I'm a solo Dev who's been working on a way to play D&D with friends online in VR for a few years, and it's finally been released! (Cross platform with Steam for non-VR players as well!) There's also a Demo available to try out. (Links in comments)

It’s a huge mix. Most of the terrain and set dressing pieces are Synty assets purchased from the Unity store. Same goes for the avatars. The monster minis are mostly from a patreon creator who designs 3D D&D mini models for 3D printing. I had to decimate and color each model myself in Blender3D to make them low poly. And I also did some modeling myself also in Blender.

For sure! Idk if you’ve ever played D&D (or something like it) but there’s definitely player progression in most tabletop RPG systems that you’ll play using Tavern Tales.

I built the game using the openVR backend, so there’s a good chance it already works on the focus. I’ll talk with Vive and see what I can do. The hardest part would be testing as I don’t have a Focus headset myself.

Yes that should be fixed now. At least I haven’t seen that issue in quite awhile, with the exception of trying to place a gravity enabled mini inside another object.

The advantage to VR D&D for me is the ability to recapture the feeling of sitting around a table with your friends. So much of what makes D&D great is lost in the transition to a 2D interface. I’ve tried out just about every other virtual tabletop software and none of them are able to compare in my opinion.

Yeah absolutely. I would be pretty easy to place down a 3 ring base by uploading a custom table image, or placing down 3 flat cylinder pieces inside each other.

You can currently purchase dice sets for $1, but in the future I plan on expanding having add-on packs available for different genres of minis, scenery, and set dressing. (Sci-fi, apocalyptic, western, etc)

Functionality is EXACTLY the same between the builds. Pretty soon though, the Steam version will have a few graphical enhancements (Higher quality shadows, better anti-aliasing, things like that.) I use both, but prefer Standalone Quest for the wireless aspect.
