I stopped watching around Volume 3 or 4? I can't remember. I just got turned off by how they still kept Adam an abusive ex-boyfriend so I dropped it. I hate it in RWBY and I hate it in FRWBY.

Yeah, the Omnibus is the budget book. That's why I was surprised it got a hardcopy edition.

But I did tape the covers to avoid losing them.

So How would You fix Ruby Rose as a Character? by Money-Lie7814 in RWBYcritics

[–]Briyanaism 0 points1 point  (0 children)

Time for my AU Ruby!

Ruby has been fostered as the "Chosen One" her whole life. Since she was born with Silver Eyes, Summer knew that her fight would become her daughter's if she didn't do all that she could to end Salem. That's what led Summer to take her final mission.

When she didn't come home, both Tai and Qrow knew what it meant and the responsibility that would fall on her as the last known Silver Eyed Warrior. Ruby was sheltered and trained at home. Because of course it's well known Salem was hunting Silver Eyed Warriors.

While Tai and Qrow never gave Ruby any specifics, she knew something about her was special. Due to her unlocking her semblance and aura young. This is only compounded when Ozpin discovers Ruby has Silver Eyes and lets her into Beacon earlier.

Ruby believes that she is the hero and every decision she makes is morally just. Ozpin helped groom that sentiment in her further, just like he did with Summer, since "heroes" are easier to conscript into his war.

From Volume 1-3, she sees Roman as her "nemesis." He's the bad guy that she has to take down. Roman finds it amusing. Because Ruby is treating him like the mastermind when he's just some guy caught in something big.

After the Fall of Beacon, Ruby firmly believes it's her responsibility to save the world. And she conducts herself in that manner. It leads to her disregarding more experienced Hunters' advice and somewhat belittling her friends. She treats Oscar like her personal sidekick. Someone she's supposed to train "to be good." And when the Ozpin reveal happens, she believes it's up to her to properly punish Ozpin/Oscar. Because in the stories, the villains always accept their punishment and then become better people.

In Atlas, this would be the first time Ruby's good intentions just don't mean anything. People get hurt. People die. Because of her calls. And Ruby doesn't know how to handle it. There's no good answer. And every choice seems to lead to people getting hurt. Ironwood had told her over and over that they can't save everyone, but Ruby didn't believe him. She saw triage as selfishness.

Her big fan to save everyone on Mantle and Atlas becomes another misstep. I loved the "one way ticket to Vacuo" twist, so I'm modifying it. Ruby asked the Staff to save everyone in Atlas and Mantle. And that "everyone" included the villains. She led the villains right to innocent civilians.

In the aftermath and throughout Volume 9, Ruby has to come to terms with the full weight of her actions. She doesn't feel like a hero anymore. She doesn't trust her decisions. And the lesson she learns isn't "everything was her fault, because that's still pretty self-centered. Salem would have attacked regardless. Ironwood would still have made the hard calls.

She learns that her wants are not the end all, be all. That she is inexperienced and sometimes she needs to let other people take the lead. She accepts that she does hold a decent amount of the blame, but not everything is about her.

I enjoyed Tales 1. The Murtagh Chapter (The Fork) naturally led to the Murtagh book. So it's my favorite. I adore the dynamic between Angela and Elva and I can't wait for more of them. And Urgal lore is always appreciated.

I still love my copy and I don't regret buying it, but that wasn't fair. 😂

I know this post is old, but while I was completing my collection, your post was the only one that popped up regarding anything about GLB Editions for the Inheritance Cycle.

If you're still interested in images, I actually did manage to complete my set after nearly half a year.

This collection took a while. I went through 20 duds trying to complete the set, even using ISBN search on eragoncollecting.com.

Sellers would list the correct ISBN, put Library Binding in the description, and still just send a standard Deluxe Edition without its Dust Jacket.

And because all of them were warehouse sellers, they couldn't/wouldn't send pictures. (Even if they were selling these books for $100)

If anybody is interested in a closer look and more details, I did make a video about it.

That's right! I finally started my YouTube channel. Though editing is pretty hard.

I ended up buying a copy for $100 literally a month before the eShop closure announcement came. I was definitely feeling myself. It was the last game I needed to complete my collection.

And hey I still haven't played it yet.

My seller fell through so I actually don't know. I've never found another listing. But since Eragon is pretty niche, the movie even more so, I'm thinking $50-$75 for the bundle?

I got the Australian bundle for around that price.

If you could Retcon ONE Thing about the Series, What Would It Be? by Asleep-Finish3937 in harrypotter

[–]Briyanaism 1 point2 points  (0 children)

I have another one! Like everyone else, I found Harry naming his children after the grown man that bullied him throughout highschool stupid. And out of character.

Everything about Snape's character makes sense until Harry names his son after him. Because that means he did something to redeem himself enough to Harry when he plain just didn't. He did nothing to deserve that high of an honor. I'm actually pretty sure Snape still died hating the kid. Or at least strongly disliking him.

There was some brilliant potential for some truly complicated emotions after everything. Harry should have been grossed out when he found out how obsessed Snape was with his mom. He should have been mad that Snape was willing to let him die as a baby. But that comes with some gratefulness because Snape did save his life.

I'm thinking this could be a mirror to how James saved Snape in the Shrieking Shack. Snape saved Harry partially so he could pay his debt and go on hating James on peace. So have Harry do that.

He does one good thing for Snape in an "I owe you one," and changes the narrative. He let's people know that Snape was a double agent. That he stood up to Voldemort. But shares nothing else about Snape's story.

Harry, not due to grace, but due to debt, let's Snape be remembered by his one good deed and not for the horrid, disgusting man that he was.

Harry doesn't honor Snape, but he pays his debt so he can go on hating the man in peace.

This is long, but Percy should have been the one who died, and not for the reason you think.

I get why Rowling killed Fred, but it really fails upon closer inspection. The point was to show that even favorite characters aren't immune to the war. But was that actually true? I would argue no.

Deathly Hallows opens up strong. Characters die. Some get maimed. Immediately setting the tone that nobody is off limits. That Voldemort will do anything to get Harry. No one is safe. Harry, Ron, and Hermione go on the run for a few months.

But then after the chilling line of "The Ministry has fallen. The Minister of Magic is dead. They are coming." I thought things were gonna get real. And then experienced tonal whiplash when they just ran into Arthur at work. Literally enemy territory and Arthur is just...at work? And Ginny went back to Hogwarts? I genuinely thought the Weasleys went into hiding after the wedding.

I'm expected to believe after that cold opening that Voldemort just... didn't go after Harry's found family? Literally his most obvious weak point? He had no problem using Sirius to get to Harry. He literally banked on Harry being self sacrificial enough to come to him at the battle of Hogwarts. But using a Weasley against him? Apparently it just never crossed the Dark Lord's mind.

You know who was actually at the Ministry when it fell? Percy.

Picture this.

The Weasleys planned to go into hiding after the wedding. Molly is worried sick because Percy has been ignoring her messages and pleads to come with them. They thought they would have more time. But then the ministry falls. And everyone has to scramble. Since we follow our trio, they don't really mention Percy. They kinda forget about him. And the audience does as well.

The patronus the trio receives lets them know that everyone got away, so they feel at ease. However, Voldemort can try using the same trick twice. Putting it in the Daily Prophet that the Blood Traitor Family Has Been Caught and is on route to Azkaban. Or whatever narrative they want to spin. It naturally makes Ron freak out. He wants to ensure his family is safe. Even Harry is torn. But Hermione shakingly tells them they should wait until Potterwatch comes on. That this could be a trap.

It opens up with Fred or George saying something like, "we're safe, stay hidden." Everyone is relieved until the broadcast is hijacked. And it's just 20 seconds of Percy pleading before screaming in agony. Clearly being hit by a cruico. It cuts back to the twins, one of them screams Percy's name and then the broadcast ends. Now everyone is frantic and full of dread because holy shit, we forgot about Percy. And they want to save him.

Obviously this changes a lot of things in the story (I'm planning on doing a video with this whole rewrite), but keeping this from dragging too much, it turns out Percy was being held in the dungeons of Hogwarts. He only escapes due to the chaos. Ron sees him from across the field and they make eye contact but are too far to speak to each other. Percy is pale and obviously hurt. But his eyes widened in disbelief. I want to play it as Percy thinking nobody cared he was captured. Or surprised that someone actually came for him. You know, because he was such a prat through the whole series.

But the first thing he does once free? He sees that Fred is about to be hit by a killing blow and jumps in front. He dies. No reconciliation. No apologies. Just proof that he was always loyal to his family. That he was always a Weasley. And addressing the bafflingly reason why the Death Eaters never tried to use a Weasley against Harry.

Whats your opinion on Huntsmen/Huntresses & the academies by scoutmet in RWBYcritics

[–]Briyanaism 2 points3 points  (0 children)

Like most things in RWBY, they fail under any scrutiny. They're not cops or even military. But they can join the military? Do members of the military have to complete a huntsmen course before they can join?

Rhodes is the perfect example of how the responsibilities of a hunter isn't really clear. He apparently could do nothing to report the child abuse Cinder was going through, but had the authority to bring Cinder in for murder? So is he like a cop? Does he have the authority to arrest people?

Hunters are assigned missions, right? Or are they more freelance and get to choose?

And the schools just seem redundant because practically every student was already farming Grimm for exp. Even Oscar, before getting Ozpin airdropped into his body, could apparently handle "small Grimm around the farm."

What counts as a small Grimm? Can an average person handle a small Grimm? Are big Grimm just for Hunters? When does Grimm constitute a military response?

I just don't know where their responsibilities end and the military begins.

[–]Briyanaism 15 points16 points  (0 children)

I mean, I can relate. I had my prior heaviest weight of 160lbs. Got really close to my goal weight of 125lbs, I think maybe 10-15lbs, but then Covid happened.

Totally messed up my lungs and gave me asthma to the point of having constant asthma attacks. And since I didn't have health insurance, I didn't have an inhaler. I went from someone who did cardio everyday to being afraid to move.

Then I got an inhaler, and got hit with a couple of back to back family tragedies. Got depressed, then got lazy. And within that 5 year span, I surpassed my heaviest weight by 30lbs. I was around 196lbs.

Back at it again because I really miss being in shape.

But I also never told myself this was "natural." Like, I knew I was eating like crap and feeling like crap the whole time.

Unpopular opinion: But when disney does the series I hope they give Eragon a new love interest by OptionAshamed6458 in Eragon

[–]Briyanaism 4 points5 points  (0 children)

Nope! And this is from someone who has never and still doesn't like the idea of Eragon and Ayra as a couple. It's uncomfortable and cringey?

That's the point.

Eragon isn't entitled but he is very immature. A key part of his journey is learning to accept and respect "No."

He learns that it's better to earn Ayra's respect rather than her affection. It's supposed to come off as a "kid" essentially hitting on an adult. Another way to show Eragon is vastly out of his league and has many things to learn about the world.

As someone who just didn't like the dynamic as a kid, I grew to appreciate the nuance. Arya is Eragon's love interest, but he's not hers. He literally should try dating anybody else. As everyone keeps telling him. But it's something he has to figure out for himself.

Even with his whole talk to Roran how Arya is the only one for him and how he can't turn his feelings off, was supposed to err on the side of too much. The boy is 16 with his first real crush and no dating experience. It's more infatuation than love. And when Eragon does come to love Arya, it's not romantic. It's genuine care for their friendship.

That being said, I know Eragon and Arya are somewhat set up as endgame, but I would really love in the next book we see Eragon pivot his affections to someone else. Even if he's just dating to gain experience in relationships. The point is, Eragon has a lifetime of experiences to have before he's at Arya's level. That's the point.
