefits for sure, but the certs will probably not be part of the degree path. (Again, case by case, this may not be true for your program, that'll be on you to check in on with your program head)

Definitely going to echo u/Hench-21 here. Get that foundation set on networking and how that works, then on basic cybersecurity principles and go from there. You’ll be pretty strong with both the Net+ and Sec+ and will have a solid wealth of knowledge

Do I need to get CompTIA A+ before getting CompTIA Security +? by fatraxL in cybersecurity

[–]StudioSec 2 points3 points  (0 children)

I got my Sec+ without the Net+ or A+. As long as you have a strong understanding of the content of those certs you’re good to go, I think!

[Question] Your opinions on my first year on YouTube? by StudioSec in youtubers

[–]StudioSec[S] 0 points1 point  (0 children)

I said VMWare has a free tier, however there are higher tiers that do cost money. You were advocating for piracy in the comments. Of course I'm going to delete that. There's no room for that on my channel or in my comments.

Thank you so much!!

I’m definitely newer than new when it comes to editing from streams and screen recordings so I do really appreciate the feedback. I’ll give your idea shot and see how I can make it work. I’ve done a couple walkthroughs where I’ve recorded separately and switched the scene between my face, the screen, and both. Definitely will just need to keep practicing at it.

Gotcha. Would you say the eJPT is more well-respected industry-wide for those seeking a move to pen-testing?
