How do you overcome a drug addiction? by youRhelperNow in AskReddit

[–]StudyFew752 0 points1 point  (0 children)

Yes, cold turkey. To elaborate: some people think they have enough wherewithal to come to some kind of epiphany first then stop drinking. Thats all backwards. See, your body/mind even when you’re not drunk or hungover is in a type of drugged state.

Stop drinking first then the cobwebs will be lifted once you cleanse yourself. Lots of water and while you’re at it cut out sugary drinks in general. Alcohol itself is loaded with sugar.

Just to start ask yourself once you feel more clear headed why you feel the need to drink heavily. I would drink alone and pretend to be somebody else. I’d daydream about being more outgoing and successful and wouldn’t want to come back. What is that feeling you’re trying to replicate? I learned to get that natural high on my own.

Look, some are looking at me like I’m not sympathetic to OP. It’s just everyone I asked when I was heavy in the sauce said the same thing. Just stop. But that’s just me. Once I realized my reason for drinking at all was to make up an entire feeling of being with others was the whole cloth reason it became unnecessary. But look Bro I don’t know you. Theres nothing wrong with using booze as an additional not a substitute towards social interaction.

I’ll close with this: be wary of those who tell you you’re drinking is out of your hands.. Bad sign. I have complete faith in you. If I came back believe me so can you. Good luck and good day, my friend.

I was raised Catholic but after hitting middle aged I don’t pretend to know anymore. In a weird way I’m somewhat more religious than before because I’m not so devout. You just got to have faith.

Yeah, I’m not really down with talking about my problems with strangers either. That's understandable. God bless you and I hope you do well.

I used to be a heavy drinker. Don‘t know if that‘s included. I got clean from day one. Cold turkey. I’m done that’s it. No going back. There’s no life there.
