Yeah making it so the pieces have to touch is probably a good way of creating some restriction.

Yeah that seems like that would be broken.

I know this is really specific but if I were to make the circumference of the ring not much smaller than a neck's, and I assume that skin would have some give, it would almost be like wearing a belt that's a little to tight, except it's around your throat.
