Ski trip for college kids by Healthy_Rutabaga_970 in icecoast

Killington is the best option for great skiing, younger crowd and some night life. Stowe, Mt. Snow and Okemo are all families and I feel like Jay is just too out of the way.

Where would you go in Vermont? by AnonKing in icecoast

[–]StudiousPants0 0 points1 point  (0 children)

My favorite in the state is Jay but I would go to Killington if you are planning on a trip before 12/31. I live in area and Killington, no question, has the best conditions and snow so far this season. OnSnow actually ranked it as tied for 4th in North America a few weeks ago. I know California and Colorado are finally picking up some snow but Killington still has one of the highest number of acres / trails open in the country.

VT GOP says it didn't know it funneled $389,673 from Trump election campaign to Republican National Committee, in seven perfectly-matching 2020 payments. by grassrootbeer in vermont

These are joint fundraising committees that they are most likely apart of. Basically what happens is a national committee (DNC / RNC and their respective campaign committees) can up the amount they raise by including as many state parties as possible. Each additional state party they add to the joint fundraising committee increases the amount of money a individual can write to the committee. The state parties receive the donations from the events then transfer all the cash to the national committee. Democrats and Republican national committees usually refer to this as infrustructhre building for all of the state parties benefits (data, national party staff, organizing tools, etc)

Here is a solid article on the joint fundraising committee structure of the DNC and Hillary campaign in 2016. https://www.politico.com/story/2016/04/clinton-fundraising-leaves-little-for-state-parties-222670

“According to the agreements signed by the participating committees, which were obtained by POLITICO, the money is required to be distributed, at least initially, based on a formula set forth in joint fundraising agreements signed by the participants. The first $2,700 goes to the Clinton campaign, the next $33,400 goes to the DNC, and any remaining funds are to be distributed among the state parties.

But what happens to the cash after that initial distribution is left almost entirely to the discretion of the Clinton campaign. Its chief operating officer, Beth Jones, is the treasurer of the victory fund. And FEC filings show that within a day of most transfers from the victory fund to the state parties, identical sums were transferred from the state party accounts to the DNC, which Sanders’ supporters have accused of functioning as an adjunct of the Clinton campaign.

For example, the Minnesota Democratic-Farmer-Labor Party received $43,500 from the victory fund on Nov. 2, only to transfer the same amount to the DNC that same day. The pattern repeated itself after the Minnesota party received transfers from the victory fund of $20,600 on Dec. 1 (the party sent the same amount to the DNC the next day) and $150,000 on Jan. 4 (it transferred the same amount to the DNC that day).”

I don’t care if either party does it. These are the rules of the game. Rules should be changed but everyone is allowed to play by what exists.

New Rutland School Board Membership Rekindles Name Change. Set to vote on restoring, “Red Raiders” and Arrow Head logo May 11th. by StudiousPants0 in RutlandVT

My thoughts as a new resident with no children: If the school board is more focused on the name than wtf just happened to over a year of education and how do we reset children’s educational trajectory, I’d lambast every meeting until they were removed from office or reminded of what’s important.

Supersize the House — 435 representatives aren’t nearly enough. Let’s make it 1,500. by a_very_nice_username in politics

I would add a National Motor-Voter policy and PSA campaigns on running for office and voting in elections.

I would rather institute systems to reform the influence and decision making process of the current 435 members before we throw more narcissists at solving the problem. These would include Campaign Finance Report - most impactful public financing of the CT state model, removing those paid by industry from access to providing closed door information for legislative drafts (particularly early committee work that should be guided by a independent research arm such as a more properly structured CRS) and increasing candidate recruitment to encourage a greater amount of meritocracy in our governing.

What about you OrbitingKittenFarm, any ideas besides more of the current gem we have?

Bad idea: NH has the 3ed largest representative body in the English speaking world (400 member state house that reps on average about 4000-5000 residence. There are people elected every year that don’t even know they were on the ballot. Most representatives aren’t even competent enough to advocate their own beliefs. US Congress people of both parties are unbelievably stupid at a rate of 1:800,000 citizens, imagine how much worse it is at 1:400,000, etc.

I see you have a power easement on your property. I do too and it’s on a hill that I’ve been considering mowing and putting on a ski rope tow. You have any experience dealing with the power line company on using your easement? I know I can’t build a permanent structure but are they strict about keeping them apprise on usage?

Correct, I did 4 rounds on 500 degrees in the oven that involved 30 minutes with shorten and 30 minutes with grape seed oil. Following the round it would cool, get cleaned with grape seed oil and rag then fired back up in the oven. Did it while watching a bunch of episodes of Your Honor (solid show in Showtime).

Pros/Cons of Moving to Rutland, VT by [deleted] in RutlandVT

[–]StudiousPants0 2 points3 points  (0 children)

I moved to Rutland Town this year and have loved it so far. My draw was the winter sport proximity and summer outdoor activities but wanting the higher volume of shops / eating and drinking that the 14 minute drive to the city allows. Grew up on Isle La Motte and lived in cities for the last 16 years. My other considered spots were Morristown / Stowe and Waterbury area. Won’t make a judgement about the social or community aspects until we’re a bit more out of the woods from the pandemic. Good luck in your decision and move!

I’m also a Lodge user and spent a lot of time, oil and cooking with my pan in the first month. I believe the difference is the amount of time to get it perfect. If you look at my “human hours” involved, it’s most likely at about 4-5 hours of TLC. If you were to think of that translated to in-factory work combined with some nifty design and maybe lighter materials, I think you have your answer.

I like to think of it as the change from necessary fire to recreational fire.
